TUESDAY: Poetic Devices

Today, students dove deeper into poetry and learned several new poetic devices. They learned about alliteration and personification and then created their own poems (free-verse) while incorporating the poetic devices they have learned so far. The students were able to easily create their poems while using their new poetic devices to create poetry.

1.) MATH 6:

UNIT TEST TOMORROW!
Complete your unit review, mark and correct your work!
Watch the relevant review videos if you need extra review.

MATH 7:

Worksheet and two questions. Refer to your teacher's website. Quiz tomorrow.
Watch the relevant review videos if you need extra review.

2.) LA/ART: Work on your Roy Lichtenstein inspired artwork.

3.) POST A RESPONSE:

Today, you created your own poems while incorporating several poetic devices (IE Alliteration, personification, and onomatopoeia).
Create a 'FREE-VERSE' poem that is meaningful to you.
You must include all three poetic devices you have learned about.
Identify the poetic device by listing it in (brackets) at the end of each sentence that includes one.
You may include as many lines or as little lines as you feel as long as you have included the 3 poetic devices.
Comment on at least one student's poem. Give them DESCRIPTIVE FEEDBACK!

Mr.Hong taught us three things and I don't think rhyme was one of them, the one you missed was alliteration.

@ Gooner, don't let punctuation take a vacation! Don't forget to include all three (Alliteration, personification, and onomatopoeia.) And when you have done that don't forget to list them in bracets at the side of the sentence where you put them. This was all listed in the P.A.R. box.I really like your poem! You just forgot somethings.

Bullying

Bradi's heart go's boom bang bam wanting to let her emotions burst out but she holds them in.
Her heart is knocking but no one seems to be there.
Her face is pale and bare.
Bullying has got to her but lets make bullying a blur and live life to the fullest.

@Pebbles, great job! I really liked your poem! You had done the criteria for today's post a response on Onomatopoeia, Alliteration, and Personification which you had already done. But to make your poem even better try capitalizing your Onomatopoeia words like, BOOM! BANG! BAM! Once again great job ;)

@ Ariel, thank you so much for commenting on my post! I was considering doing that but I thought not with this poem because I want this one to be soft more meaningful and make you think. So I think if I add those Capiatls to the letters I think it will lose its softness, I will definitely do that in my other poems just for this one I want to leave it lowercase. Thank you so much for your feedback. I will use it for my other poems!

@ Goofy, it means... to have repetition like this Eg. Wonderful Wicked Whale. They all start with the same letter which in this case was W. Hope this helped!

GOOOOOAAAAALLLL! Fans roar as the soccer ball hits inside the net.

You did awesome on your poem, I don't think that fans roar is a personification but you could make the soccer ball be one bye saying the soccer ball jumped, ran, or flew into the net.
