THURSDAY: Reliable Research and Infographics

Chae-Eun's Canvas Painting

Today, students worked hard on completing their infographics using Piktochart.com. Their projects will be submitted in class tomorrow and students will also present their research to the rest of the class. The learning intentions for this project were:
- I can distinguish the difference between reliable and unreliable information.
- I can display my reliable research in a clear and simple infographic.
The students spent two weeks refining their research and critical thinking skills. The infographic only took a few days to complete.

1.) MATH 6: Any assigned work.
MATH 7: 5.5 Textbook Questions, 5.6 worksheet, 5.6 Textbook questions

2.) SOCIAL STUDIES:

Research/Infographic Project is due tomorrow.
Email me if you have any questions or post them here.

3.) POST A RESPONSE:

As the term comes to an end, you have all been given things to improve on for term 3.
In paragraph form, explain what you have been asked to work on in term three.
Explain the steps you will take to accomplish these things.
Ask at least 2 students questions about their goals for term 3.
Reply to any questions you receive.

@ Tweety Bird - I would put both in each of your bottom corners. All you have to do is post your sources in a small font and nothing after the dot com. The main address is all you need for both sources.

@Mr. Hong, Could I make a separate part of my Infograph that shows my sources and what other parts of it? Because, I wouldn't have enough space to put it with the rest of my info or at the top. And I also want it to stick with my Infograph.

What are some stuff I will improve on next term? Will the first thing I am going to work on is my oral language and using more advanced words so I can get an A in langauge arts and the next thing I am goint to work on is putting more effort in fine arts to make my grade an A. You put an I in well and a t in going. I think you should put a period somewhere in the middle of your second sentence. You also need a comma in your last sentence in the first paragraph. In your last sentence you said "before I speak" and you said "before I say something".

Oh okay that makes sence. If you have time I will appreciatte it if you give me more feedback after I made some changes. What I did was I did the same reliablity check for each source however I can put 1 for the first reliablity check than 2 for the second info on and on. (if that makes sence). Thank you in advance.

I was asked to work on finishing my work in a timely manner and be more receptive to feedback. I was also asked to ask questions and contribute to class discussions. @Julio, I think what you could do to improve your goal on doing your homework on time is by double-checking what your homework was about and if you got it right. Because double checking is the key to seeing if you had followed the criteria or not. And if you failed, you can't get a good mark! But mainly, good job on your post! Also, you made a little typo mistake I think when you mentioned "To accomplish these thing" I think you mean't "To accomplish these things" or "To accomplish these goals"

I need to participate more in class discussions and always do my best.

The ways how I am going to accomplish these goals is, I will always ask questions and always remember to do my homework, study, and concentrate really hard on the tasks at hand and if something ii do looks good, don't stop until its great. Because we have to be there anyways so why not use that time to learn.

First not calling out in class I'll fix that by putting an elastic band around my hand and pull it and then let it go so it will hurt and remind me, second staying on topic at all times while a lesson I can fix that by putting a not on my desk saying remember not to go off topic or remind my self when I raise my hand and tell my self what the topic is third not get distracted with what's happening around me I can fix that problem by moving to another seat or desk.

What have I've been asked to work on term three? Well firstly, I was asked to be more vocal during class discussions, this means I should share my ideas and my thoughts when we are discussing or talking about something for the students to hear my great ideas and my thoughts. Above all, that was the only thing that I've have been ask to work on term three. What have you've been ask to work on term three?

How am I going to accomplish this? Well firstly, I am going to accomplish on being more vocal during class discussions by, being confident on sharing my ideas and thoughts, this means I won't worry if my idea, thought, or answer is wrong. Secondly, I will accomplish on being more vocal during class discussions by, not being nervous so I can be able to talk with confidence. In conclusion, that was what I've have been ask to do in term three, and how I will accomplish on being more vocal in class discussions.

My goals for the next term is to ask more questions in class, also pay more attention and be better at math, P.E science, L.A and socials. I want to participate more in class talks.

I can do this all by raising my hand more often get extra Homework
Stay after school more and stay in at recess and lunch and talk more.

This term I was asked to participate in class disscussions and share my ideas and opinions. I will do that by being more confident and taking risks even if I get something wrong. Another problem is that I'm too lazy to raise my hand so I should stop being lazy.

My goals for term 3 is to 1, Finish ALL my P.A.R's 2, to be more focused in math class and 3, to always finish my homework. I will do 1 and 3 by double checking that it is done and visiting the website at least 2 times a day. Also, I will have a parent or friend make sure that it is all completed. I will complete number 2 by making sure that there is nothing I can fiddle with and by asking Mr. Hong to move closer to the front. This is because sometimes its hard for me to focus, because I'm in the very back.

We have all been given things to improve on in term 3, i will be telling you mine. I have been asked to pay more attention to the given criteria and to do my best off of that. Along with that i have been asked to put more effort into my work to give the best I can do. I a have forgotten most things I have been told to work on at the moment, but I remember a couple of things I need to work on.

I need to get a better understanding of following the criteria and math. I need to pay attention in order to get what math equation to do and how to do it. I also have to read the Criteria sheet BEFORE starting the project. I need to listen and read better in a way so ya, that is what I could remember of things I need to work on. Feed Back Please!

What Mr. Hong told me to work on more is something very common that others got, and it was to participate, volunteer, or engage into others ideas and push their thinking. I think how I'm going to achieve this is by:

- Trying to get the teachers attention, because most of the time I raise my hand the teacher always picks another open hand that had shared its ideas already. This happens quite a bit. ---

- That too and to just share what I got, usually when I think to myself, I always give out the right ideas but never share them, and before I could even share them someone else already says it when I'm about to.

Those are my steps to achieving this goal. Just 2 simple steps, almost like walking up 2 steps of a small staircase, or easy as 123 as Michael Jackson would say it in the old times. What are you steps to achieve your goal?

@ Tacosaur - It appears you have forgotten what we spoke about during our one on one conference in class yesterday. Here is what we spoke about and what I asked you to complete in order to improve your research:

1.) Structure your work so it is clear to me which statistics you are going to use. Currently, you have so many listed that I am unsure of what your plans are for your infographic. For example, this is how you could do it:

- Statistic
- 2 reliable sources
-- Title of website
-- URL / Website address
-- Date last updated
-- Author / Publisher
- 3 unique reasons why your sources are reliable according to points learned on the C.R.A.A.P. test. You should use different reasons on each of your 3 statistics.

2.) When researching, I have suggested to you to not copy and paste your work from other websites. I do see that you have made some edits/revisions to your work. What has been suggested to you is to read the information on your researched sites and then write off the top of your head from what you learn. You should not be copying and pasting information and then simply changing some of the words. This is not the most efficient way to do research.

3.) In our discussion yesterday, we discussed that I could not actually give you any suggestions until you followed your criteria sheet and the instructions from class. It looks like you attempted to do this. I have added some comments to your research. It looks like you have some work to do. Please be sure to take all of the suggestions on your Google document and make the necessary edits/revisions.

In term three I was asked to work on the consistency of my P.A.R.'s. I will do this by working harder on my posts, and not just quickly typing something and submitting it. I will also edit/revise my posts to make them even better. The final thing that I will do to complete this is to completely follow the criteria. I will include as much information as I can to get the job done.

I need to work on trying more because sometimes I just don't really care very much so I just do the bare minimum. If I tried harder I will get better markes in school. Also I need to work on doing my post everyday. Sometimes I don't do it. To make sure I get the post done I will set an alarm on my phone so I know when to do my post.
