Practicing Speeches

Today, the grade 6 student completed round 1 of Speech Fest and did a great job! Overall, I was very impressed with the amount of time and effort each student put into working on their speech. From the writing process to the presentation, it is clear to me that hours upon hours were spent refining their words and presentation skills. Good luck to all of you! To the grade 7's, good luck in tomorrow's presentations! You will all give your speeches in the morning!

1.) LA/SPEECH FEST:

Grade 7's, you will present your speeches tomorrow morning. Be sure to have it memorized.
Grade 6's, you will find out who goes on to the next round in the next few days.

2.) SCIENCE:

Complete drawing the individual components of your deep sea explorer. "You can paste them onto your bigger sheet tomorrow.
Hopefully you were able to complete your machine in class today. If not, you can complete the main machine tomorrow

3.) MATH 6: Any assigned work. Check your teacher's site.
MATH 7: Complete the following questions on today's blog.
1.) If you purchased one share of apple for $30.52 and it is currently priced at $345.62,
does this indicate a profit or loss? How much is the profit or loss? Be sure to indicate
using a positive or a negative sign.
2.) List at least 3 different places you have used or seen negative and positive numbers?
Be sure to explain what the positive and negative numbers you are referring to mean.
3.) If you have an arrow pointing from the zero to -5 on a number line and another from -5 to
+11, what is the addition question or subtraction question this represents?
4.) Watch this video and write your definition of an integer using at least one example.

POST A RESPONSE:

What did you learn from watching speeches today?
Grade 6 students - Comment on what you would do differently if given the opportunity to do it again.
Grade 7 students - Comment on what you will do tomorrow based on what you learned today from the grade 6 students.

Profit because when a stock goes up, the money does too. That's the whole point of the stock market.

an intager is when there are numbers either positive or negative.

1 It is a profit because If it started at 30.52 and went up to 345.62 than you made money.
2. I have seen negative and positive numbers in golf, stocks, my bank account and a diabetic blood reader.
3.the addition sequence is (-5) + (+11) = (+1) because -5 + +5 = 0 +1 = +1
4. Integers are the counting numbers. They are whole and have no decimals or fractions in them.

"Good morning Im _____ and today I'm going to be talking to you about _____." Thats what I heard a lot of while speeches were going on this morning. While watching speeches today I learned a lot on what everyone's topic was. For example, Tweety Bird talked about technology and the pros and cons. From her speech one thing I learned was that 1 out of every 5 homes don't have internet. Throughout the morning, I did learn a lot and was happy I was there to experience the grade 6 speeches. If I got more time to do my speech I would try to practice my gestures more to make them look more natural and try to cut out more parts of my speech to make it shorter. To conclude, this is what I learned from watching speeches and what I would do differently. So, if your in grade 6 what was your favourite part during this time of speech feast? Writing your speech? Presenting it? And grade 7's are you excited, scared, happy, or nervous to present your speech?

I will remember to speak loud and clear and to make eye contact. A lot of feedback that was given was to do these things, so I will make sure that I remember to do them tomorrow. It will be a lot easier to do these things if I fully memorize my speech.

I learned that many people didn't use a lot of hand gestures same with me so if I get the opportunity to present I will add more hand gesters. I will also try to change the tone in my voice so that I sound less like a robot.

Umm.... I'm from Div.2, but I'm pretty sure I am at the right place.
1.) You would have made a profit, since you bought it at a cheaper price, and also now you can probably sell it for more, since the share have gotten more expensive.
2.I have seen integers in the temperature, (The minus and plus in the temperature. ex. +12 Celsius. I have seen integers in banks, since they use integers to indicate money put in, or money put out. Finally, I have seen integers in BC and AD timelines. (Before Christ, Anno Domini)
3.) If the line went from -5 to +11, would't the difference be 16? If so, the answer would be 11? If not, the answer would be (+11)-(-5)=16? I am not entirely sure.
4. An integer is a natural number without a fraction or a decimal. They are also counting numbers. (Whole number)

I learned during speeches today what kind of pace and expressions are good and not to be monotone. Based off of what I learned I will not be slow in my speech.

Math:

Question one: it is an extremely good profit because the price is a higher number and not a bigger negative number. (The profit is 315.10 dollars.)

Question two: three places I have seen negative intragers are: above and below sea level in div 4's mapping unit last term, credit cards and bank accounts(intrest and debt in the positives and negatives for you), and currency values(currency exchanges).

Question three: the question is representing 0-+5++16=+11

If we're given another change I would try to practice more in front of people and try to have more confidence and try not to be monotone but also had more Hand gestures.

I learned that you should speak loud so everyone can hear you and you should use facial expressions. If I could do something differently I would use facial expressions and hand gestures.

"You'r so ugly, and amateur". Here is one of the powerful hooks that got my attention. Firstly, the thing I learned from watching the speeches today was that, everyone did a good job memorizing their speeches as well, as having their essay structure clear with supporting sentences. I also learned, that all of the speeches today had different tones and expressions. Lastly, since I am reading my speech tommorow, I got to make sure that I memorize my speech, and to make sure that I incorporate hand gestures, having different tones, and of course making sure that im confident talking to the class.

I learned lots of stuff from the speeches today. Some of them are...

1. Its much harder in front of an audience.

2. If I could do it again, I will talk slower and less choppy.

3. In addition I would less at my card and make more eye contact.

4. I would try to make my speech more interesting.

5. Remember all the sentences.

6. Practice more in advance.

That is what I would do if I had to do it again. What will you do?

Well, what I learned was to have a very interesting topic that, "POPS!" out like a double rainbow in the sky and to be very confident when presenting my speech. And if I ever get shy, just to take a deep breath. And from observing from the Grade 6's and Meagan was to show confidence like you got this, to make eye contact to everyone, not to be a robot when talking or staring at one person, and to speak loud and clear to others.

1.) The person who bought it would have a profit because he isn't paying as much as it's listed for, which is $345.62 and he bought it for $30.52. And, the profit would be +$315.10. The person who sold it was losing profits, so it's basically backwards and he lost himself -$315.10.

2.) I've always seen positive and negative sorts of things in golf courses when they're keeping track of the score, I've seen people use it when they're doing stock marketing online, and I saw them use it on hospitals when it shows on the heart rate indicator if the heart is pumping or beating or not, if the heart rate increases then so do the numbers. (It would show +#) And when the heart rate decrases it does the same thing but negative sign. (-#)

3.) If this was an addition question then it would go (-5) + (+11) = (+6), but if it was subtraction it would go (-5) - (+11) = (-16).

4.) My definition of an integer is when a number on a number line can only go positive and negative without any decimals, fractions, percents or ratios included in the numbers. Eg. 5, -5, +5. Not 0.05, 5;100, 5% or 5/100.

Positive means that you added to many shots then you should have used and negative means you did less then you should. I have also seen them in banks when you can tell when money has been put in and or taken out.
3) I think the answer is (+11)-(-5)=+16
4) An integer is a normal number or the opposite of that. ex. +4,-4

I learned that it is harder to present in front of a audience. If I did it again I look up more and express my voice more than a flat voice.

Math- In the text book it asks us all sorts of questions using intergers
Golf- your score either goes up or down.

4)An interger can\is basically any number (even negative) except a fraction or decimal.

I learned when you change your voice level it makes a big difference. If I could redo my speech I would defenitly make more eye contact with the audience and talk slower.

Tomorrow I will be loud and clear, present it with a lot of confidence, and make sure to go at a medium pace, so it's not too slow or not to fast. Also I will make sure to add some hand gestures but make it look natural.

I learned that you have to keep a steady pace for when you are speaking in front of the class and that you should take your time instead of skipping through everything. I think that tomorrow I will do just this and hope that I will be speaking fluently.

1.) $345.62-$30.52=$315.10 The one share that you bought went up by $+315.10 so that means that you have made a profit.
2.) The first one is one we talked about in class and it was golf. In golf you can get a positive number or a negative number, although you want a negative one. The second one you see is temperatures. You see more negative numbers like -5 or -3 usually in the winter time and +18 or +20 in the summer time, The third and final place you see positive and negative numbers is in the stock market. you are always seeing shares go up in the positive numbers and down in the negative numbers.
3.) (-5)+(+16)=(+11)
4.) An integer is a number that does not have a decimal, and cannot be a fraction either. It is just a normal number which can be negative or positive.

Math

1) 30.52 + 345.62= 376.14

2) I have looked at goalie stats for shutouts and non shutouts, And did the same with players for how many goals per game and if they were like 1 or 2 it would be negative and if it were 4 or 5 then it would be a plus. I did the same for basketball players for 3 pointers and how many misses or how many went in the basketball hoop.

3) -5 + +11= +6

4) An integer is when you use numbers for negative, positive, up down, -, +, and stuff like that.

What I learned from watching speeches today were such things as;

-speak loud and clear and good tone
-make eye contact
-use hand gestures
-use facial expressions
-it's hard to speak in front of an audience
-practice, practice

If I had an opportunity to redo it what I would do differently is:

-not be as nervous
-use more hand gestures
-focus more on the audience and not the camera
-slow down with my speaking

I learned that you need to vary your tone of talking and use multiple hand gesstures to make your speech flow better. You also should not just look at one place in the room. You should look around the audeince to make it seem natural.

From watching speeches today I learned that when it is my turn tomorrow I will try to speak slower because i tend to talk fast when nervice. What I will do tomorrow or at least try my best to do it to talk slower, more clear, and to focus on my speech so I don't get to nervice while talk infant of the class.

Also @Mr. Hong I don't understand what to do for the grade 7 math work because the positive and negative stuff is really confusing me. So I'm not sure on what to do.

2.) I've seen negative and positive numbers in weather e.g. today it's -4 degrees (so below 0, negative), or it's 6 degrees (higher than 0, positive). Also, I have seen negative and positive numbers in coordinates e.g. we're at +30, -31, +75, -12 (It can be negative or positive depending on your location.) Finally I have seen negative and positive numbers in banking e.g. credits (positive), debit (negative), and overdraft (also negative) for example you owe the bank $460.00 from your credit card.

3.) The addition equation represents (-5) + (+16).

4.) My definition of an integer is that a number is either negative (-6) or positive (+4) and it works like this (+9)-(+10)= -1 or (-5)+(+6)=+1.

If I were to do my speech again differently, I would use handguesters to help explain my statistics, facts, ect. I would also try to speak up because, if I spoke louder it would make me look confident, and comfortable. Also, if I had used more enthusiasm, maybe it would have made people pay more attention to my speech, and if I slowed down it would have been, more clear, and I wouldn't have stuttered. It is really important for me and for others too look up and have lot's of eye contact while presenting my speech. Also, I did not memorize my speech, that is why I did not have much eye contact, and I am pretty sure that lot's of other people did not memorize either.

I'm using this example because I think it is a great example because you can really see it go from positive to negative. My last example is bank account when you have money in your account it is at positive and when you used up more money then you have it goes to negative.
3.) The question is an addition equation and the equation is 0 + -5 + +16= +11
4.) An integer is a whole number with no fraction or decimals also a counting number for example 1,2,3 are all integers.

1.) Firstly, we all know that the original/ last/ first price was $30.52 and the price is now $345.62. By this, I know that the price went up by $315.10, and I know that (30.52- 345.62= 315.10 is the same thing as 315.10 + 30.52= 345.62). We also know that the (+) sign means that it's going up, and it also means positive. In a matter of fact, we all know that if the price went up it has to be greater than the first listed price.

2.) Secondly, we see integers, positive, and negative numbers everywhere. Additionally, we see them on different temperatures. For example, if it's really cold in Toronto and the temperature is -20 this is a negative number. Also, if it was really hot in Africa and the temperature was 50 or +50 then that means it's a positive number. We could also, see them in golf score charts, stock markets, and many more places.

3.) Thirdly, the addition equation will be (-5) + (+16)= +11.

4.) Lastly, my defination for integers is when it doesn't involve any decimal numbers or fractions. It could be a whole number such as, 5, it could be positive number such as, +7, or it could even be a negative number such as -6. For example, (+10) - (+13)= 3.

The share price was $30.52 when we bought it but now it is priced at $345.62 so if I were to sell it at that time I would make profit.
345.52 - 30.62= 344.9 so in money that would be $344.90

A)On a game when it says -20 points or +20 points.
B) on a map with the elevation and I think it's longitude and latitude.
C) get and tax on a receipt

Today I went to a track and field meet. I participated in running, tball, softball, frizby, and an onsticial course. I won a ribbon in all events. I also enjoyed a bounce castle
