Tuesday: 5 Kingdoms of Life Presentations

Division 4 students started presenting their work on the 5 Kingdoms of Life today. They came up with their own criteria for what makes a good presentation and prepared for it based on these points. The presentations have been impressive so far and we are all looking forward to seeing the rest of them tomorrow. We have seen a variety of different mediums. Some have created posters, some have created digital presentations, and some have done both. The students love having the choice to create

1.) MATH 6 - Complete all worksheets from class today.
MATH 7 - Pg 104-105 Questions #1-5 and 8-10

2.) SCIENCE - All students who have yet to present will do so tomorrow.

3.) WRITE A RESPONSE: After seeing the presentations today, some of you may feel as though you have to work on a few different areas. If you presented today, you may also feel that you could have done something else to have made your presentation better today. Please post at least 3 things that you will work on tomorrow when you are presenting and if you presented today, post 3 things that you will work on to improve your presentation next time. Remember, don't forget to include a brief reason on how you will improve in each areas.

First, since this seems to be a contest around here.

I want to work on how fast I talk, because I tend to speak fairly quick, I also want to just add some more facts and lastly add things no one else did :3

Firstly, when Im presenting tomorrow Im gonna work on my eye contact. Secondly Im gonna work on my speaking because sometimes i go fast and then I say words wrong. Thirdly Im gonna work on speaking loud because I get nervous and I don't speak loud.

Firstly, I will work on my voice level and my eye contact with my fellow class mates because when I practice at home I heard that my voice level needs to be louder and I need to look at my q cards less. Secondly, I will work on my body posture and use hand gestures to point to certain areas on my presentation. Lastly, I will work on speaking clearly so very one can hear me when I am speaking.

Firstly, I will work on my eye contact. I have chosen to work on his because usually when I'm presenting something to an audience I usually get a bit nervous and make eye contact very minimal times.

Secondly, I will work on my voice level because when I was in grade 6 I did a rock presentation on volcanoes and most of the feedback I got said I should increase my volume.

Lastly, I will work on using gestures to engage the audience and to make it seem like I'm not nervous even though I am.

Things I would've changed during my presentation:

1.) I would have spoken more clearly and more loud
2.) I could add more details I forgot to talk about like how the thing that makes plants green are cells called chloroplasts.
3.) I would have engaged and interacted more with the audience like asking for examples from people.

Tomorrow when I present I will make sure I....
1. I will make sure that I make eye contact
2. I will also be sure to speak clear and at a good pace
3. And last I will make sure that I am not just reading everything right from the project.

1. I will try to work on actually memorizing the information I know about the kingdoms.
2. I will also try to work on my body language and gestures.

Points to grow on:

1) try not to talk as fast - take a breather at the end of each sentance
2) try not to look at the flash cards as much - this is not a read out loud session - just present the highlights of the information
3) be more engaging to the audience - encourage them to be interactive

This was an intresting experience. I will be a good audience member tomorrow.

I had a fun time presenting today, even though I was a bit nervous. I also just wanted to say thanks to everyone for such positive feedback! It really made me less nervous!

Some things I could work on in the future are confidence, voice, and summarizing.

Firstly, I would work on confidence in my speaking. The reason why I would do this, is because I kept looking at my index cards. I felt I had looked at my index cards a little bit, even when I didn't even have to just because I wasn't that confident. I think I can achieve this next time by practicing at home, without my index cards a few times.
Secondly, I would work on making my voice clearer. The reason I would do this, is because I felt as though I stumbled a few words, and mispronounced them because I was so nervous. I would also work on projecting my voice so everyone can hear it loud and clear. I think I can achieve this next time by working on my voice levels at home. I would also speak in the living room, and if anyone in my family heard me from downstairs I would know that I spoke loud enough.
Thirdly, I would work on summarizing my information a little better. I’m not sure if anyone else thought this, but I tried to fit all the facts I could with the time crunch. Like I said in the beginning of my presentation, I wanted everyone to get a deeper understanding for the five kingdoms. I think the way I can achieve this next time is by going over my work many more times than I did, to actually get all the necessary facts up there.
Overall, I had fun learning about the five kingdoms, and hearing the presentations of my fellow classmates.

Tomorrow I will...

Firstly I will try to do eye contact, if you don't the audience will lose your attention.

Secondly, I will try to use hand gestures. I will use hand gestures because it'll give us good marks, as well a better "look".

Thirdly and lastly, I will use a clear, strong voice. Last year, Mr. Austin (http://hillcrestdiv6.weebly.com) had a speech fest. I did it on Steve Jobs, I talked so horrible, I bet no one in the back heard me, I got a C+ in that assignment, I wasn't happy with myself. So this time, I will try as hard as I can.

1.) Work on not rushing my voice. Because the end of the day was coming and I did not want to stay too late. But next time I will make sure I will not rush.

2.) Engaging my audience more. Next time I am going to use a lot more hand actions. Also, I can give questions to my viewers to engage them into my project.

3.) Make sure I will not miss anything. Because today I acidentally missed a few facts about the 5 Kingdoms. Next time I will make sure I will not miss any information that I was supposed to put.

I will try to make myself loud so every one can hear. I will use eye contact so that im not just staring at my project. And I will try to use hand gestures and move around so im not just standing still.

First of all, I don't want to sound harsh on myself so I'll first tell what I think I did good on. Looking at the peer assessment, it seems like I delivered a good tone of voice. When I was up in front of the class I tried to put out my voice to the whole class. Secondly, something I wish I would of done was have more humor and enthusiasm. To be honest when I'm talking with someone or my friends and family I do that. But for some reason when when I'm doing a speech or a presentation in front of a group of people I never use any of those. So that's definitely something that I will work on. Thirdly, most of you probably noticed that I was talking quite fast, I think that is probably because I wanted to just finish it and also because I was very nervous and I thought I literally had butterfly flying in my stomach! Fourthly, another thing that I would change if I could on today's presentation would probably be my confidence and the engagement I had with the class. I felt like I was not being confident in myself and thinking that I was going to stumble and mess up. Next time I will try my best to engage with my audience more. Lastly, I had a great time although there were a couple of things that I feel I could of done better, I honestly don't regret one second of my presentation!

In my opinion i think I should work on looking up more and not reading so much off of my qu-cards/notes because almost everyone else memorised what they were going to say. Also I think i could have a more enthusiastic voice tone because i thought i wasn't that engaging because almost everyone else was having different tones in their voices. Lastly i added two of the same images so maybe i could take one away and draw a different image.
