Japanese Taiko Drum

Today, the students had an opportunity to watch the younger students at Hillcrest perform a Japanese story and also perform on the taiko drums. Click here to see an example of a famous taiko drumming group from Japan. It takes a great deal of strength and athletic ability to perform on a taiko drum. Much practice and training goes into learning how to do taiko drumming.

1.) LA / NOVEL APPROACH:

Your powerful response is due on Thursday. Be sure to incorporate one or two of your thinking and learning questions and responses into your essay. I will be looking for this when I read through your responses.

2.) FIELD TRIP:

We will depart Hillcrest before recess at 10:15am.
NO WATER GUNS.
Bring any sports equipment you would like to play with at the park (tennis rackets, footballs, frisbees, etc.)
Do not bring lunch tomorrow as hot dogs, chips, and drinks will be provided.
Bring sunscreen and a water bottle.

3.) POST A RESPONSE:

At the park I will likely lounge around unless water weapons are allowed then I will dominate in a watergun fight with friends.

The thing I will miss most about hillcrest will be the books Mr.Hong suggests to me.

My most memorable learning experience this year was doing an essay on freakonomics, I highly suggest the book to anyone who likes interesting facts with a cool twist.

I didn't enjoy the strike at the beginning of the year because it limited how much learning we did in the first term and made the teachers need to rush to finish the neccecary work.

I am looking forward to high school next year although there is no recess outdoors but there are much more sports teams and there are clubs which I want to join.

I am probably going to hang out with my friends and play soccer and I WAS going to plan to take water guns and have a huge water fight but apparently not -_-, .

I am going to miss Hillcrest in many ways but I am going to miss it most because I won't be able to see all my friends and learn to scientific things and STEM but I am happy to take a break and maybe go finish my apps because with school it takes a long time. I also want to make a movie with my friends. But it's good that I'm going to be at Hillcrest for 1 more year (I hope I get you again Mr. Hong)

My most memorable learning experience this year at school was starting tp code. These valuebale skills can take be a long way and I can't wait till my programs to come out for the world to see. This learning experience can be the start to many and what do you know? It could end up taking me so far that you would soon see the Opticode opti-watch or the Opti-Holo. All these things are idea's now but soon they could be reality.

I was upset how the strike lasted long I mean it could of lasted a bit less because in all that time we lost learning time and collaborating time if their was no strike we might of had extra time to do work because it is not like we are trying so hard to finish up everything.

I am going to look forward to next year and have my last year at Hillcrest. I am also looking forward to making more programs and seeing how my apps do. I hope I can make it rain ;-) I am looking forward to doing more science like electronics and all these stuff and I really want to do a genius hour project and also learn business concepts and make real products that students can invest in with real money and then we can do a sort of young entrepreneurs show/investment conference. That'll be really cool because we can be like those investors and dragons den and shark tank but mini versions!

1. At the park I'm going to play tag and soccer with my friends and also play in the water. I was also planning to have a water fight but were not aloud to bring water guns.
2. I won't miss anything at Hillcrest but the grade 7 of course.
3. The most memorable thing I have is when everybody laughed in the class because of my laugh.
4. I enjoyed the most with the grade 7's because they gave me a different way to enjoy myself.
5. To graduate from grade 7 and have the same freedom they have.

Well, at the park I was really looking forward to doing a little water fight in the burning hot sun, but now I guess I'd just hangout, maybe play with my frisbee disc with others and some other things. Maybe play soccer. I hope that BBQ won't get burned though or else I don't think anyone would eat that!

Over the summer, I'd think I'd miss those good times I've had over the past 8 years since I was here since kindergarten. But lets hope I could have space in my brain to carry all those extra memories I can try to keep. I also will miss my old friends but I will make new friends in my new school I'd be going to in September. It's not Clayton Heights, it's not Tweetsmire, it's a middle school called Yorkson Creek. Hopefully when I get to high school I could probably see Omar again!

What I thought was a great learning experience this year was the Grouse Grind, well that's also including last year's hike. You never get the opportunity to hike a really high mountain in other elementary schools, not that I know of, it's also a great workout for all those unfit kids that are really lazy and sluggish at everything.

What I didn't enjoy this year was sports day. Most students think that sports day is always rigged. And this year it seems like it was for sure! Looking at green team's grade 7's for the tug a war was unfair. It seemed like 10 grads vs. 15 blacks, or 35 reds or 40 blues. Blue had all the people this year and green had none of the people this year. I really hope in the future sports day would be evened out so none of it wouldn't be unfair to everyone.

What I'm looking forward to next year is middle school. I always wanted to see how it's like going to one and yet here I am preparing to experience my last year at middle school. Middle school only has grade 6, 7 and 8 in it and the other elementary schools are from pre-school to 5. The reason why they made a middle school was because of R.E. Mountain Secondary school starting at grade 9.

I think that I will play badminton with my friends or soccer with Antia or Brooke. I can play with others too and I am looking forward to it!

I loved my experience at such a great elementary school because of all the things I have learned so I am ready for high school. I also think that the things I have done over the eight years at Hillcrest almost seemed like adventures one after the other. I always had the problem of not following the criteria sometimes and I will always feel like I am leaving a chunk of my life behind. I love you Hillcrest! I also am grateful for all the teachers I have been with and hope that they teach new kids for years to come as well as they did for me. I have to say that the one adventure I remember the most is when I had liked a girl in my class when I was little and she sent Connor after me when I ran away and then Connor caught up to me and then they pinned me to the ground. Good times huh? I will always remember to keep in touch with Mr.Hong by writing stories on google drive and sharing them with him. If your interested please tell me tomorrow or before school ends and I would be glad to share some with you! :3 I would love to do that!

The one thing I didn't enjoy this year was that I had to leave to high school at the end of the year. I will miss this school very much.

I will look forward to moving on and becoming a teenager! I will enjoy going to Clayton with my fellow grade 7's gladly.

I will not get over this easily as I would over math that's for sure! :3

I hope you guys all have a great summer break and hope you don't get any math over the summer!

Tomorrow at the park I will probably just hang out with my friends. I personally dont think I will miss anything from hillcrest on summer vacation. One thing I have learned is to do my homework or there will be consiquences. This year I did not enjoy all of Socials, Science, Novel approach, P.E, L.A and homework. I also did not enjoy having to get up early in the mornings and eating stupid food for lunch instead of a nice home meal, also I did not like how we didnt do any drama. I am looking forwards to finaly going into highschool and meeting new people from didferent schools.

Tomorrow at the park Im going to play soccer with my friends. I am also going to play tennis with my mom and any others that would like to join us. And, if there are any other sports I can play, I would like to give them a try.

I will miss all the smiles on peoples faces when I walk through the Hillcrest halls. I will also miss all my Grade 7 friends because they won't be a Hillcrest for my year of Grade 7. They will beginning their journey into High School. One last thing I will miss is rejects. I know this sounds weird but I like setting my mind to something.

The most merle thing that happened to me this year was completing the Grouse Grind. I had never done the Grouse Grind before so it was a very big accomplishment to me.

I did not enjoy the strike because it set back a lot of things. For example, because of the strike the soccer teams got canceled. Also, for the first term there was a lot of rushing to get things done and that was a little chaotic.

I look forward to becoming a Grade 7 and a role model for the Grade 6's that will becoming in to Mr. Hong's class. Another thing I look forward to is making new friends with the Grade 6's because I have a lot of friendships with Grade 7's and that made me have a good year so I want to do that with Grade 6's and welcome them into our class.

I will probably play some Base Ball with some people, hang around with friends eat the BBQ. I will maybe play a game of tag.
The thing I will miss the most will be not seeing everyone everyday at school. I will not see the Grade 7's anymore, well some of them. my most memorable learning experience was learning how to write a powerful reprocess. The thing I did not like the most was not seeing the Grade 7's. I will look forward to being a grade 7 next year.

1.) Tomorrow at the park I am planning on just hanging out with my friends and relaxing. We might play some sports but mostly relaxing.

2.) The thing that I will miss most about Hillcrest is all the fun school events like Sports Day, Terry Fox Run, Fun Night, and The Monster Mash.

3.) The most memorable moment that I had at Hillcrest was when I won the rugby trophy and Mr.Jones gave a really nice speech about me.

4.) This year I didn't enjoy learning about reading strategies. To be honest, they didn't really help me learn because I was already aware of them before I was taught.

5.) The one thing that I'm looking forward to next year is high school.

Tomorrow, at the park I will mostly be sitting with my friends just talking and having fun. I don’t think I will play any games because I would rather just socialize with my friends. Honestly, I will not miss anything about Hillcrest. Except for maybe snack time. The most memorable learning experience for me was learning about extreme environments.I didn’t really enjoy the novel approach stuff cause I think we should be aloud to just read and understand it the way we want to. I’m looking forward to the classes next year. It will be easier for me because I know the exact classes i’m doing for the day.

Tomorrow at the park I will probably play soccer with friends in other classes. I will only miss not seeing my friends everyday at school. The thing I will miss the least is post a response 😃. The best thing I learned was how to write an essay. Im looking forward to sitting on the grade 7 benches next year :P.

@Everyone, how school today again? I see that you guys went to watch a drumming show! That was probably a lot of fun! Yes? No? Today, I stayed home again since my head needed some rest, but I am going to school tommorow YAY! And guess what? Today, It was the day when I went to the BC place Staduim in Vancouver to watch the FIFA Womens World Cup 2015 Canada match U.S.A vs Nigeria. Infact, I have so much things to tell you guys but firstly, I had a great time! I almost fainted because, I saw all of my favorite soccer players like Abby Wambach, Alex Morgan, and so much more! With this in mind, the game was really fun because, there were 52,678 people in the staduim cheering for the U.S, we sang many cheers for U.S and we did the wave! And guess what! When it was almost half time at 43:10 the first goal came to the U.S, Abby Wambach scores by a perfect volley shooting it in the corner of the net! After then, all of the people there, jumped and cheered on! On the other hand, there was 2 yellow cards and 1 red card for Nigeria ;-( And to tell you, we took the sky train to get there and back, while I was being squished like a tomato. However, I was also on TV! I was wearing my U.S gear! Above all, that was my favorite day and the best birthday present! And now U.S is going to the round of 16!

I think tomorrow I'm going to relax and have fun. What I'm going to miss the most about Hillcrest over the summer is all the great memories I made in Gr. 6 and my grade 7 friends. My most memorable learning experirence was doing the Grouse Grind (for the third time) and beating my time. What I did not enjoy this year was the Grouse Grind because it was horrible and awful and bad and terrible. And I'm looking foward to being the oldest in the school.

1.) What are you going to do at the park tommorow? Well firstly, since I can't play any sports nor allowed to run, this means that I could either be a goalie if there is going to be a soccer game, I could play a calm game of frisbee, or I could technically play any sport I want if I walk only. I hope I wont faint again from walking! However, Im also really exited for the BBQ tommorow because, I have so much things to talk about to you guys!

2.) Secondly, what will you miss about Hillcrest over the summer? Well to start, I will probably miss on how much fun I had being in Grade 7, having an awsome and a funny teacher, being a polite student, and having many chances to improve my soccer skills as well as, being a student that had participated in many sports in Grade 7. With this in mind, I will also miss Hillcrest because, many people supported me by always saying nice things about me especially Brooke!

3.) Thirdly, what was the most memorable thing for you this year? Well to start, the most memorable thing that has happened to me this year, is when I got picked to got the the finals for the public speaking speech competition. Another, is when I broke my record for climbing the Grouse Mountain in just 49 minutes and being the first girl to reach the peak!

4.) Now what have I not enjoyed this year? Well, to start, I didnt enjoy on how we didnt play much sports this year instead we mostly played dodge ball many times for P.E. However, dodge ball is still fun, its just that I got sad because, that is what we mostly did for P.E.

5.) Lastly, next year, im looking forward into going to Grade 8 because, I have many things I want to do like, having a chance to play every single sport, and having a chance to succed at all subjects. Im also looking forward into going to try out for the BCSPL league for Fraser Valley High Performance.

At the park I was excited to have a water fight with all my friends but that's not happening which makes me very sad😞 So instead I will probably lay on the grass and talk with my friends do stuff like that.

The only thing I'm going to miss from Hillcrst is not seeing my friends everyday. That's all.

Honestly I don't remember much "learning" this year. Mostly because I just didn't care. (Sorry Mr. Hong)

I did not enjoy Novel Approach, PAR, not doing drama, editing and reversing and school in reneral. This reason is I feel like school puts to much pressure on kids they are always worried about there grades. Apparently it is a bad thing not to worry about your grades because then you don't care. Also I find school wipes out your individuality. When I get so much feedback on my essay and stuff it feels like it is not my work anymore and it looks like everybody elses.

I'm looking forward to high school next year because I think it would be a change and I feel like I need a change.

What will you miss about Hillcrest over the summer?

-I think I will always miss Hillcrest because all of the teachers have been amazing to me even the ones that haven't taught me.

-I think my most memorable learning experience was switching math classes. The reason for this is because we got to learn with a handful of teachers instead of just one.

- I didn't really like when we all got together in the group at the beginning of the year, i think that next year you should teach it individually.

Don't really know what I'm gonna do but maybe hang out with some of my friends and play some games at the park.

What I would miss about Hillcrest is all the teachers. I've been in Hillcrest since kindergarten and it is awesome to see my friends grown up and going to grade 8. I couldn't have made it this far from my family. They believed in me and wanted to be in high school. I will miss all the times I had at recess and lunch. I would always Hang out with the same people and now I'm not gonna see them a again because I'm going to a different school now. The last thing I'm gonna mis is me laughing in class making my good friends. I also couldn't have done it without them because they always put smiles on my face. Even if we get hurt or bullied we always have each others backs. I will miss school.

The memorable thing would be me getting picked for the basketball team. I didn't get picked in grade 6 but in grade 7 I stepped up my game and tryed to make the team. That goal got achieved I made the team and I got to have fun on the basketball court. The other memorable thing would be beating my time on the grouse grind. I got 57 minutes. My best time. The last thing I will always remember are my teachers. They got me to be who I am. I am now going to grade 8 which makes me so happy. My teachers are best and I would thank them for what they did to make me successful.

What I did not enjoy about this year was doing homework everyday. It really stressed me out because I don't have any of the time to do my work. So I would always have to it late at night and sometimes in the morning when I wake up and that gets me late. Speaking of waking up I did not enjoy waking so early to get ready for school. When I wake up it is really hard to keep my eyes open. And to move my feet. The last thing I didn't enjoy was not participating in any sports. I was to tired to join and I was in pain so I had couldn't do any sports. But basketball was only sport I enjoyed so I was really focused on that.

I'm looking forward to going in high school because I get to learn new things and make new friends. I will also look forward to coming to Hillcrest and helping out the new grade 6 and 7's. It would cool to see new grade 7's. Also looking forward to joining sports in high school. I want to participate more in high school so I can have fun.

I will probably not do any think at the park because no water guns and water guns are super fun and if we don't have them there is nothing to do.what I will miss about hillcrest is our class because it is the best and I never want to go back. I will miss the class it was the best class ever.The most memorable thing I have earned is to plug it in plug it in plug it in. I learn how to plug in number. I loved every thing I did not hate any thing. What I look forward to next year is the groups and the amazing sports.

The most memorable learning thing was probably how we switch classes for math because it gave us an opportunity to get to know the teachers and that in high school you will need to switch classes too. This year I didn't enjoy that we got a lot of homework and also that the blog was put up on Sundays which made it harder for me to do it. Next year I will look forward to join band so that I can learn another musical instrument and be able to perform for the school.
