Today was an important day. We learned about empathy. We learned about being kind to one another. We learned we should say positive things to one another. We learned it is important to celebrate cultures. We learned it is important to learn about other people. We learned celebrate our differences and treat each other with respect. We learned to S.O.A.R.. Parents, please watch the posted video with your child and use it as a conversation starter.

1.) MATH:

Finish your climate change current event - if you haven't already, share with both of your teachers.

3.) LA/WRITING:

Work on your scary short story - do your best to save and share this with Mr. Hong and Mr. Bains by Friday.

4.) FRENCH:

Collaborative Assessment (Basic French conversation)
Find a word that you can ask your partner tomorrow if they like it (e.g. aimes-tu les chats? *Translates to do you like cats?)

5.) POST A RESPONSE:

Today, we all learned it is important to accept people for being who they are. We do not judge people by the colour of their skin, how they look, what language they speak, what kind of food they eat, who they love, or their gender. WE ARE ALL EQUAL!
We are not giving you any criteria today. We would like you to simply write about what you think the 'BIG IDEA' is of the 'TO THIS DAY' video.
Remember, the big idea is the message the author wants you to take away.
Keep in mind, you will base the big idea of the video on your background knowledge and will draw on your personal connections when you provide support for your big idea.
If you share connections, please do not name anyone or single them out.

Big Idea:
I believe this video is trying to send the message that "You are beautiful". Those who judge you and do not accept you because of your appearance need to realize what it's like to be bullied. Even if it's 'Just a joke', it hurts. You may think that generations have changed, but each year, people realize. They understand what it's like to experience and feel the pain that they were given. It's not alright to stay silent, you need to know that EVERYONE is different. Because someone is not like you or your friends, doesn't mean they can't be themselves. It's essential to know as bullying and teasing occurs all the time, you could turn your back for a second, and the people behind you could be crying. Take caution with your words, everyone has a fragile side of them, even if it's one that only appears once in your life. You must stay strong, be true to yourself and show that you can shine without someone hovering over you and telling you what's right and what's wrong.

I think that the big idea of the video is that you shouldn't be rude or mean to anyone for their colour of skin, the language they speak, their gender, there identity, etc. doing this is hurtful and you shouldn't do this. It can scar someone and make them feel unaccepted, it can lead to things act are awful like suicide. So you should never do things like that. We are all equal.

I think that the big idea of this video is to be kind to other people and to tell you that you are amazing, and that you are beautiful, no matter what others say or do to you. Whatever they did to you or what happened in the past. It's always good to treat other people how you want to be treated. One wrong move can cause a traumatic life. The big idea would match two different perspectives. For some people, the big idea would be that you are beautiful and don’t let others tell you any other than that. For the rest of the people, it would be to treat others kindly.

The little girl in the video has a big birthmark on her face. This made her excluded and bullied by many people in school. Regardless of the appearance of others. My big idea is we are not qualified to evaluate their looks even their very ugly. Because we are equal. She just a normal little girl. She also has emotions. She also needs someone to love her and to comfort her . She just won't cry in front of us. That's because if she cried, she would only have more people to ridicule and neglect her. Because our ridicule made her become a person who even has to consider the consequences of a collapse…

Have you ever watched ‘To This Day’? Do people not understand you and tell you that you’re just sensitive? ‘To This Day’ is a YouTube video about the people in school name calling and making fun of students, how it affected the students for life and that the damage wasn’t temporarily. The big idea was that they were wrong, something mentioned several times in the video. That the people had to look closely and realize that they weren’t what everyone said they were, freaks, losers and more. That people needed to listen to how they felt and what was happening. Depression isn’t blinking, you can’t just get over it when someone tells you too. "Man saved a million people, but the million people can't save one", commented by someone in the comment section for the video of Jonghyun’s last goodbye to the world. Even these people that may be amazing could be suffering from depression or many things that everyone over looks like “If I were them, I’d be the happiest person alive” or, “How could you be a failure when you accomplished so much?” The video was about making people realize the effect of some “simple meaningless words” and that they are wrong. They don’t know you, they don’t want to, they just judge you from some things that aren’t who they really are and in the end it’s not true. You're not a freak, everyone is beautiful on the inside and although I don’t like sappy emotional stuff, everyone is unique and different, we should learn to accept each other despite our differences.

The narrator said, “ If you can’t see something that you’re beautiful in, get a new mirror, look a little longer, look a little harder, looking for a closer, because you are Beautiful in someway”. All people deserve to be excepted, and you will never be happy if u change what you are, with what others expect you to be. If your different, good. Be different, the world would be boring if we were all the same. If people don’t like what you do or who you are, who a cares? You will find the right people when you start being who you are.

Kindness isn't everywhere. People bully, people tease, people hurt others physically and mentally. There has to be a time you've done one of these and there has to be time someone did this to you too. If your nationality is different, if you might not have the same skin colour as others, we are all different. We shouldn't have to discriminate because somebody is different from us because we are all different. You shouldn't discriminate if they don't speak the same language as you. One small insult like "you're weird" can affect somebody's life forever. Even worse it can make somebody feel so bad they might just give up and even suicide. But you have to remember if somebody tells you things like that, that they're wrong and not you. Being kind is always important. Being kind can make someone's day better, but insulting would just make it worse. So we all have to remember that we shouldn't discriminate and be kind to one and other.

“Treat people how you want to be treated.” I’ve heard that phrase more than I can count. Everyone’s heard of it, but does everyone do what it tells you to? Definitely not. Which is why the video ‘To This Day’ demonstrates how little “meaningless words” you say to another person can scar them for a lifetime even to this day. We can all admit that we’ve done something to hurt another person in our lifetime so far, rather it’s intentionally or unintentionally. We’re all different in so many different ways, rather it’s about the physical differences or our personality. None of us are clones of one another, but that’s what make us so special and unique from each other. Never let someone else tell you that you are not unique or special, because that’s never the truth. I’ve said hurtful things before and others have said the same to me, and I’ve moved on from those mistakes to better myself. And keep in mind that a person could completely seem fine in your eyes but could be crumbling into little pieces when nobody else is there. They could be smiling and laughing with you, but also crying and feeling the constant pain they feel everyday once they are alone. If you’ve said anything to hurt and neglect another person. I know sometimes it can be difficult to admit what you’ve done and apologize, but know that it is and always will be the right thing to do.

I think the big idea of this video is that, looking at a person's downsides is something you don't want to remind yourself of, you should look at the upsides, their usefulness the thing that makes them nice, not look down to people but look up to them instead.

The video “To This Day” is about how bullying affects people. I think that the big idea to the video is to not make fun of someone. Everyone is special and has a purpose in life. if you make fun of them for who they are, then your words would affect their lives. Bullying could cause someone to hate themselves and live miserably. Some people make fun of people because they want to be popular and some people are just mean. Overall, bullying is bad, and you shouldn’t do it.

i think the big idea of the video is to show that any colour, culture and gender is acceptable. It is to show to be kind to one another because every mean thing you say to someone can really hurt them. its much easier if you punch someone instead of saying mean stuff because for the punch the bruise will go away but for words they always stay inside you and when you think of them you will clearly hear the words echoing inside you. the words really scar you inside, a scar that can't be erased ever in your life. I'm saying this from experience because a lot of people say they are just words get over it but its more than that. Whenever your about to say something pause and think about it a million times and ask yourself is this a good thing to say. i've got bullied and teased for lots of things but its happened so many times that i learned a new way to handle it. Listen from one ear and take it out of the other. Thats the best solution but its not so simple. It takes courage and bravery to get over something like bullying. Even if you say it as a joke please think about the words and the other person your going to say it to. PLEASE STOP THE BULLYING!

Bullying can be serious sometimes, and the To This Day project is spreading the message. The video says that when people have nowhere to go that doesn't have people that make your self-esteem lower than it already is, it can lead to depression and suicide. That's why it is important to know when the joke goes too far. The video says that many kids get depressed by things that are meant to be jokes, but hurt their feelings in ways that some people can't understand. Some of those kids end up killing themselves, or at least trying. Overall, the video's message is to: if you're a victim, keep trying; eventually you'll get through, and if you're a bully, think about what you say before you say it.

Have you ever watched the video "To This Day"? Well, this video talks about how we should treat one another and to be supportive, open minded, awesome and respectful. For example, if you ever see anybody sad or getting bullied. You can walk up to them and ask them what happen can I help help you? Just doing these simple stuff can help he/she feel way better. But if you are the person betting bullied, you can tell a close friend or family what your struggling with and maybe they can help you solve your problem. One way that I learned from my experiences is kind of ignoring what they are saying and just be yourself. For me, I think the big idea of this video is treat others the way you want to be treated!

So, the big idea of the video? Well it is pretty simple since Mr.Hong literally said the video is about not judging other people based on what they are, what they look like, what they are like. So, thats the big idea? Well certainly! But allow me to tell you more., The meaning of judging people is like, being mean to them for what they are because they are not like you, but no one should be like that because....Whats the point? At the end of the day we are all humans working together to achieve the same goal: to be accomplished, so why are people racist and sexist? Because they are losers. They are suckers that are mean because they are not successful they try to make other people's life bad. So what can we do about it? Protest? No even if we protest its useless. Do something about it? Well, DUH! So how can we do something about it? We can stand up for ourselves prove to them that even tho we are a different race or a different sex we an still achieve the same goals!

If you just cant help but make other people feel bad what can you do? Ask a teacher/parent/therapist for help or just stay away from people you dont feel comfortable with! But why cant you be nice to the eople you think are weird? Well i think its because of how proud you are. Maybe you think your race is the bet and your race is smarter but the truth is, your wrong! All races have things in common and things they are better then other races at like, maybe asians have higher average IQ and Black men have higher stamina and white people have better thinking as in democracy, we need eachother to survive in this world of war, people and coutries fight and there is nothing we can do about it except for staying safe and tell your leaders that you dont want to fight anymore i mean, whats the point of fighting? Fighting is just another way of letting out anger but why are we angry? Because we dont get what we want or because we are just not happy? Well i dont know! But if you know the answer to some of my questions tell me! I am actually relieved that we have no criteria since if we do im gonna rage again hahahah!

“Do things for people not because of who they are or for what they do in return, but because of who you are.” Bullying is unacceptable! People say mean things thinking it is a joke, but really you remember everything because you remember it hurt you. People say “sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt”. I completely disagree with this quote because sadly most people will remember something mean someone said and believe it for a long time but forget the nice things. Honestly I don’t get bullied at this school but I always think people think badly of me and I want to be good enough. People need to know that they are perfect as they are. Obviously no one is perfect but don’t change yourself for what others think. The video we watched to day was so good but it made me emotional. People should never be treated in that way. It hurts that people close to me feel like this and I can’t do anything about it. It feels like you can never fix sadness but you need to hope. If you are being bullied make sure to talk to someone and don’t think it is your fault because it is not they are not telling the truth. Your life is so precious so take care of it.

To This Day, kids are still called names. This video is trying to get this point across. Kids at school get called names lots, and sometimes those kids that are victims, no longer believe in themselves. They spend the rest of their lives believing what they were told. That they were ugly or stupid etc. In this video we get to see what happens when people get called names for all the time they are in school. We are lucky at our school, that this doesn't happen much. This is why Pink Shirt Day was created. To stop this bullying. To This Day kids still haven't learned their lesson. BULLYING IS NOT OKAY.

Do you have any personal problems? I think everyone does whether that's depressed, anxiety, doubts or any other situation you might be in. To this day, people call other people names. To this day, you will always find yourself saying mean things, even if you think it's harmless. When you call someone a name, (stupid, loser, idiot, etc) it will affect their thoughts, even if it was harmless in your mind, it might be extremely hurtful to the other person. Nobody is safe from being called names. You can be called a simp or an idiot without thinking about it much but, it can happen so much. A lot. I think the BI of this video is that words can hurt even more than you think it can. It can sometimes hurt even more than physical pain. That's my opinion but I hope you well with any problems you have <3

Bullying is a serious issue that must be addressed. In the poem "To This Day", Shane Koyczan states many reasons of why bullying is a terrible thing. The big idea of the poem is that every single one of us is beautiful, and that we must remember that at all times, even when we are getting bullied. The examples in the video show that even simple words can scar someone for the entire duration of their life. Personally, I don't think that I've ever been bullied before, neither do I think that I'm a bully myself. Some things that I've done before are questionable, but I realize my mistakes to stop making the same mistakes. Overall, the poem had many strong points that would either motivate people or make people question their actions.

What is climate change? Many wonders what is climate change, so today I will be telling you.

Climate change is a problem going on that’s affecting the entire world. Climate change is when the everything gets hotter. We are currently experiencing climate change. If this goes on, then they’ll be more fires, there will be more flood and in the arctic animals will suffer, including polar bears, seals, penguins, etc. Climate change is a danger to some animals. Things like pollution, greenhouse gases, burning more fossil fuel, cutting down forest, etc. Some of you are wondering why all this may be happening? Well mostly because people want money, people want to collect more wood and build more places to sell. Though all this sounds like the end of the world, we still have a chance. We still have a chance to turn things around, maybe not that long but we can still do it. So, for all you people at home reading this, I want you to buy better bulbs, reduce your food waste, and don’t use the car when it's not necessary. We can do this!

I think the big idea is that we should understand the backstory of people and understand them of their personality before judging them of their outside . I have a couple of reasons why. We've all heard of "don't judge a book by its cover", so why are we judging people of their covers and their looks. Yes, maybe its a book and a this saying only talks about the outside not the inside. Here's a connection though. Some books have minority groups and LGBTQ2+ people as characters, We don't discriminate against these characters but we discriminate against the people. This video talks about the impacts that society makes when we are judging a person by their looks. This can cause a lot of pain towards the people and that'll make society very much more divided. So that was my big idea, My personal opinions and some reasons to support my claim.

You should be kind to be everyone. Not bully someone. Bulling is still happening and the video, To This Day, by Shane Koyczan, is a video how people who got bullied spend their lives. You shouldn't judge by a person's looks, because they are also all humans and if you say a mean thing to them, it might hurt them for the rest of their lives. Maybe they might not be able to belive in their self because of the mean words that comes from others. For this video, I think the big idea is that you should not be mean to someone because it might hurt them for the rest of their lives.

Words can hurt. When someone calls you a name and you are not confident about yourself you can take it deep. Which is why individuals should care for each other instead of insult each other. Bullies may not bully for self enjoyment, they can be struggling too. However, bullying is something one shouldn't do anyways. Which is why I think the main idea of this video is to think about other people and accept that yourself is beautiful.
