THURSDAY: THE UNITED NATIONS

Today, we again had a lively discussion in Social Studies in regards to the United Nations role in human rights. We also discussed some of the rules the United Nations has when working with each of its members. Many students contributed to the discussion and were very engaged in the topic. Following the discussion, students worked in groups to create rules that were related to the United Nations rules on how to work peacefully with all members.

2.) POST A RESPONSE:

Today, you worked in groups to create rules that you should follow when working in groups.
For homework, I'd like to you to create 3 rules that you feel we should have in class.
In addition to these rules, I want you to also include consequences for not following these rules.
Comment on 2 other student responses by asking them questions.
Reply to any comments/questions you receive.

I think these rules should be placed into effect:
1. I think we need more exercise time instead of sitting on our chairs all the time. Because we are sitting in out desks all the time not doing exercise. However I do agree that our studying matters a lot. However we need more time to exercise. The conequence varies on how much time we had for gym (or just exercise) that week however if it is quite small I think a good consequence is giving us extra gym time. (Sorry if this is not quite good, i had a better one but I deleted it by an accident :-( )

2. Bullying, name calling, etc. Can really harma person on the inside... but not on the outside, and I think it is mandatory for no one to feel this pain, even it is a best friend, relative (thats at the school) or anyone. So a class rule can simply be don't be mean. Just simple because I am sure grade 6/7 can no what I mean when I say that. As a qonsequence, this can really vary on the type of insult. it can range from going to the counseller, principal, vice principal. Or just giving them detention. But if it is ongoin then I think it should be more then just detention.

3. The next rule I think that should be taken into effect is no not considering idea(s). Because if we are all going to learn together I do not think it should be like someone just ignores another persons idea. I do not think whenever they someone says something in a group or class disscusion they have to bare wether or not it is good. At the beginning you said that sitting in chairs is not exercise, well who cares!? We need to learn more than we need to do physical activity. Although everyone would agree that extra exercise would be nice. P.E

1: To always focus and not fiddle or chat.
CONSEQUENCE: You will sit outside for a hour with nothing to do.
2: To always respect others and not be selfish.
CONSEQUENCE: You will be sent to the office to talk with principle.
3: To always eat all of your lunch or snack at recess or lunch.
CONSEQUENCE: You will have to eat your lunch you did not eat while it is rotted.

I think that your consequences for 1 and 3 are too big of a punishment because if you sit outside for an hour with nothing to do you would be missing out in learning. Also if you ate rotten food you will get sick and the teacher will get in trouble.

1. Shut all electronics off unless Mr.Hong says you can. The consequence for this is that you get your electronic took an away for the day.

2. No teasing, discluding, or being racist, to other classemates otherwise I think the consequence is going to the office.

3. No running, goofing around, and screaming/talking while in hallway or in class the consequence for this is getting a lecture from Mr.Hong.

1. I think that when we are doing group activities everyone's idea should be included. If someone is not including someone else's idea, I think they should get a little punishment.

2. Respecting Others is another very important rule. If someone not respecting others I think that they should get detention.

3. Bullying I think Bulling is a very important topic because Bullying can really harm someone for life. I think that the consequence be in extreme cases Principal, Couseller, social services.

1. I think that you should turn off all electronics during the day (especially wifi) because you don't need, so everyone should Keep their devices in there bag or else mr.hong takes it for the day.

2. Secondly I think that everyone should speak in a class descousions because it helped us learn so if we don't he should start randomly picking names from a sombrero.

3.no talking in class about random things not related to the topic or out of turn because you will learn better If you listen. for a consequence you should have to say what you were talking about or sing twinkletwinklelittlestar

Consequence: Stay in at recess.
2) Finish work on time.
Consequence: Finishing it at recess with extra work.
3) No goofing off.
Consequence: Going to the principles office.

Rule1: no teasing, bullying, pestering, buging, annoying, disriminating offending, stealing, messing, braking, or throwing anything or anyone.
Consicqense: from saying stop to consulting parents.
Rule2: do not talk during a lesson without raising your hand.
Consiquense: 1 warning then going into the hall.
Rule3: always follow these rules!
Consiquense: any or all of the above.

1. First rule I think should be to treat everyone, thats including kids teachers should be treated equally and fair. When I say equally and fairly I mean no racism, bullying, ect.

2. The second rule I think should be is all electronic devices should be turned of during class time.

3. All students should stay on task and stay focused.

If a student were to break one of these rules then they should first get a warning but if these rules were broken more then once then I suggest that their parents should be contacted.

RULES:
1.) Participate at least twice a day.
2.) Do not call out.
3.) No bullying or teasing.

CONSIQENSES:
1.) Get 2 marks off your report card each day you do not participate.
2.) Get 1 warning and than go out into the hall.
3.) Get suspended for 3 days.

RULES THAT WE SHOULD HAVE IN OUR CLASS:
1.) The number #1 rule we should have in our class is to not eat when we are learning. Why? Well firstly, it's distracting to others when someone opens a pack of chips while making a loud noise. Secondly, we should've ate breakfast in the morning so that we won't be hungry eating a whole lunch on our desks when we are learning. Research says, that some schools around the globe are not allowed having pop drinks like Pepsi. Lastly, we need this rule because sometimes our classmates eat unhealthy foods like candy, chips, warheads.....ect.

2.) Another, rule we should have is to make sure we are not texting or playing on our phones while learning a subject like math, and to make sure our phones are off. Why? Firstly, it's distracting to others when we hear sounds from our phones when we get a text or a notification. Secondly, if we're playing on our phones while the teacher is teaching we wouldn't know what is going on. Lastly, we should have this rule because sometimes when the teacher puts up something on the projector it will be really slow if our phones are on wifi.

3.) Above all, the last rule we should have in class is to not talk or move when the teacher is talking. Why? Firstly, it will be disrespectful if we just walk beside the teacher when he is talking. Classroom rules.

1.) No texting in class even if its your mom or dad.
2.) Pay attention to the teacher and not play with stuff like erasers.
3.) Don't call out unless Mr. Hong said it's ok.

Consequences.

1.) You get your phone or whatever you were using taken away and stay after school maybe an email to parents.
2.) Be moved from where you are sitting and go someone you don't want to move.
3.) If Mr. hong warns you 4 times you get to stay in for recesses and if more than 4 times you miss recesses, lunch, stay after school and a email to their parents.

First rule I think we should have is, more participation. Participating more does count as more marks to your grades, and the teacher wants to hear from you. They don't want to hear the same person over and over again claiming every answer to the question, they want to see some new hands fling up.

Second rule could be no littering. Some people wouldn't bother to throw out their own mess and decide to just leave it in the middle of nowhere when they think nobody would notice that. People could easily notice tissue paper in the sinks, fruit cups sitting in the floor, nasty squished potatoes or grapes that people might not like to eat, and other things.

The third rule we could possibly have is less shout outs. Some people don't really bother, are careless, or lazy to raise their hand. So what they'd do is call out. Why some teachers don't want this sort of thing going on is because other students don't really get the chance to speak. For example, if someone was speaking because they raised their hand and I were to call out, then I wouldn't be showing any respect to that person and that proves that I don't really care to listen about what that person is saying.

If these rules were to be broken 3 or more times, then:
Participation - Might just get the same marks as before which was probably a B+ or maybe an A- because you never really participated but you were just very smart.

Littering - Maybe need to have a little chit chat with their parents explaining why this classroom isn't their bedroom or home, its school property not home property. And also that's a very important lesson to learn when your growing up.

Calling Out - Somehow they have to stop, they might need to have a chat too with the teacher and maybe send them to Raise-Your-Hand school or a lesson they could learn to be more respectful.

1) One rule we should have in our class is to treat others with respect, including the teacher. We shouldn't be calling out whenever we want to or get up from our seat when the teacher is talking. We also should not be talking to our friends while the teacher is talking.

Consequence: We get 1 warning and if you are still not respecting others, you get to sit out in the hall.

2) Another rule we should have is to put some effort and contribute in class activities. We should be trying our best to solve a question or to share our thoughts. Don't just sit in your desk and do nothing. If you need help, you should ask someone if they could help you.

Consequence: Take some marks off of your report card.

3) Turn off your device (and wifi) and don't play with it while in class. You shouldn't be texting or playing games on your device unless it is recess or lunch. If you're using your device to search something up that is related to a class activity then that is fine but if you're using it to instagram or snapchat then that's not okay.

Consequence: Take away your device for the rest of the day. If you are still using your device, the teacher will have a talk with tour parents after school.

Rule # 1
There should be no arguing or fighting in class. So that means you have to respect each other and listen to the teacher. Don't distract others around you and no have conversations when your working. Only if it is about work

Rule # 2
Are class should participate more. So that means to ask questions. Like me I should participate more. You shouldn't be sitting not saying anything raise your hand ask a question.

Rule # 3
Make sure not to text or call anyone in the middle of class or else your device get taken away from the teacher. It distracts your learning. So you could just turn off your phone. Also if you have a device with you make sure to turn off the wifi. So the computers and ipads aren't slow.

1.) If you make a mess and do not clean it up you should clean the whole room up.
2.) if you are caught playing around on your device or with things in your desk you will have it taken away and you will go out in the hall with your work.
3.) In P.E or in other subjects if you stand up and yell "O o o Pick me pick me" or "I have my hand up!" then you will go sit outside.

Respect others at all times.

Consequence #1
Get sent outside until the teacher tells you to come back in.

Rule #2
Leave your devices turned off and put away until recess, lunch, or after school.

Consequence #2
Your device will be taken away until the end of the day.

Rule #3
Participate in all class discussions and work.

Consequence #3
You will lose participation marks in that subject.

1) We should respect others. When someone is speaking we should listen, not chattering with your friends. Also if you want to say something you should raise you hand.

Rule #1 Pay attention when people are talking. If people don't follow this they should probably get moved to some where they can listen or sit with the reach to prevent talking.

Rule #2 Focus on work at work time (don't waste your time). If people don't follow this they should get an extra worksheet for that subject maybe or stay in at recess/lunch or stay after school to Finnish what was assigned during work time.

Rule #3 work nice with others. If people don't follow this they should get put with a group of partner with someone they don't talk to much or don't get along with so much to make friends and be nice. (If it's a parter/group activity)

1.)Bullying or being mean to other students. Although a lot of schools say they have a no bully rule. A lot of the time it is not followed. I think if you bully someone you should be expelled. I know it seems harsh but bullying it serious and should not be taken lightly.
2.)Homework. I think if you don't do your homework you should not be punished at the time the teacher should just let it effect your grade. No staying in at lunch or recesse itjust goes on your report card.
3.) Raising your hand. I think it is very annoying when people don't raise their hand and share when they please. I think if you don't raise your hand and call out the teacher should not respond and the stundent should not be called apon for the rest of the day.

think three rules we should have in our class are no trending any one down for example if some one wants to join your group don't say no! My second rule is we should treat every one fairly for example if some one wants a pencil and you say I don't have one and if one of your friends ask you give one to them instead.My last rule that I think we should have is no texting in class because if we keep texting in class we lose our study marks.

Have talk with teacher or worse.
2. Do not yell or talk super loud.
Sit in hall for 5-10 minutes then talk with teacher.
3. Follow critera to the mark.

Rule one: treat everyone equally (in groups everyone has the same workload)
Rule two: respect others (no bullying, everyone should get a chance)
Rule three: everyone is to be included. (You cannot make people have to choose another group unless yours is full)
Rule one punishment: get lower marks if you gave someone an unfair workload or extra if you were given an unfair workload.
Rule two punishment: You have to do three to five laps depending on the severity of it.
Rule three punishment: you need to find a new group.
