Today, the students participated in their first lab experiment. They prepared slides of onion cells and recorded their observations. They were able to observe parts of the plant cell that they had already learned about. They included things such as colour, shape, texture, scent, etc in their observations. Most students noticed they were able to see the cell membrane and cell wall. If you want to relive today's Science lab, click here.

1.) MATH 6: Any assigned work.
MATH 7: Pg. 84-85 #1, 3, 4, and 8.

2.) SCIENCE:

If you are able to, start your project and if you complete it, bring it to class tomorrow.
The official due date is Tuesday.

Today during the onion cell lab I really enjoyed testing what would happen if we put different things on the onion cell, like dye and water. I didn't enjoy having to take notes, nobody really does, but it just seemed kind of boring. I learned what an onion cell looks like as well as that water makes things a bit clearer. I learned from the video that the little dot was the nucleas. I didn't realize that before. I hope we get to do more labs like this one!

I Found it okay because it was not super exciting not fall asleep on your desk boring 2 it looks like they were using A much higher power microscope.

Checking onion cells under a microscope wasn't VERY fun, it was cool but I didn't like that we had to fill out a sheet about what we saw. I learned that onion cells look like scaled grey metal and I haven't seen the video yet so I am going to do another post afterwards.

I actually couldn't see the nucleus in my microscope but the video showed that.

i have a major problem on my hands i dont have any material besides paper to use and if i were to try and get something to use besides paper it will take up to monday before my parrents can get enough money to get anything. and if i dont get these things on monday or before sunday i will not be able to complete this on time. and untill then i cant find anything to use so im not so sure if i can do this on time.

1.) The thing I enjoyed most about the onion scale is it looks totally different close-up.
2.) The thing I didn't really liked of the look of it. It looks like snake skin that got wet. It grosses me out a bit.
3.) The thing I learned about that the onion scale has bubbles close-up. Like if you don't use the microscope you don't see any bubbles. That's the coolest thing ever. I am really enjoyng science. :)

I really enjoyed looking at the onion cell with the dyes on it because it made the cell more clear and it looked more zoomed up. When you looked through the microscope you could see that there were many different sizes bubbles and they all looked really cool and transparent.

I enjoyed because I can see onion scales, and it looks different than see without microscope. It was little boring when I was doing the sheet, but it was fun. I learned that onion scale has many stripes and it looks like snake skin. Also it was different, when we see without microscope.

Probably when we saw the onion cells because the format of how it looked was like scales that were in bubbles, then when you added the water it totally changed into a different color to others and water bubbles started to float around the scales.

Actually, I enjoyed everything not disliked it at all. It was awesome saucesome.

One thing I never saw from the microscope or never noticed was the nucleus. I better get myself some glasses.

I really enjoyed looking at the onion cell but I would have liked it to be a little bit more independent and go through the steps quicker because it got extremely boring.
Under the microscope the onion looked like broken pieces of glass or a chain link fence. I learned that things look so much different under a microscope then they do the naked eye. I also learnt how to zoom in and focus on a microscope.

I really enjoyed looking at the onion cell, I noticed it looked a lot like a lizard or a snake's scales but with a silver and white tinge to it. Although I did not seem to enjoy that we could not see the cell blue. After we put on the plastic cover slip, it moved the blue around and you could see no blue. I noticed in the video that the cell had organlles that we could not see with our microspes. And the video's onion cell was a lot more detailed and clear point of view.

I did not like this onion thing because after that our classroom stunk like onions and the people that ate some onion had terrible onion breathe. I was almost about to puke!
