TANK MAN

This week, we got back to our daily routines and each student was given a job to complete at the end of each day. On Friday, each student completed their jobs very well and the class looked amazing when everyone was dismissed at the end of the day. You will switch jobs every few weeks. Take a look at the image that was designed by your classmates, Vivian and Sofia, for our social media feed. It not only takes into account the elements of art that we have been learning about since last term, but it also takes into account our class' love for learning!

a.) What you think was going through the person's mind when he decided to stand up for his beliefs? Remember from our reading that people stood up for their political beliefs. Many people wanted a democracy and were standing up to the communist government. If you have any questions about this before you post your response, ask them here.

First par!!

That was a moving video, seeing someone who would actually stand up to soldiers like that. But what do you think the soldiers were thinking when he stood up to them. There are so many possibilities such as why is he doing this? Why would he risk his life for the belief of having a democratic government? How could he have such a back bone to make this kind of sacrifice? Those are all possibilities. I am actually amazed that he stood his ground against all those tanks with trained soldiers inside. The soldiers probably never prepared or saw that scenario coming. They probably had no clue what he was doing. If I was a soldier in one of the tanks what would be going through my head would be what the heck is he doing standing in the middle of the road stopping so many tanks just for the belief of having a non-communist government. What do you think the soldiers were thinking about when they got into bed that night? Probably that man, and how he took a stand against so many of us just for the wellbeing of himself and other people of china.

Nice paragraph! Make sure to go over your paragraph again, and check for a few grammar mistakes, such as never starting a sentence with 'But', and a few other mistakes like such. Other than that, maybe you would like to lengthen your paragraph, and maybe add a little but more detail in your opinion, and the situation. (also, make sure to capitalize "China")

If someone didn't know what was going on in that video, I would think that they will be screaming "WHAT THE HECK ARE U DOING?? RU TRYING TO FRICKIN KILL YOUR SELF???" Well, if you knew what was going on, you would think that they are a very brave.

Well, for people who didn't know what was going on for some reason, well, that person was part of the demo (or uprising if you read the hunger games series) and he was trying to stop the tanks. That person seemed crazy but I knew he was doing it for a reason. I think in that person's mind he was thinking that he could do anything that could help the people struggling in the country.

I really wonder how the people in the tanks felt. I thought, would they support the tank man? Why didn't they just run over him if they tried to stop the protest? I thought that they didn't know how much the people suffered or they got brain washed by the government.

At the end, several people came and dragged him out. I thought that they did that so they didn't have anyone dead. I felt that the soldeirs were making threats about killing him but he still stood there so the others got scared so they dragged him out.

Overall, the tankman is a very brave person, and people like that should be ones leading demos and political beliefs.

*Watching the Tank Man Video* OMG! What are you doing! Please don't die, please don't die please don't. OMG, he survived! What was he doing anyways?

Hmm, lets think about this for a second. What could he have possibly be doing? There are so many things he could be doing! He might be trying to stand up for the people who wanted more freedom in their country or maybe drunk. If he was standing up for people who wanted their country to be a democracy then he is a pretty brave guy. I know I personally would not have done what he did. I would be too scared to do that stuff.

Know lets look at it from another point of view. How about the point of view from the soldiers from the tanks. I think the soldiers did a pretty good job being patient with the guy before they got too out of control. At first I thought they would run him over or even shoot him. Where are the tanks even going? War? Maybe the tank man is a pacifist. He might have been trying to stop them from going to war. I don't it was just a random guess.

At the end I think the people did a good job dragging him away from the tanks because if that went on any longer he might have been killed.

In conclusion I think that the tank man is really brave. He stood up for the people in the country who might have not had the freedom to speak. Thank you tank man for what you have done.

OH MY GOSH!!! WHAT IS HE DOING?!?!?! HE IS GOING TO GET RUN OVERRRR!! It may look like that this guy is an idiot but if you know what he is actually doing you’ll be very amazed. This guy is actually very brave for doing that- he stood in front of a bunch of tanks getting ready for war. This guy stood up for his political belief. He even lives in a communist country!! I’m pretty sure that this guy is a pacifist. Other people wanted to do the same but they were silent about it and worried about the consequences they’ll have to face, but Tank Man took action.
Let's talk what the soldiers were thinking. I’m pretty sure that they were very annoyed. “Aishh...this kid... Why can’t he move?!?!?! I’m just trying to do my job but nope, this kid comes here and ruins everything!!! I’M GOING TO GET FIRED!!!!!”, is what I imagine the soldiers saying. The first tank even tried to go around him but Tank Man was fast and blocked it’s way.
Even though Tank Man might’ve drived the soldiers CRAZY… he setted an example for other people. He was kind of like a hero for the people who agreed with him.

That video was another deep one. When one person does one thing that's good, everyone follows the good person. So when the person stood up for his/her country which made the tank stop, which saved a lot of lives.
I think the soldiers wanted to kill the person but not wanting to at the same time because they felt bad. I also think that the soldier was also thinking this which was bad. Move or I will run you.
The man represented their country which is standing up for your own country which saved lots of lives. He was a true hero for his country.

The man stood still in front of the tanks, the tanks is getting closer and closer to him, but he still stood there. not moving one step away from the tanks. Ten metres, five metres, one metre, and the tank in front stopped in front of the man. No matter which direction the tank try to go to pass the man blocking them, the man will block the tanks from moving forward.
From the soldiers’ point of view, they’re doing their job, and a man is blocking them from finishing it. There are many possibilities of what was the soldiers in the tanks thinking about. Should we just run over him? Why is he the only one who stands out when nobody else did? Why is he risking his life for democracy? What should we do? I think maybe the soldiers didn’t want to kill him either. Also I think the soldiers were kind of brain washed by the government. From my opinon, I don’t agree with the communist government. We should have the freedom to chose too.
From the man’s point of view, what can he be thinking about? Why isn’t he scared of the tanks? He can stand in front of the tanks at this second, and get ran over the next! everyone only have one life, so why is he risking his life to protest? I don’t really understand why he protest like this, but I am sure amazed by his bravery and protest for himself and everyone who wants a democracy.

Few grammatical errors:

'No matter which direction the tank try to go to pass the man' Should be 'No matter which direction the tank tried to go in order to pass the man' Or something like that.

' many possibilities of what was the soldiers in the tanks thinking about.' Should be 'Many possibilities of what the soldiers in the tanks were thinking about.'

'Opinon' on almost the end of paragraph 2 should be changed spelling wise.

'What can he be thinking about?' could be changed to 'What could he be thinking about?'

'Everyone only have one life' can also be 'Everyone only has one life.' Also, don't forget to capitalize!

'I don't really understand why he protest like this' has to be in past tense.

I have read a few books about the Tank Man, and I think it was truly heroic of him to potentially throw his life under a tank. If the men in the tank had a change of orders, they could've easily run him over, but thank goodness they didn't! I think the man was pretty young, and he wanted a change in the communist government for future generations. He was pretty young in the video, and although no one knows what happened to him, I'm sure he's still very well respected now.

I can't even begin to imagine what the men in the tanks what've thought, but something that really stands out to me is the fact that the men didn't actually run him over, which means they do care about people's lives. They must've thought the man was crazy, yet might've been a little moved by his courage and bravery, to stand in front of a line of tanks.

At the end of the video, some people run in, and chased him off. I think they did this to prevent him from being squashed under the tanks. Overall, I thought that this was a very heroic deed, but I was a little shocked when the man started climbing up the tank. I can imagine that the soldiers were threatening to kill him. I guess I'm glad that the people at the end came and made him leave, because it would've been really sad if the tanks actually ran him over.

People like the tank man are the people that we need in the world, the people whom actually make a difference in the world. This man has truly changed many lives.

This was a very influential, as well as a nerve-wrecking video. The man, now known as 'tank man' was very brave and courageous to stand out from the crowd and openly making debates and statements, about the communist country he didn't think was good enough. Because in the next few years, more would be happening. And the people wouldn't even have a chance against it. Many people probably thought he was crazy, standing in front of a huge tank more than 3 times larger than he was that could've easily injured, or even kill him. And yet, he didn't back away at all. In fact, he even walked closer. This heroic act really changed everyone's perspective of this government and how people can change the country. Even though the country is still communist to this day. The men in the tanks were probably confused and worried that their leader would order them to actually run over the persistent man. When they actually peeped out in the very end, although we couldn't hear what they were saying, the air was just stifling between the men. As we could see from the stance they were standing in and how we could see their mouths slightly move. I was really glad that the people on the side finally broke those 2 up, before anything more serious happened. I think we could crown tank man as a brave soul that truly gave all he could to change the future of many others.

Just one question. What was tank man holding? This question probably wouldn't be answered. Just curious!

And this video also reminds me of the protesting over The Modular Housing. Everyone had their own beliefs and started making things right. Or at least what they thought right. Again, this was an amazing act.

Prior to watching the video my Dad was telling me the story he knew, about ‘tank man’, which included the fact that no one ever saw him again (which is some crazy, twisted, eeriness that reminds me of all dystopian fiction books I’ve read, or some really good witness protection…), but did not tell me that ‘tank man’ ACTUALLY STOOD ON THE TANK AND YELLED AT IT UNTIL SOMEONE INSIDE OF IT HAD TO POP HIS HEAD OUT, HOLY SMOKES!
I don’t even know if the man was thinking anything when he ran in front of those tanks. Honestly, do you want to get shot? Or do you want to get shot? I’m thinking it was probably a on-the-spot decision. I don’t think the people in the tank were too pleased to have a man blocking their way, and stomping on the roof of their vehicle. I can imagine that they were probably very confused, and were using their walkie talkies to communicate with their bosses in those awkward moments when they didn’t move at all.
‘Tank man’ , the other people who pulled him away, and the people that were standing off camera all represented what the majority wanted, but couldn’t have. They represented the fact that to change the world you live in, you have to take action, and really try. Try even if you might fail... We can all learn a lot from the story of tank man.

" To me, it means that he is willing to stand up for what he believes is right. The tank is a big and scary weapon that can shoot people or places from long distance . It is made to intimidate. The man standing in front of the tank is not just stopping the tank ,but it means that he is willing to be run over and die to stop the China government . The china government is using their power to be violent, kill,and start war. This man believes that china should have a government that uses their power for peace not war.

Have you ever watched the video “Tank Man”? It’s one of the most influential videos of our time. When I watched the video, I thought that Tank Man was very courageous to stand in front of the tanks to prevent the tanks from moving forward. He wanted to have a democratic government instead of a communist government. I also think that he was a pacifist and didn’t want the tanks to hurt anyone. Whilst the man was standing in front of the tanks, I was surprised that the tanks didn’t run over him. I think that the soldiers were baffled as to why the man was standing in front of the tank. In addition, I think that the soldiers were confused and taken aback because they never thought that someone would stand in front of the tank. Therefore the soldiers didn’t know what to do. I imagine that the soldiers were asking themselves “Why is that man not allowing us to pass? What is he doing? What should we do?” While the others dragged the man off, I felt relieved because he probably would have died if he stayed there any longer. In conclusion, Tank Man is very courageous and influential because he stood in front of a line of tanks for a democratic government.

When I first watched the video, I had no idea what was going on. Second time I watched the video, I had some questions. Like why was he in the middle of the road? Who are the people that come to him at the end? And why where there tanks in the middle of the road? Well according to my dad, there was a protest and the Chinese government sent tanks with army men to split the fight, but someone came out and stood in front of the tanks so they couldn't go anywhere. I think the guy in the video was supporting the people and not the government. So when he ran into the middle of the road, he was giving it his all. If the people driving the tanks where not as nice in the video, they would have killed him. The guys was supporting the people so much, he didn't

Because it isn't everyday you see someone blocking three flipping tanks. The man and the others that appears in the end of the video are representing the people that are agents the Chinese government. Despite all of this, we should always try to stand up for anything. Even if it might cost your life, if you believe it is right, stand up for it.

Wow, tank man is so brave, he stood up according to his beliefs and blocked tanks. Well my mom was in university in 1989 and my mom told me that she was also protesting, but she was protesting in Xiamen , a different city in China. She said that tank man was the only people who stood in front of the tanks after June 4, the massacre that happened. She said that tank man is very brave and we should all admire how he stood up to his beliefs and followed his own thought. The tank man really inspired me to continue my goals and follow my beliefs because he can stand up against tanks why can't I stand up against my problem. Tank man is one of the most admirable person I ever know.

10 meters, 5 meters, now its right in front of this man known as Tank Man. I think that Tank Man was very brave to stand in front of an entire row of tanks because if this happened at North Korea, he might've already been ran over. He's willing to do what he think is right, and that's to have a Democratic government and not a communist one. The soldiers probably never expected that some citizen would just stand in front of an entire row of tanks. They probably thought "what is he doing, why won't he move, what's going on?". I don't think the soldiers would really run him over but they might've felt bad because maybe the soldiers didn't want any of this to happen either. It was a good thing that the other citizens pulled him away, life isn't always fair and you can't always change everything to what you want it to be. I'm not so sure but I think the people at then end who dragged Tank Man away represent the citizens of China. They dealt with the situations that has happened and their communist government. Tank Man can be someone who is influential for what he has done for his country.

What's the most courageous man you've ever seen? For me, it's the "Tank Man." Try to imagine your life is at the corner of the cliff, this is what it was like for "Tank Man"

If you live under a rock and don't know what Tank Man is, I'll try to explain it to you. Tank Man is an unidentified person who stood in front of a row of tanks on June 5, 1989. Why? Well, he's brave enough to risk his right to something that he believes is right, which is to have A democratic government.

There's two heroes of the story, the Tank Man, and the civilian driving the tank. If it wasn't for the tank driver, then he could've been easily run over and crushed by the immense weight of the tank.

Wow, just watching this made me fear for Tank Man. Just imagine being in his place. It took a lot of guts to do that. Him being so brave that he would stand in front of A TANK shows that he was really passionate about his beliefs. I think many things were rushing through his mind when he did this like, “is this really worth it?”. It’s amazing how at the end of the video we see people gathered around who are also clearly very passionate about their belief in getting a democratic government. This shows that it’s important to stand up for what you believe in... just maybe not going so far as to risk your life. Tank Man is a great role model in my opinion. I bet it was a great feeling knowing that others were behind you, and with you to support you when they all gathered around.

It’s insane that people would risk their lives just for something they believe in. Take ‘Tank Man’ for an example. He just goes in front of multiple tanks because he believes that having a democratic government instead of a communist one is right. Now if I were one of the soldiers in the tanks I would’ve been wondering “What the heck is this dude doing?! What am I supposed to do now, I can just run him over!”. I’m guessing it’s now obvious that the soldiers weren’t expecting that to happen. What about the other people that came out of nowhere and dragged him out of the scene? I think that maybe they dragged him out because they didn’t want him dead. Maybe they thought that since the guy has been there for so long, the soldiers would’ve given up and just go over him. I honestly would’ve done the same.
This is a lesson people should know. If you believe something’s right, stand up for it.

That was an AMAZING video. After watching that video it gave me so much courage. However... shortly after my burst of courage I got lost in a train of thought thinking was that man even thinking before he ran out in front of those tanks? Well to be honest I think there was a little bit of thought behind his decision, but not much. But that doesn't really change how brave that was, and that he was standing up (literally) for his beliefs. Something I also thought about was what he was really thinking, and If I were to guess it would probably be something like "I'M SO ANGRY WITH HOW THIS COUNTRY IS RUN! Oh there's tanks, let's go stand in front of them. I'm sure that'll prove how much I believe in my thoughts. No matter if I get killed or not". All joking aside though I think what he did was a very noble thing to do and that, that should happen more often (not so much the standing in front of tank part but more standing up for your beliefs). Unfortunately, sometimes you do have to stand in front of a tank to get your message across.

Okay. When I saw this video, I thought he was crazy. Literally standing in front of the tank and risking his life for everyone to live in a safer place.
