Thursday: Learning from Feedback

Today, students began their day with basketball dribbling drills along with a game of 'FISH TANK - Sharks vs. Guppies'! In addition to this, they continued to work on their introduction paragraphs for their New Year's resolution essays, and they received feedback from Mr. Hong and Ms. Fei on how to make their thesis statements and plans (3 points) clearer. Students also completed a math test, and continued to work on their year of the snake art. It was a busy day of learning at Hillcrest Elementary school!

1.) MATH 6 / 7 - No homework.

2.) LA - All 7 different types of introductory paragraphs must be completed by tomorrow morning. Refer to your handout/booklet.

2.) WRITE A RESPONSE #1: Visit Sandy's photography blog on her E-Folio and give her some comments/feedback on her photography! Students from last year, be sure to comment on the composition of her photos!

3.) WRITE A RESPONSE #2: Watch this video and post one open-ended and one close-ended question related to what you see. Do your best to post questions that haven't been posted yet. GET CREATIVE! Remember, a close-ended question can be answered with one word, and an open-ended question needs an explanation for an answer.

1.)why did the mentos create an erupton in the coke?
2.)why did they use the pull the card method rather than just dumping them all in?
3.) why did they only use 13 mentos in the capsule?
4.) what would happen if there where less mentos in the test tube?
5.) could there be somthing in the mentos that made the coke and carbon dioxide or (c.0.2) erupt?
6.)over by the second test was there a reason why the coke on the right didn't get affected by the mentos as well as the one on the left?
7.)over by the second test station the first try on the coke by the right didn't get affected but why did the mentos affect it on the second try?
8.) did it just need more mentos?

well I have an answer for 7 and that is only because when he pulled the card I guess it pulled the test tube but in the video he said he missed. So yeah he only missed the bottle

Open question: If they used actual pepsi instead of diet pepsi would the eruption be stronger or weaker and why.

would this work with a diffrent type of pop like cream soda and would this work with other candy like gum or fuzzy peaches?

Why did the Mentos make the coke explode?
Why is the coke more sticky then diet coke?

Wow! I loved that video. I have always heard of this project how you use mints and soda to make an explosion, but I haven't actually seen one before.
Closed Question: Will there still be a reaction quite as good as this if we used a different mint?
Open Question: What actually caused the reaction? Why or how does this work?

*Extra Questions*
-Did Mr.Hong link this video as a hint that we will try this experiment out in class?
-In your opinion, what type of drink with the mints cause the most interesting reaction? Why?
-Who was this experiment originally created by?

~By the way, I wanted to say thanks for everyone who commented on my Photo Gallery. I really appreciate all the feedback I'm getting, even on pages that you didn't have to! I'll be sure to comment, and answer questions when I can because at the moment I am using my brother computer because there has been a wifi problem lately.. Anyways, thanks again!

It would be interesting to video tape erupting coke geysers and replay the video to compare how different number of mentos affect the height of the eruption =)

@ Judy - When you log in, you will see your site on the list of the sites you have created. You will see a 'STATS' button on the right. I just checked. You had 187 hits a few days ago. It's the power of social media! :)

@ Everyone - Here is a challenge! Let's see if anyone can figure out how to embed a google analytics code into their website to get some serious statistics on where your hits are coming from! It also gives you a ton of other information. I'll show you guys some of it tomorrow!

Open: What caused the Pepsi, root bear to make a huge explosion when they added the Mento's?
Closed: Are there any other things that you could put into the pop to cause the same reaction?
Open: Which one worked better (diet or regular) and why?
