ELEMENTS OF ART - COLOUR

Today, the students learned about the elements of art and principles of design. We focused on colour. The students learned about primary, secondary, and tertiary colours. We reviewed a slideshow in class. Here is another one I found that you may find useful to review what you learned. Parents, take time to ask your children about what they learned today to reinforce what is being taught in class. We will continue learning about the different elements and principles of art and design over the next term. Click here to learn more about colour!

1.) MATH:

Complete #6-7 if you didn't complete these in class on pg 143.
Unit test on Fractions / Decimals on Friday.

2.) WORD WORK:

Complete word work based on the criteria handed out in class on Monday. This is due on Friday.
Vocabulary quiz on Friday using the new setup.

3.) POST A RESPONSE:

Complete your post a response based on our discussion before dismissal today.
Use the powerful response criteria handout to complete your paragraph. Follow it closely so you can do well on your assessment. This will be uploaded to FreshGrade tomorrow after you go through the self/peer/teacher feedback process.
Your job today is to write a 'POWERFUL RESPONSE' to the poem you completed in class. The criteria asks you to write about the big idea of the poem. Follow the criteria closely.
You will write a powerful response based on the 'BORN TO STAND OUT' poem activity you completed in class on Monday. You all took this home with you today. You will use your visible thinking for the content of your writing if you need.
Do not complete the self/peer assessment handout given to you today. This will be worked on in class tomorrow.
Use proper paragraph structure (intro, supporting sentences, and conclusion).
Give one person feedback based on the criteria points. If someone didn't include something, let them know exactly what they didn't include.
Edit/revise your original response.

You shouldn't discriminate yourself in any way, everyone has their own characteristics and it makes them a new and special person. Many people want to fit in with others that are different from them, making them not as a unique person they were before. You could change into being the person you didn't want to be or harm yourself in any way. No one can be the same, they can't be the exact same person as the other, they'll always stay different. ~Provide evidence from the text. Add something like 'indicated' or 'supported by the last stanza'
~You should put your introduction sentence and conclusion sentence with the rest of your paragraph, unless you want to write an essay.

‘Let go of who you think you need to be and just be who you actually are’. So many different quotes, so many answers and so many problems. Quotes like this remind me of a poem we read in class called ‘Born To Stand Out’ by Breanna Myles. Everyone has his/her own characteristics and this makes them special and unique so why try to fit in? Many people want to fit in with others because they want to belong in their social group. There could be consequences but you should know that you're changing into being another person on the outside but in the inside you're still the same. No one can be the same, because we're all made differently. Everyone was born to stand out in different ways whenever wherever. You shouldn't bully people just because you want them to act like you or be like you. It won't change. They'll still be them and you can't change that. Be the person you were born to be because people notice you for who you are and not the non genuine you.
Before I moved to Laurier I thought the students wouldn't like me, I did have friends here but I was afraid that the other students wouldn’t become my friends. Everyone seemed to be so close to each other already and I only had one to two friends in the class. In the poem it says 'Afraid to be different' and 'What if no one likes me'. I thought about those 2 phrases and wondered if I would have to change to make new friends. I found out I was wrong, they became my friends because I was being myself. Like what you should be doing, being yourself.
Overall I really liked this poem, it reminded me of August from 'Wonder' because since his face was different from the others he still tried to fit in but he got used to it and didn't wear his helmet anymore. I think that this poem should be spread around the world because everyone can relate to it and it has a deep meaning behind it. Finally, you should love yourself; you might have your ups and downs but you're still you. Keep being yourself, don't change yourself and be happy for who you are.

Lost In the crowd. There is more than one thing this could mean- separated from your group in a busy store, trying and failing to find your way to a coffee shop, but it can also mean something completely different. Trying to fit in and do what everyone else is doing. Wearing or putting on things that- although you may not admit it- just aren't you. Trying to be "cool". This will only make you feel worse about yourself, fall deeper into that pit, that trap that is modern "fashion" and social media. It's all a lie. You may feel outcast or awkward about who you are, but hey, if you could see into people's thoughts, you would know that that's how everyone feels, and really is what makes you the most like everyone else. The best way to feel happy and confident with you is to Be you, and truly be you. Then everyone will see what it means to truly be free, and learn to follow in your footsteps and start appreciating everyone for their differences.He who has overcome his fears will truly be free.- Aristotle, 384 BC- 322 BC. S that is why we need to overcome this strange fear of who we are, and begin living life to the fullest- not by hiding behind a twisted modern view of beauty, but by learning that true beauty is on the inside.

Why "fit in" when you were Born To Stand Out!?
Everyone is Born to stand out anywhere and anytime. So tell me... What is the big idea of the poem anyways? When I read this poem I knew it was telling us to "Always be yourself and never be afraid to be yourself. Everyone is unique in different ways." That's what the poem told me when I read it a few times.
But still why "fit in" when you were Born To Stand Out?

But when my brother is weird in public I feel sort of embarrassed because he's so loud! Everyone stares at me only me!!! I think he was trying to fit in but in a really weird way. This singer Michael Jackson had to fit in to the public by wearing a motorcycle helmet so no one would recognize him and crowd him.
I learned that everyone has to be themselves all the time and everyone could fit in.

This is totally like Wonder even though I only watched the trailer to the movie and not anything else, but it's pretty obvious it's about," You were born to stand out." They should totally make that a meme or a quote or a saying or something like that.
But basically this poem is about this person who goes like,"Oh no, I can't blend in; I just want to blend in!"
Then she goes like," Oh yeah, I just read/watched Wonder and I'm TOTALLY born to stand out."
Then she's like,"Oh, Never mind"
Then she's like,"Yes, I am"
Then she's like,"Oh, Never mind"
Then she's finally like,"Yes, I am"
And she just goes to school with makeup and good clothes and everybody's just like, "Oh ma Gowd, she's an angel!!!!!!!" Like that line in the last paragraph, "It's time to breakaway" if that had anything to do with angels.

I'm finally done, now I have to do this ALL over again. Once, I actually thought about being a writer when I grow up, now I'm like, never!!!!!

This poem is basically exactly like this book and movie called Wonder. I only watched the trailer to it and I know all about it. Like what the heck they should say spoiler alert in front of all trailers unless they already do and I didn’t notice (If that’s actually the case I’m not lying I actually didn’t notice). It’s about this ugly boy who cries a lot (no offense, it’s true). His mom (probably a therapist) is always giving him inspirational speeches while the boy cries,” You were born to stand out, Henry or whatever.” I wish I’m that good at cheering people up. All I do is say things that are true, then I get in trouble. So annoying, I’m getting tired of getting in trouble like that. But they should totally make that a meme or a quote or a saying or something like that. I feel like this kid in the poem already made it a meme and she’s famous, that’s why there’s that line saying,” The media frames us” Who knows, anything could happen. What if you die right now. What if you are actually a god and your life sucks. What if this poem is telling the future and a year later there’ll be,” You were born to stand out” merchandise. I know, I was preparing all that just to tell you that. I’m so good at convincing people. I bet you’re nodding head saying,” Yeah totally, that will totally happen.” *Andrew bows* Mmmmhmmm I’m so good.
But yeah, this is totally like Wonder. The,” You were born to stand out”, the bullying, the crying. Well, not exactly the bullying and crying but I’m guessing this person in the poem does because I would probably bully this whiny kid. She sounds so whiny, the,” Why don’t they get it, I just want to be me!?!?!?!?!?” It just sounds so “Ughh”. I just want to and kick her in the groin. Then she realizes that no, she wasn’t she wasn’t born to blend in, she was born to stand out! Finally, took you long enough, whiny kid. But she keeps on questioning herself,
“What if blah blah blah”
“What if blah blah blah”

Some of us don't think we are good enough for how society see us. That's why we behave in ways we wouldn't normally, dress in things we don't want to and push ourselves into doing things we don't want to do. The poem 'Born to stand out,' explains how the media (and people) make these rules that say 'you must be thin' or 'you have to wear this type of clothing to be popular.' The poem also shows some feelings that someone might have when they want to fit into these rules. The more they try to push themselves, the more they are 'losing' them self. From what I know, the best way to be happy is to just accept the way you are.

Some of us don’t think we are good enough for how society see us. That’s why we behave in ways we wouldn’t normally, dress in clothes that we don’t want to and push ourselves into doing things that might not be very friendly. A few days ago, we read a poem called ‘Born to stand out.’ The poem’s main message is pretty simple, just be yourself. If you don’t then you will start to ‘lose yourself.’ In the poem’s 5th paragraph, it says ‘what if nobody likes the real me.’ I can relate to that. When I go to a new school, I always think ‘oh the kids there wouldn’t like me because I’m new’ or ‘will I make any friends?’ The main reason I think that is because I have no idea what the kids are like in the new school. To be honest here, I really liked this poem. Although this topic of fitting in has been covered before, this is one I could really connect to.

Have you ever thought about how you could fit into a group at school? Well you shouldn’t because you were born to stand out! A few days ago, we read a poem called “Born To Stand Out.” The poem’s big idea is pretty simple, just be yourself. If you don’t then you will lose yourself. In the poem’s 5th paragraph, it says ‘what if nobody likes the real me?’ I can relate to that. When I was younger, I transferred to a new school, I would usually copy everything that the other people were doing because I had no friends and I thought nobody would like me because I was the new kid. But to my surprise I made really good friends that I still keep in touch today. Over being you is good. So don’t change that. Just accept the way you are.

Cut! Cut! Cut! This is not right! This should be a serious topic, not exciting and entertaining.
Okay enough with the jokes. So lets begin. Fitting in can be a hard thing especially when you were born to stand out. Personally I think everyone is born to stand out, some people will just blend in well with people because they are more comfortable around people and some aren't. At some point in your life you will feel that you don't fit in, but don't put yourself down because of that. You could turn that into a new learning experience or even make some new friends. People like you for who you are and being yourself is important you get to spend time with your family and friends. Remember this the real you is the best you. The poem reminds me of the movie and book wonder. In the movie and book there is a kid named August who had some sort of disorder. He does not think he fits in because of his face, so he would always want to wear a helmet of some sort of mask. He eventually got used to not wearing a helmet and just going to school without it because he knew he was born to stand out. Have you ever tried to fit in? I know I have! Actually now that I think of it I don't really try and fit in. When I go to someone's house and there are new people I have not met, I would try and not talk to them because talking to new people is kind of awkward to me. Especially if they are adults. Even if I know the adult I still find it hard/awkward to talk to them. I think it is because I just don't know what to say or what words to use.

Why don’t I fit in? Do my friends not like me? Am I ugly? Did I do something wrong? These questions may be some that you might ask yourself when you think you don’t fit in.
Fitting in can be hard especially when you were born to stand out. Personally I think people are all born to stand out, some people are just more comfortable around people and some aren’t. At some point in everyone’s life they might think they don’t fit in. Maybe because they think they aren’t ‘pretty’ enough or think people won’t like them for who they are but that’s not a reason why you should put yourself down. Dont worry too much about what people think about you because if they are your true friend they will like you for who you are. Hmm, what could this possibly mean. ‘The media frames us saying what we should be but why don’t they get it I just want to be me’. I think this could mean that the internet saids that a ‘pretty’ person should be perfect. For example, the internet might say that a ‘pretty’ person has perfect teeth or a perfect smile. I think there wrong because being pretty could mean a different thing to everyone. There is one part of the poem that I don’t get. ‘It’s time to breakaway that’s what life is about so let go of your fears you we’re born to stand out’. This could mean anything! It could be saying how you should breakaway form your friends who don’t like you for who you are because that’s what life is about, it’s about making new friends and loving yourself for who you are. The part about letting go of you fears could mean that you should not be afraid of showing the real you or it could mean that you should not be afraid of breaking away from your old friends. This poem reminds of the book wonder. In wonder there is a boy named August, he has a disorder with his face. When people see him they say they are afraid of him. When people said that he was insecure about his face so he would always want to wear a helmet to school. Eventually he knew that people at school like him for who he was even though he was born to stand out. Hmm, have you ever tried to fit in? When I was little I would always try to fit in and it would work but as I grown up I don’t really like to talk to new people, especially adults. Even if I know the adult I would find it hard or awkward to talk to them. I think it is just that I feel nervous around adults. My brain might just shut down around adults because I might think I am in trouble. This might be a new goal I should have.
Well overall I think that people will like you more if you were yourself. Being someone that you aren’t could really change your image. Just because someone said you were ugly or something it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be yourself!

I just wanted to fit in. From the hair, clothes, and shoes, to the accessories, and even personality. I saw them 'strut the halls' everyday, together, and the only thing I ever wanted was to walk with them. Looking back, it seems pretty silly, because I fit in better as myself, and I had my own friends (this was at my old school). Everyone is insecure about themselves in some way, but some just don't show it as much. We view most people as "perfect", and we don't know that everyone has their scars. This poem is definitely about the fact that everyone is different, and the media often set standards, by showing us very talented/pretty people. We should all be happy with who we are, and stop listening to the hate that people shed. The part in the poem "Trying to be everyone else / But at the same time / I am losing myself" I can really relate to, because all I ever wanted to do was fit in, but I didn't even know what I liked anymore, because I had followed everyone else's opinion so many times. I have learned from that.

Try to include spacing for each separate paragraph. (Intro, body, concluding) That could make It easier to read. Also, you should Include an concluding sentence to sum everything up.

I Just Wanted to Fit in. From the hair, clothes, and shoes, to the accessories, and even personalities. I guess I just thought that being "popular" was a necessity. Although I didn't realize it back then, I fit in better as myself, and I had plenty friends of my own. ( This was at my old school).

Everyone is insecure about themselves in some way, but some just don't show it as much. We view most people as 'perfect', and we really don't realize that everyone has their flaws. This poem is definetly about the fact that everyone is different, and the media often set standards. The media shows us very pretty, and talented people, forcing us to compare ourselves to those people, and showing all of our scars, whilst using photoshop and other sly techniques to hide other peoples' scars. As a famous Chinese proverb once said: "A diamond with a flaw is worth more than a pebble without imperfections" I think that is so true, and beauty really comes from the inside. It doesn't matter how many flaws you have, just be kind, and don't judge yourself!

Overall, we should all just be happy with who we are, and stop listening to the hate people shed. We all do. We strive to fit in, each and every day. We change ourselves just to be “popular”, and are willing to do so many things, just to be “perfect”. I air-quote these words, because they simply do not exist. They are just used by TV shows, magazines and other advertising/acting companies to help sugar-coat everything.

I think the big idea of this poem is try to be yourself ,you don't have to think how people think about you ,maybe you think people don't like you or even saying something bad to you ,but one thing you are born to stand out. You should be yourself ,don't because of someone and to change the other you , you might actually feel uncomfortable cause this is not the real you,so be yourself.

I said that I did not tell any lies,and that he really was a black freak. You probably had a tough moment in your life where you thought you were different and don't "fit" in with the rest. But I'm here to brighten your day by telling you what my definition of the meaningful poem known as "Born to Stand Out" is. In my personal opinion, I consider this poem represents how we're all different and how it's a great thing. We're all different in a way or another, and we should express our true selves; this makes us all special in a way. There are many lines in the poem that display evidence to my thoughts. For instance "So let go of your fear, you're born to be wild." And If you're still not convinced, then I'll throw another one in: "I just want to be me." I also feel like the media controls us in a way. The media portrays us as a perfect being of some sort. Since it's the new generation, there's a lot of tools that go on and out. For example, take Adobe Photoshop. Most celebrities (if not all) utilize editing tools to erase their facial flaws. There's often some sort of rule of looking good in media. Take, for example, advertisements. When you look at an advertisement, they often use models to make it look like that their product will make you look way better. But in reality, when you buy the product, it doesn't make you look good or look as good in the photo. This is why I feel like the media potrais us in a way. It's not what matters on the outside, it's what matters on the inside.

Now it's the opportunity for me to share my connections! Although I only have a single connection, I thought I'd include it as it was on the criteria. When I read the title, I immediately had a connection from a song called "Born to be wild." This song is an old song which I believe was made in 1980. Not to get off track, but I learned this song because my dad listens to it once in a while. Now that I'd think of it, I'd wish I read this poem earlier like in 4th grade when I thought I was different from the rest. I felt like I was ugly and dumb. But being ugly and dumb isn't bad because it's only your thoughts. Being ugly and dumb is just a bad way of saying you are unique.

In conclusion, everyone is different in a way or another which is actually a good thing! This song is very motivational and also has a meaningful depth to it.

In my own personal spin, I thought this poem was great. in fact, It was one-of the greatist poems I've ever seen in my life. The poem had great flow with it, and had a deep, but easy to understand meaning that we can all probably relate too. Ever compared yourself to others? I did before, but you shouldn’t.
This poem “Born to Stand Out”, reminded me of the book I read 3 days ago. It was about a girl whos a nerd that got rejected by her crush when she tried to ask him out (even though she didn’t really know him).. She decided to change basically everything about her after that. That includes, hair style, hair colour, clothes, and even personality. In the end, after the boy got to know more about the girl, the boy likes the girl only because she isn’t like everyone else, she is unique.
I feel like this poem is saying that we shouldn’t compare yourself to others and just love yourself because everyone is different and unique. In paragraph 2, verse 2, I feel like what it means by “saying what we should be”, is saying that the media is showing us pictures and videos of people more “better and more good looking” than us. That is kind of saying what we should be, but it’s untrue.
So if you ever compare yourself to others, then don’t, because you don’t have to change yourself to “fit in”. You should love yourself.

She decided to confess to her crush (even though she didn’t really know him). Unfortunately she got rejected by her crush. She decided to change basically everything about her after that. That includes, hair style, hair colour, clothes, shoes and even personality to something people would find "cool or beautiful". In the end, after the boy got to know more about the girl, the boy likes the girl not because of her new look, but because she isn’t like everyone else, she is unique.
I feel like this poem is saying that we shouldn’t compare yourself to others and just love yourself because everyone is different and unique. If you don't love your looks, then there has to be something else you love about yourself. In paragraph 2, line 2, I feel like what it means by “saying what we should be”, is saying that the media is showing us pictures and videos of people more “better and more good looking” than us, and we shouldn't compare ourselves to them.
So if you ever compare yourself to others, then don’t, because you don’t have to change yourself to “fit in”. You should always love yourself.

Ever felt like changing yourself to others? I did before, but you shouldn’t. I feel like this poem is saying that we should just appreciate and love yourself. You shouldn’t change yourself for others.
In paragraph 4, “Blonde, thin and beautiful”, is what people want to be. They want to change their self to be like that so people could love them. People who changed him/herself usually don’t know that there are people who already loves them the way they are. It may not seem like it but it’s true. “Trying to be like everyone else”. The thing is, if you try to be like everyone else, then everyone will be the same. There won’t be anyone who’s different. No one will be special.
This poem, “Born to Stand Out”, reminded me of the book I read before. I was about a girl who’s a nerd. She was “not good looking” and she got bullied by her own step sister. She decided to confess to her crush (even though she didn’t really know him). Unfortunately she got rejected by her crush. She decided to basically change everything about her after that. That includes hair style, hair colour, clothes, shoes and even personality to something people would find “cool or beautiful”. In the end, after the boy got to know more about the girl, the boy likes the girl not because of her new look, but because she isn’t like everyone else, she is unique.
If you ever feel like changing your looks, then don’t. You don’t need to change yourself to fit in. You should always love yourself and appreciate yourself.

That poem was very deep. What poem you may ask well it is called born to stand out by Breanna Myles. It was about trying to fit in but it is okay to be yourself and stand- out. You probably had this moment where you felt left out, didn't fit in or something. Well, we all have. But why do we have to have this moment or feeling? Why can't we all be different? I think that many people try to be different but this "society" won't really allow us to.

I thought the poem was about how the world makes these weird expectations to be "one of us" and I sometimes do that and we probably all do. When it said "what if no one likes the real me" I thought about how people might feel that way as well but they are afraid to express or stand out. When I was doing the conference, Mr.Hong told me that I should ask more questions if I have any since a lot of people have those questions but they haven't asked it. If you think about it politically, it would be, parties. Some people have amazing thoughts about how are country could be better, but they keep it to them selves. But in a party, someone has the same thought, and I don't think that any parties get 0 votes. What I mean is that there is someone out there that will have a similar thought or a opinion.

Overall, this poem may seem like a simple poem but it is very meaningful and deep to many people. I personally take this as an encouragement for people to be.... Different.

I don’t really think I ever tried to fit in, if anything I tried (and failed) to stand out. I was always a pretty shy kid, probably still am, actually. It’s really not/wasn’t because I wanted to fit in, but I guess I was just really… I don’t even know where I’m going with this. Anyways, that’s enough talking about myself, because I need to talk about the poem.
I think that the big idea of the poem is that it’s okay to stand out. Which would be assumed because they repeated themselves literally 3 times during the poem:
‘Trying to fit in
Blend in and about
The problem with this
You were born to stand out’
‘What if no one likes the real me
As you ask in doubt
But don't be afraid
You were born to stand out’
’It's time to breakaway
That's what life is about
So let go of your fears
You were born to stand out’
The whole poem kind of makes me think that.

The above is super true, and the media aren’t always as confident as they seem.

Born to Stand Out is a strong poem that is by Breanna Myles.
Well here is my opinion of what this poem means to me. This poem means that it is okay to be different. I think in this poem one of the lines are "I just want to be me" because you can always try to fit in but even if you are just not that type of person then it is okay to be different. This poem reminds me of when I think I was in grade 3, and when I had friends in a "group" and an "enemy" in the same group. So one day my friends from that group asked me if I wanted to go out and hang out with them. I said sure but then my "enemy" said this to me. "No you are not part of this group so you are not allowed to hang out with us. This made me feel very sad. ("Enemy" if you are reading this then please don't do it again).
Now it is time for me to put a spin on this poem. To me this poem is kind of like a story. This means that we are all different and it does not matter if you are different. So don't worry if you cannot fit it with your friends as I said, everyone is different.

How would you feel if you were called a freak? You probably had one moment in your life when you don’t quite “fit” in, maybe because of your physical characteristics. Well don’t worry, you were born to stand out which is why you are different in unique ways.
The poem Born to Stand Out is a very strong poem by Breanna Myles. This poem means a lot to me and I can relate to this poem a lot. In my opinion the poem Born to Stand Out, is to represent us in different ways. Not all different people are bad. Here is a personal connection. Have you ever been excluded? Well here is one time when it happened to me.

There is another line in the poem saying “no two are the same” and as I said this lots of times, everyone is different in unique ways. It doesn’t matter if your physical characteristics are different whether you are fat, skinny, short, or tall.

The society that we live in today is supposed to be “accepting” and it tells you to be “body positive”. But why is the standard “blonde, thin and beautiful”? As Breanna says “the media frames us.”, in my opinion, this is true. The media has driven some people as far as suicide. It makes you think “why can’t I just be myself?". We are told that we have to dress a certain way and look a certain way. In the poem, Breanna says “it’s time to break away”. I think what she means is that we are so obsessed with trying to be a certain way that it has really made us think that we’re not good enough and we need to be “perfect”. We need to break away from the stereotypes and just BE OURSELVES and not who people tell us to be.

I find it really empowering how Breanna says “don’t be afraid you were born to stand out”. This is true, you shouldn’t be afraid because everyone is different and we weren’t all born “blonde, thin and beautiful”. I myself have been categorized as the “weird girl” but I don’t find it offensive because I know that everyone is kind of weird in their own little way. All in all, I think what Breanna Myles is trying to get out is that we shouldn't try to fit in because in the end, we are all different and unique in our own special ways.

When you try to fit in a group, but you seems to be left out. When you need a partner, but nobody chose you. When you try to start a topic, but no one seems to understand you. You seems different, you are afraid to be different, and you want to disguise yourself to be like the others. You started doing makeup, talk like the others, dress like the others, act like the others, trying to fit in that “popular circle”.You seems to fit in now, but lost yourself at the same time. Don’t be afraid to show to real you, there must be friends who like you as “you”, not the you with someone else’s shadow in you. Everyone’s born different, different look, different hobbies, different personalities, and each of us is unique, as him or herself, not as anyone else. I used to compare myself with others, mostly with my biggest struggle: being the tallest. I am the tallest in class from preschool till now. I am always sitting at the very back no matter what class it is. I used to go to a basketball club, there were so many times when I wanted to quit, the reason is that I’m the tallest girl in there. At last, I did quit. I regretted quitting basketball club just because I’m tall after a few weeks, but time doesn’t go back and give you another chance. Everyone should know Terry Fox, he was only 18 years old when he was diagnosed with osteogenic sarcoma (bone cancer) and forced to have his right leg amputated 15 centimetres. He ran from St. John’s all the way across, and unfortunately were forced to stop the marathon of hope at Thunder Bay, Ontario. Now, even Terry Fox was gone, we still remember him. To date, over 750 million dollars has been raised worldwide for cancer research in Terry’s name. We have the Terry Fox run every year now, so this heroic Canadian can be remembered. Terry Fox is different than the others, but he’s not afraid to be different, instead he showed the world the real him, and he was respected and was supported by everyone else. Don’t be afraid to be different, don’t be afraid to stand out, don’t make yourself someone else, because you unique and wonderful as the real you. Be rea, be you, because you were born to stand out.

You may seem different. Like maybe, you aren't in the best shape. or you can't do something that everyone else can.

You may get discriminated. And separated from the rest.
You may be judged.
And you may give yourself harsh words.
To change who you really are.

But all of that doesn't need to happen. Everyone has their own strengths and weaknesses. Even if you are different, it's okay. Because once we all understand why it's important to be this way, nothing harsh needs to happen. Don't force yourself to be someone you really aren't.
Now to the real point. Lyric studies.
This self-assuring poem written by Breanna Myles, was trying to tell the readers that you were born to stand out. People have their way of standing out. For example, one may be out there because they are amazing at music. They've mastered many instruments. They've always been called by the teachers to perform, and show the others what they're made of. Another might have a disease of some sort. Casted out of crowds and group projects, no one to play with, but understands why. Looks down on themselves because of the disability. But it's really okay! It's nice to stand out. I know people might think "Oh... I'm not going to fit in because I'm not pretty enough." Yeah yeah. I know what most people are thinking. But that's the reason why you're so special. You're different from the others. Rather than copying those who are popular and have tons of friends, why not just be yourself? The mask will have to come down one day. So ask yourself. "Is this really me?" Because It isn't if you changed. Many people think it's better if they do what the people would like. Why does it matter? Just because there are a few more stares on your already perfected body, does that matter to you? Just the title gives out many assurance and comfort for those who can really relate.

There are usually stereotypes in social media, and many other things. There would be many on posters. Newspapers. Anything. They show up everywhere. And the most common seems to be being beautiful and skinny. Having talked about this before, a member in my favorite band had dieted like crazy many times. Just because he wanted to look better on camera. Even though he was already the cutest mochi on earth. People change themselves to get positive feedback from others. To get more support from people. To earn some love. And we could give those people what they want without them changing.

Don't hold everything in. Keeping it all bottled up isn't going to help you. Speak to a close family member. Anyone. As long as they are trusted, I bet speaking to them would relieve a lot of your stress.

Nobody is the same. Yet we aren't much different either. We are all humans. No matter tall or short. Fat or skinny. Because we are all beautiful on the inside and outside.

So instead of saying people are 'different', let's call them..

Unique.

And perfect just the way they are.

I’ve had these experiences too. I used to think that I should have a personality that everyone loves. I changed myself. I changed myself into a person that acts gentle and a real lady. I always sat up straight when someone passed by me. To be honest, I’ve let myself slack off at times. But now, look at me! I hit my friends as a joke in front of everyone! Oh how much I’ve grown since then!

Don’t hide, show your unique side. Show your stripes, as the Frosted Flakes ad says! It’s something nice about you and you should learn to appreciate it. "I want to fit in!" Why? Why is it that people find it necessary to fit in when really you are Born to Stand Out? As I was reading it all I was thinking was this girl wants to fit in like all the rest of the people in society. But there was a lot more to it then I first originally thought. Like, why pressure yourself when no one else is pressuring you? Maybe because you're scared, lyrics that back that up are "Afraid to be different, In fear and in shame". It points out that people are afraid to express who they are, because they will get judged. There is a lot of things that factor into why people are scared that they will get judged. Something that plays into being scared is, when people are growing up they're taught in some families that you need to act, and look a certain way. For example, boys like blue, girls like pink, boys like football, and girls don't like sports. Which I have found to be majorly emphasized in society, especially in older times. But what you really are being taught is stereotypes from society for your brain to feed on for awhile which in most cases can be harmful to some people’s feelings i.e. LGBT people. But I guess to put as simple as I can put it is be who you want to be, and don't be scared to express yourself. Even under pressure don’t give in it’s your life so live it.

When I think of standing out I think of outliers like Bill Gates and Satoshi Tajiri. Those people came by success because of hard work, a niche in the system that wasn’t filled, and being themselves. Bill Gates I find to be an inspiration for starting from making computers inside of his basement to where he is now, and the reason he was so successful was because he stood out. His skills with computers were beyond amazing. Satoshi Tajiri was the creator of Pokemon, a world famous video game that was all made out of his imagination not anyone else’s. Yes he got some of his ideas from being inspired by things, but he didn’t copy anyone, he didn’t do it like anyone else would be capable of doing. However, when you look at society I find that being yourself is looked down upon, which is quite unfortunate because there is a lot of creative and great personalities out there but some of them choose to hide themselves behind fake personas. All because they are too scared to face the judgemental people. Like Breanna Myles said “The media frames us Saying what we should be” and that is true in multiple senses. Media is a almost like a widespread disease, because it hurts some people’s pride, hearts, and some people’s feelings. It sends off bad expectations to people, saying be pretty for women, and buff and a strong individual that shows no feelings for men. Luckily people are understanding more and more that those expectations/stereotypes aren’t true, and shouldn’t be expected out of a single human being. Sadly, not only was social media affected by this but schools were too. And I knew that. September of 2016 I was terrified, because I was switching schools. In the back of my mind I had that feeling like no one would like me for being me, but now when I think of that I just question myself, and why would I think no one would like me for who I am. In the end I made friends for being me, and If I acted like someone else I probably wouldn’t have made friends. To wrap this all up I’ll leave you with this question why hide yourself when you were to “Born to Stand Out”?

There is more than one thing this could mean- separated from your group in a busy store, trying and failing to find your way to a coffee shop, but it can also mean something completely different. Trying to fit in and do what everyone else is doing. Wearing or putting on things that- although you may not admit it- just aren't you. Trying to be "cool". This will only make you feel worse about yourself, fall deeper into that pit, that trap that is modern "fashion" and social media. It's all a lie. You may feel outcast or awkward about who you are, but hey, if you could see into people's thoughts, you would know that that's how everyone feels, and really is what makes you the most like everyone else. The best way to feel happy and confident with you is to be you, and truly be you. Then everyone will see what it means to truly be free, and learn to follow in your footsteps and start appreciating everyone for their differences. He who has overcome his fears will truly be free- Aristotle, 384 BC- 322 BC. When you try to fit in a group, but you seems to be left out. When you need a partner, but nobody chose you. When you try to start a topic, but no one seems to understand you. You seems different, you are afraid to be different, and you want to disguise yourself to be like the others. You started doing makeup, talk like the others, dress like the others, act like the others, trying to fit in that “popular circle”.You seems to fit in now, but lost yourself at the same time. At last, I did quit. I regretted quitting basketball club just because I’m tall after a few weeks, but time doesn’t go back and give you another chance. Everyone should know Terry Fox, he was only 18 years old when he was diagnosed with osteogenic sarcoma (bone cancer) and forced to have his right leg amputated 15 centimetres. He ran from St. John’s all the way across, and unfortunately were forced to stop the marathon of hope at Thunder Bay, Ontario. Now, even Terry Fox was gone, we still remember him. To date, over 750 million dollars has been raised worldwide for cancer research in Terry’s name. We have the Terry Fox run every year now, so this heroic Canadian can be remembered. Terry Fox is different than the others, but he’s not afraid to be different, instead he showed the world the real him, and he was respected and was supported by everyone else. In the poem the author wrote, “it’s time to breakaway. That’s what life is about. So let go of your fears. You were born to stand out.” From my understanding, I think this means don’t be afraid to be different, don’t be afraid to stand out, don’t make yourself someone else, because you unique and wonderful as the real you. You may feel outcast or awkward about who you are, but hey, if you could see into people's thoughts, you would know that that's how everyone feels, and really is what makes you the most like them. The best way to feel happy and confident with you is to be you, and truly be you. Then everyone will see what it means to truly be free, and learn to follow in your footsteps and start appreciating everyone for their differences. “He who has overcome his fears will truly be free”- Aristotle, 384 BC- 322 BC. Why are we so scared to stand out? That is why we need to overcome this strange fear of who we are, and begin living life to the fullest- not by hiding behind a twisted modern view of beauty, but by learning that true beauty is on the inside.

Lost In the crowd. There is more than one thing this could mean- separated from your group in a busy store, trying and failing to find your way to a coffee shop, but it can also mean something completely different. Trying to fit in and do what everyone else is doing. Wearing or putting on things that- although you may not admit it- just aren't you. Trying to be "cool". This will only make you feel worse about yourself, fall deeper into that pit, that trap that is modern "fashion" and social media. It's all a lie. This is the big idea of the poem “Born to stand out”, and I would know! That was my life. I went through a faze of just trying to fit in, but that is just not me- I never had less friends. I am a classic example of someone who was born to stand out, my crazy enthusiasm and bad puns cannot be contained. When I am myself, I also know that any people who like me like me for who I am, and not a mask I put on to hide from myself. Have you ever tried to fit in with everyone else but never accomplished (that goal)? Well I bet everyone has gone though that experience when you're trying to be someone else but not yourself. But, why waste the time to change yourself when you can be unique?
There is this poem that we read and it's called “Born to stand out” It tells me about people trying to fit in but you were born to stand out you were born to be unique and to express yourself in our own (your own?) way. In the poem, it mentioned “Born to stand out times, I think it's telling me that it is an important verse. To me “ Born to stand out” means to be confident in whatever you do and show the crowd your real self.
In one part of the poem, I found it really meaningful. It says “ Trying to be like everyone else, but at the same time I'm losing myself.” It makes me feel that when you're trying to be like someone else, you are changing of how you appear and act so basically your forgetting about your old self. Maybe this person who wrote this wanted to change themselves because no one like the real her/he or they might have been bullied by others about his/her appearance or culture.
This poem reminds me of “Tank man” which is a person that stood in front of the tanks and risked his life so there wouldn't be war. He was really courageous to stand up in front of the tanks and protest to fight for his beliefs and his right so everyone can live in a happy and safe place. Not only did he stand for himself but he also stood for everyone else that lived there.
In conclusion, the poem might seem really simple but if you look between the lines, it's actually very deep and meaningful.

Have you ever found yourself trapped in the swirling vortex of "popularity",always buying new clothes and useless knick knacks trying to "be in the "cool""? And, if you don't have what everyone else has,then you will think yourself as useless,a FREAK? Have you ever tried to be the SAME? Well,the truth is,EVERYONE is different,it's just more evident in some people, as it states in the poem born to stand out . I find that poem very moving. Even though some people look more different than others on the outside ,deep down everyone's different,no one is MORE different than others. The person always says that she was born to stand out.Augie,a person with face deformities also says that he stands out.They all think that they only have flaws.The thing is,I don’t agree at all.I have an ordinary face, but I sometimes feel embarrassed by it. The big idea is that everyone is different deep down. No one is ever the same. Be who you are,and be proud of it.

Hello people in the class I am Kevin.m and I will be telling you about Born to stand out. The big idea is don't let anyone change who you are and dare to be different. A line from this poem is an example of what I just said about not changing yourself and the line is “the media frames telling us what we should be but why don't they get it I just want to be me” and now I will explain my experiences similar with the situation. I used to think I was really, really, really stupid and then my brother said it was true so then I just tried to act smart but my brother just kept saying it then I realized he thinks it, but does that mean it is true. Now it is time for my opinion on this poem. overall it is inspirational to let people know that it is fine to be yourself so this gets a 4.5/5. Also one more thing don't compare yourself to others.

When you try to fit in a group, but you always seem to be left out. When you need a partner, but nobody chooses you. You are always different comparing to your friends.When you try to start a topic, but no one seems to understand you. You tried to copy everything others do, you did become that person afterwards, but lost yourself. You finally realized, everyone is born to stand out. I’ve also had these moments which I can connect.
You seem different, you are afraid to be different, and you want to disguise yourself to be like the others. I used to compare myself with others, mostly with my biggest struggle: being the tallest. I have been the tallest in my class from preschool till now. I am always sitting at the very back no matter what class it is. I used to go to a basketball club, but then I noticed that I’m just a beginner but already the tallest person. I felt uncomfortable and embarrassed. I’m so tall but everyone else is so much better at basketball. I wanted to quit because the only reason why I joined basketball was because I am so tall. At last, I did quit. I realized that that was a dumb decision and I regretted quitting for a silly reason of just because I’m tall. But, the team I was on didn’t give second chances.
Everyone should know Terry Fox, he was only 18 years old when he was diagnosed with osteogenic sarcoma (bone cancer) and forced to have his right leg amputated 15 centimetres. He ran from St. John’s all the way across, and unfortunately were forced to stop the marathon of hope at Thunder Bay, Ontario. Now, even Terry Fox was gone, we still remember him. To date, over 750 million dollars has been raised worldwide for cancer research in Terry’s name. We have the Terry Fox run every year now, so this heroic Canadian can be remembered. Terry Fox is different than the others, but he’s not afraid to be different, instead he showed the world the real him, and he was respected and was supported by everyone else.
You are always different comparing to your friends, You started doing makeup, talk like the others, dress like the others, act like the others, trying to fit in that “popular circle”.You seem to fit in now, but lost yourself at the same time. “Blonde, thin and beautiful. Trying to be like everyone else. But at the same time. I am losing myself.” This was written by Breanna Myles. I really love this part of her poem because I think it really shows how many people feels, maybe some will realize how they had been after reading this.
Don’t be afraid to show the real you, there are people who like you for who you really are and not for being like someone’s shadow. Everyone’s born with different looks, different hobbies, different personalities, and each of us is unique, as him or herself, not as anyone else. Be real, be you, because you were born to stand out.

To begin my opinion on this very complicated matter ,I will talk about what most people believe and how my beliefs contradict theirs.Most people say that normal people look like how most people look,act like most people act ,buy what most people buy, and do what most people do. To be normal,you must meet all 3. For example,if a person is pretty much normal,but has a weird face,good job CREEP! I disagree. I think that ALL people are normal,what other people call NORMAl and ABNORMAL,is just what I say is what MOST people do and what is UNIQUE,but what MOST people do is not necessarily right.Still don’t get me,I will use an interesting poem called BORN TO STAND OUT.
Born to stand out is a moving poem,a poem about what most people call ABNORMAL.The girl says that she was born to stand out. She is apparently different.She most likely has faced bullies in life,and that makes her feel weak and special,not special in a good way,but a bad.She says that other people don’t understand that she just wants to be her. I think that she is good the way it is.\n the end she says it is time to breakaway,which probably means she wants to ignore the others and just be who she is.
Now,even I have been different in something before.I used to be in this after school class where I felt awkward because everyone else is so much smarter than me.I felt like a homo erectus so primitive and dumb.
