Thursday: CHINESE NEW YEAR

2/7/2013

In social studies, students continued their discussion about human rights by looking into questions such as "What do human right have to do with you?", "Can young people talk to adults about human rights?", and "Is it true that human rights can help us get along with each other and live in peace?".

Some groups took the initiative to record their discussions and/or conduct their discussion in a talk show format.

1.) CHINESE NEW YEAR: The advertisers and promoters in New York City were so impressed with your artwork, they decided to plaster it all over the 'STREETS OF NEW YORK'! Send the link to your friends and family to see!

2.) MATH 6:

Then, post a response here explaining, in your own opinion, why you believe those specific rights are important to all humankind. Do not post comments on videos that your classmates have already commented on. Read the entire conversation stream before posting.
Don't forget to write in full and complete sentences. If someone is reading your response, they should be able to figure out what the question was.

Right #13: The Freedom to Move
It is important to have the freedom to move because if you couldn't move from place to place and find a safer place to live when you need to you would be in trouble. Sometimes there are fires or earthquakes that happen, and when they do you need to be able to move somewhere.

Right #8: The Freedom to be Protected by Law
It is important to have the freedom to be protected by law because if something happened like someone hurt you in the street then you should be able to tell the police about it and have that person go to court.

Right #2: The Freedom to not be Discriminated against
It is important to have the freedom to not be discriminated against
because we all should be able to live and get a job and play games and do our everyday things without having our differences get in the way.

It is important to have the right to be born free and equal because we all should be able to live and get a job and play games and do our everyday things without having our differences get in the way.

It is important to have the freedom of living freely because it would be really sad if you aren't allowed to do what everyone else is allowed to do.

Protected by Law: What I think about the right of protection is that this is ignored in almost all countries filled with child labour and slavery. It appears that not many people understand and know their rights in many places.

Fair and Free World: A fair and free world is also what I see but don't you see this cannot be done so easily. Triumphs and fails are happening this for the greater good, what are you going to do so that Human Rights can be understood?

No torture: This happend in the past so often but know I believe that this has gotten even worse.

No slavery: This right is ignored in a lot of countries, since the 1800's the amount of slavery has doubled, but not in Canada
You have human rights no matter where you go: This right is ignored aswell in those same countries, people are slaved, tortured, and have many other human rights taken from them.
Copyright: This right is ignored because people are pirating music, movies, etc, and people are being ripped off.

Right to play: I think the right to play is very important because everyone should be aloud to play so they can do something else other than work all there lives. Also, I think kids should be able to play if they are bored no kid wants to sit and play with their thumbs till the next day that is not fun. Lastly, everyone has the right to limited work hours to we can relax and do something fun.

Freedom of thought: I think everyone should be able to think about anything they want because it is there mind and it is not like they are doing every single thing that they think of in their own minds in public. Everyone should be able to have their own image of god or any other thing that they think of or worship.

Freedom to move: I think every one should have the freedom to move because people should be able to explore the world to see what beautiful things that the world has to offer. Everyone should be able to explore the different countries and see the different cultures that live there and have the freedom to leave the country if he or she does not like it. Everyone should be able to move around the world because we all made it to what it is today.

Rights to a nationality: I think freedom to nationality is important because some people usually feel embarrassed of their nationality because they feel that they will be made fun of so if they knew this right it would probably make them feel better.

Right to education: Freedom of education is important because education guarantees you a good life in the future and a good job. Good education keeps kids away from bad stuff like gangs and drugs.

Innocent until proven guilty: This is important because most people if they are missing something they would blame the person they think they did it even if they don't have proof and I think that it bad.

Freedom to move.

I think that this is important to human kind because what would it be like if you were stuck at home? so that is why you need freedom to move so you can be social with others and not be caged in at your own house.

Food and shelter for all.

It would be really good if there was food and shelter for everyone then there would be not a lot of people dead over time, and also there would be no homeless people asking for money and food but one thing there would be a lot of is people living with other people.

Right to privacy

If there was no privacy what so ever then people would just like don't even care and start changing in public and also there would be no privacy for the people in the bathrooms just like in changing rooms there would be a wall separating girls and boys if there was no privacy they would just take down the wall.

HUMAN RIGHTS I think that human rights are important to every living thing for many reasons. First of all because god put us on earth for a reason and im pretty sure the reason is not to be held as a slave, child labour, and more. Human rights are with where ever you are no metter where you go.

ALL TREATED THE SAME: We all have to be treated the same are should be beacuse why shouldnt we treat people the way they want to be treated. We should it doesnt matter what skin colour you are, how you look or any of that stuff everyone in this world should be treated equally.

1.) WE ARE ALL BORN, FREE AND EQUAL.
No one, is better than anyone else. The prime minister, the police, everybody, we are all equal. You can't say " I am better than you. " Because that is not true, we have human rights. Human right # 1, we are all born free and equal. I think this right is very important because it shows that we can do whatever we want and be treated the same.

2.) WE ARE ALWAYS INNOCENT TILL PROVEN GUILTY.
Human right # 11 you can't just accuse someone of stealing something when you have no proof. This is very important, because some people will be racist and just accuse you of doing something bad just because of your race or your religion. For example, in court, somebody is saying that you stole their wallet. Just because they belong in a different group. That doesn't mean that the person is bad.

3.) NO ONE CAN TAKE AWAY YOUR HUMAN RIGHTS.
Human right # 30 You have 30 human rights, you don't ask for them, you don't apply for them, you just have them because you a human. Nobody can take that away from you. That is why I think this is one the most important rights. Because nobody can say " Since you stole something I am taking away your human rights. " No, because the human rights are yours. No one can borrow it, no one can take it, they are yours forever.

In the beginning it asked you if you could tell which child wasn't born free, then they said can you tell which one was treated with dignity. In my point of view I think they were trying to tell us that it may not look like they didn't have freedom or dignity but they could.

There was a girl and a boy fighting because the girl thought that he boy stole her phone and she wasn't being very nice then at the end of the video someone said that they found the girls phone in the bathroom

1) Free and Equal - I think that this right is important because it can help people not look at the other person poorly, like a rich man looking at a really poor man and being mean to him. If you have equalness, it won't happen often. So overall, I think this rule is good.
2) Don't discriminate - Not discriminating is important because it will not make the other person feel bad, and also you might get the same effect by another person. I think you should have this right, for sure.

1.) No torture: Watching this video and seeing kids suffer was enough. I think that we have to group up and stop this labour. The kids looked so sad and worried, I wish no one will be affected like that.
2.) Universal Rights: It was very cool of the UN to help that young guy not get killed. He knew that he had rights, but the torturers were too mean. If the UN did not come, he would have died.
3.) Right to education: When they went to that big school, the girl was very surprised and happy, but when her other friend asked her how many schools that she had in her village, she told her that she had none, then that ruined the feeling. Everyone should have their own education and the right to.

1.) Freedom of expression - I believe that having the freedom to express yourself is very important. Everyone deserves to say what they truly feel in any way, shape, or form. No one should ever be silent and every opinion should be heard.
2.) Right to privacy - I think every human being should have this right no matter what. It's pretty self explanitory why I think this. I think this right should be more focused on celebrities. Different celebrities feel like their privacy is taken away from them. They are people just like you and me, and to be honest, I don't think that would be fair to them. Photos are taken without them knowing and it could be published on every magazine. Personally, I think that this is one of the most important rights. Not that I think just celebrities have this right, everyones equally important to this. Without the right to privacy many things could happen. For example, anyone can take your camera or laptop and go through your pictures. Anyone can friend you on Facebook even though you don't know them! I think we are very lucky to have the right to privacy.
3.) The right to public assembly - I think this is a very important right. Everyone should have an opinion, and they are allowed to get it out there. If you believe in something enough you have the right to form a peacful assembly. Your opinions and beliefs will be heard, even though some may dissagree with them. You have the power to change something that you may not think is right. You are allowed to protest, make a petition, etc. For example, if you don't believe that making the Enbridge Northern Gateway pipelines is right, you have the right to protest and speak your mind and no one is allowed to tell you otherwise.
It's great to have human rights!

4.)Right to eduacation - I think that it is important to have education. Although, I know that many places don't have schools to teach children and adults. Why do I think it's important to have eduacation? Well, it's because having proper education will make your whole life easier and better. You can qualify for many jobs that have really good pay. However, think about what it would be like without eduacation. We would be struggling our entire life to live. We would have to work SO hard for little pay almost everyday. Our lives would be sad, and each day would just be worse. That is the importance of having proper edacation. If only everyone had followed this human right.
5.) No one can take away your human rights - This is the MOST important right in my opinion. It is gaurenteed to everyone even though some people don't know them or "Pretend they don't exist." we still have them. The fact that we have all these rights and freedoms is great, but knowing that they can never be taken away is even better.
6.) Right to nationality - When I think this, I think no descrimination. There are many people who don't respect others nationality, but their opions don't matter (Or their stereotypes). As long as we have this important right for our nationality.

Social security: Social security is important because, just like they said in the video "we all need help" whether its because your hurt, or elderly, we should all be able to help each other.

Freedom of expression: We need the freedom of expression so that we can have a hobby or a way to BE YOURSELF! It doesn't matter if it's dancing, singing, or playing an instrument, as long as you like it and can express yourself with it.

Freedom of thought: The freedom to thought Is so that you can have your own opinion and think what you wana think about. You should not be put down for what you thin about something.

I think this right means that everyone has the right to stand up for what they believe. They have the right to protest for what they believe.
#18-Right to ownership:I think this right means you have the right to be able to own your own stuff. This is important because it means that everyone is alowed to own there own stuff without others stealing or taking it.

Freedom #12 - Right to Privacy
In my opinion, I think that this right is just as important just like the other twenty nine rights. No one should be able to invade your privacy no matter who you are. In the video, a girl didn't have her privacy with a note. But in life their are other situations where people could invade your privacy, such as, your home, family, or even yourself. Therefor, no one has the right to invade your privacy.

Right #7 - We are all equal before the law
I think that no matter who you are, where you live, what you believe in, what your skin colour is, you should be treated just like everyone else. If you immigrate from another country, no one has the right to to treat you unfairly.

Right #13 - Freedom to move
Everyone has the right to move from their own country or own to their country. This also includes to if you want to move to another house, you have the freedom to do that.

Everyone has the right to have proper food and shelter. It's not right for people to starve or live on a dirty floor, when they never did anything wrong to deserve that. People should be able to have a healthy life. If you happen to get very ill, you would need to be able to cure yourself. Question: Why do you think it is important to have the freedom to move?
Comment: I think your writing is great, but maybe try to organize it in the same order. Meaning, the first paragraph to the last should look the same. Also, you have a few minor spelling errors like "Therefore". You also repeated some information in the last paragraph.
Suggestion: Try to clarify importance more, because it sounds a little bit like your explaining what the right or freedom is. Rather than mainly the importance.

This is important because everyone should be getting paid to work. It's a delicate topic because no one should be treated poorly, like being hit or whipped.

#11 We're Always Innocent Till Proven Guilty
You can't radomly convict people for things they may not have done. There needs to be real proof that a crime has been comitted. It makes people feel unhappy to be wrongly accused of something they didn't do.

Copyrighting could happen in other ways other than just videos. I feel its unsafe to copyright because you could go to jail, and have to pay a large fine.

Right to privacy: I think this means to not embarrass people like in the video, we should not "annoy" people when they want to be left alone. If someone tells you they want to be alone let them be alon

No Discrimination: Don't judge people from what they look like, how they talk, what their nationality is, their height or weight. It is unfair to treat people differently because they were born like that. Just because someone is from a different country, it doesn't mean you have to ignore them or make fun of them, you don't have to tease people because they have a disability....How would you feel if someone did the same to you?

Responsibility:
Everyone has there own responsibilities. Everyone should have the right to have responsibilities it is a part of life it is important because without responsibilities no one would have a job and anyone would just do what ever they want. As you grow up you gain responsibilities which is getting you to be responsible enough to become an adult.

Right to Life:
Everyone should have the right to live because everyone should have the opportunity to live freely and see what life is about and everyone should be able to experience what life is and have a family and so on.

Your Human Rights are Protected by law:
Everyone has human rights and no one can take them away from you because your human rights are protected by the law and if you do not obey the law you will get thrown in jail and jail is something you do not want to be in.

No unfair detainment:
I think that this right is important because you can't just go and lock a person up for no reason. That I think is a good human right because people can die if people do not respect the law. (Which is the human right).

No slavery:
Kids all around the world are being forced to work for little or no pay. Most slavery are kids being forced to work in sweat shops and nothing good can pretty much happen from slavery.

No torture:
There should be no tirture because its kinda like bullying but in a different way. For example a kid was walking home from school and a person asked for his money and he said no so he got punched in the face a bunch of times.

Right to trial: I believe that this right is important because from the video from the website you gave us, the judge didn't even bother to listen to both sides of the story and he just said guilty so if the people didn't know their rights then they would have just gone with it and not bother to at least argue back.

Freedom to move: I think this right is important people need to be able to move where ever they want when ever they want without being stopped like in North Korea we were told that people are not allowed to leave the country.

Workers rights: I think that this right is important because people work hard to earn their living and if they are being cheated out of their money it's very unfair for them especially for those who work for many hours everyday under the hot sun.

Marriage and family: This right is so people can't tell you who to marry and when you will marry them. This right is important because then you can choose who where and when you will marry the person.
Worker right: This right is important because people are paid less then they are entitled to and the can not be forced to work for someone but can apply for jobs
Right to nationality: This right is important because people from different countries are being slaved or tortured because they are a different nationality.

Don't discriminate: if this worked then there would be no teasing if your black, gay, short, ect.
Copyright: if there where no copy right then there would be no illeagl copying or sharing
Privacy: there would be no teasing or mean sharing.

right to privacy
Everybody deserves the right to privacy because if nobody has privacy other people can look at what they are doing. For example if I went on facebook and i made it so everybody could see my account and I put my address down a creeper could come and stalk me.
right to play
everybody deserves a right to play because it is what keeps us healthy and active. also without play there wouldnt be any sports, or Olympics. with out play it would be a very boring world.
no torture
If everybody could torture people it would be a extremely unsafe world and tons of people would be dieng or hurt because of people being very violent to others.
