Gymnastics

Today, students brainstormed a list of ideas they will be researching in order to create content for their infographics. They will be finding reliable statistics by differentiating through different types of information. They will use a critical eye to find the most appropriate and reliable statistics for their projects. They received their criteria sheets today, which were based on the points they came up with in class yesterday. The students will blow full steam ahead with their research tomorrow!

1.) POST A RESPONSE:

We reviewed reliable sources of information in class today and discussed that it is not necessary to go over all of the points outlined on the C.R.A.A.P. reliability test. There were several main points that could just as easily help us identify the reliability of information.
Click on this link and give at least 3 reasons why you believe this link to be reliable or unreliable. Try to come up with reasons other students have yet to mention.
Alternatively, you can click on this video link and do the same as above.
Be sure to provide supporting sentences and do not simply state something like, "It is unreliable because it does not end with .com." Provide more evidence and be sure to explain each point in detail.
If you want to review the C.R.A.A.P. reliability test, click here. This will give you ideas that probably haven't been mentioned on the site yet.
Ask 2 students questions about their posts.
Respond to any questions/comments/feedback you receive.

@ Gooner, you need to explain in more detail even though you have background knowledge on it explain why you think it's not real. Re read the P.A.R you missed a lot of things you need to incorporate into your post.

I think this is not real because of two reasons. One because when you go on the website it looks un professional. Another thing is that if you look at the website creator he stats weird things about holes in the world and weird animals and people singing. Another reason why I know this isn't real is because I have background knowledge from last year. We did the same post and found out it wasn't real.

This is source is not reliable. First because it looks like a five year old designed it my evidence for that is why would, a professional design his website like game unless it is a game with green words and a black background. Second I've never ever heard of a tree octopus evidence the octopus looks fake and the tree looks like a fake plastic tree. Third theirs a poster picture at the bottom that looks like a five year olds horror book or movie. Evidence at he bottom it says posters motivate citizenary to action! Post them!

I think this link about the "tree octopus"' is unreliable because, I know that all octopuses live in the water/ sea. I know this because I learnt many things about the animal kingdoms. Secondly, I think this link about the "tree octopus" is unreliable because, I looked on the sightings of the "tree octopus" and I just saw a big blue octopus toy. Thirdly, I think this link about the "tree octopus" is unreliable because, I know that they used a picture from Google to put it in a forest picture to make it look real. Fourthly, I know that this link is unreliable because it doesn't look professional; it looks like a child created this site. Lastly, I think this link is unreliable because it was last updated in 2014.

FAKE! FAKE,FAKE,FAKE! THis is ridiculous and it's a perfect example of to NOT trust everything you see on the internet. lets take this apart step by step. first of all I could tell because octopuses live and breath water, they wouldn't be able to survive on land let alone in the snow. Next I can tell its fake because most of the pictures they show are terrible examples of how to photoshop. another reason is because it says somthing about they steal dollar bills and turn them into nests. They aren't freaking bird pickpockets! Next, Science! P.S. i did some research. The pressure in the veins and arteries of an octopus is very high in order to live in the high pressures of the deep sea.above water, a octopus would have extreme bleeding internally!
lastly, I will point out that with further research (that was not needed) Proves my point about you can't trust everything you see!

Why is that like unreliable you ask? I double checked with websitethat "The Pacific Northwest Tree Octopus" is an internet hoax.(Hoax is another word for practical joke) Also I have searched the definition of "the Pacific Northwest tree octopus" and it clearly states it was used in internet literacy, but not "created" for that reason. link to website:http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pacific_Northwest_tree_octopus

I do not believe the website is reliable because:
The website name ends in ".net"
The "rare photo" was drawn/animated
And Finnaly it is not real because not only could I not find it on a reliable website but I found a Wikipedia page saying it is an Internet hoax since 1998

Well... this website looks very odd. There is a joke in the corner unprofesional which I thing makes it unreliable. However I may be wrong because you need to have proof to
back up your thoughts.

So to give my "proof" I will back it up with another website...
So I have done this now and I see that apperently this is a "hoax" or in other terms a "myth". Apperently this is very odd with the website listing the facts very well.

Another thing I noticed is that the website was made using html not weebly or any website maker. So when its using html they have all the power they do not have restrictions to stuff, however I am aware you can use html is weebly but some times it doesn't work.

So what do you think?
Of course as I mentioned that this may be real but I doubt it. But you can go and find the littlest of all details to find if its reliable or not, even in the address bar.

It is Fake it looks like it was made by a 2 year old when I checked another website it was all fake information #1 octopuses have to live in the water they can not survive on land #2 they are not all true facts on the website #3 it dose not say when it was last updated

The tree octopus is real I've seen one riding a unicorn fending its nest of from magical saskwach lizard hybrids (sarcasim). The tree octopus is fake because it has never been documented outside of the internet. It has also never been in any documentarys and if it was discovered it would be in many places other than the internet. There is no reliable source with any information on this animal. There is no talk of this animal by any known nature documenter. There is no news about this animal at all besides a few youtube videos and a website for people that believe it is real and have been fooled by the realisim in the video. If this animal was real, lots of reliable sources would have info on it.

I think its unreliable because:
1) If it did exist I would have known about it I also know octopus can only survive half an hour out of the water.
2) The website looks really unprofessional because of the thing in the top right corner and In the language section emojian isn't a language so if that's not true than the website is probably a big lie.
3) I checked another website that said the tree octopus was an internet hoax.

Also for the video the octopus was just fading away and I have seen tons of videos where they use that effect to make it look cool.

This is an article us Grade 7's have read about last year, and you could clearly state that this website is unreliable. Why?
- There are no such things as tree octopuses, it is also scientifically proven to be a false myth.

- If there were such things, then why didn't anyone else experience seeing one of these rare tree octopuses?

- Octopuses can barely survive out of water, they must have pulled out an orange looking octopus from the ocean, put it on the branches of a pine tree, and snapshot it.

Also comparing to the video, I know that some octopuses can camoflauge, as a matter of fact some octopuses are the king of camoflauge, but since there is no proof of this tree octopus, the video was a photoshop joke, they can't camoflauge out of water unless they have some water with them so they don't dehydrate.

I think this source is unreliable because...

1) The "tree octopus's" predators include the bald eagle and the SASQUATCH!

2) I search up if the tree octopus is real and according to Wikipedia it is a internet hoax.

The following are my three points to prove that this link is not reliable. Octopus live in the ocean and not in the forest. I used my background knowledge about how octopus can only survive outside of the ocean for half an hour. Also there were other random pictures not related to octopus and this link is supposed to be about Octopus. Then I noticed it did not look professional because all pictures looked fake. The other link I looked up said that the forest octopus was a hoax.

I did my post on the video and I do not believe that it is real. My first reason is that there is no speech or explanation for what the tree octopus was doing. It had no support on how it was doing what it was doing. Secondly, it looks like whoever made the video used special effects. I see a lot of videos where there are just as good special effects. Third and finally, I have never seen anything on this 'tree octopus' other than this video and the website.

The website was not reliable because how it's designed and octopuses belong in the ocean. Also I took a close look at the pictures and there was only one picture of an octopus in a tree. That could be a fake octopus. Octopuses could only get oxygen in the water like fish. Also octopuses can't survive as long outside of the water.

In some videos like that they could be trying to trick us. They could be trying to make it real.

I think tree octopus is not real because first, there is no other reliable source about tree octopus. If tree octopus was real, there would be many reliable sources about it. Second, octopus can not live outside of the water which means they can not live in the tree. Last, in the video it looked like someone added octopus and tree together so that it looks like there are actually tree octopus.

"TOTALLY FAKE!" I think this is fake because, there are no links on this website to take you to a different one, and there are not many websites about them. Octopus can not live outside of the water which means they can not live in the trees. Also, it looks totally photo shopped into the video because the second leg from the right, half of it was gone.

I think this website is not reliable because one it does not look professional it does not have other links sporting it. One other thing is i check on Google and there was no such things as tree octopuses. My last reason is that sea animals can't live on the land and it can't blend in that well.

I think that website is not reliable because it doesn't say that website is made by professor or scientists, and they said that octopus is not in endangered animals but they emphasized to protect that octopus.

I think that video is not reliable too because it is looks like computer graphic,and it is impossible that animal can make their body transparent when they appeared their body. Of course, I think it's real! Yeah no, I think that this is totally fake, why? Well, because at the bottom of the page it said that the page is not associated with any educational organizations but it was created by a university. Pages created by universities can have some false information if they aren't researched well enough. Also from background knowledge, octopuses can't survive with water since that is what they are adapted to. That is why I think it is fake.

Three reasons I think it is not realiable are

1.) No evidence of where the information was gotten.
2.) There's no evidence on google about tree octopus.
3.) There are no sources or other links to other website about this animal.
