Wednesday: Painting Pots and Planting Poppies

Remembrance day is a time for remembering. We pay homage to those who fought for our freedom and sacrificed their lives for us. Canada would not be the same country, had it not been for these brave soldiers.

Today, we painted flower pots with words and symbols associated with Remembrance Day. Tomorrow, we will be filling these painted pots with soil, and planting poppy seeds in them. This will serve as a more lasting reminder about the importance of remembering those who have sacrificed on our behalf.

1.) MATH 6 - Any assigned work.
MATH 7 - NO HW. We will check your previous day's HW tomorrow.
2.) SCIENCE - You may start creating your projects. They are due early next week. Follow the criteria sheet.
3.) WRITE A RESPONSE: Watch the video link and reflect on why we give the fallen soldiers 2 minutes of silence on Remembrance day. Would your life life be any different if these brave soldiers didn't fight for our country? Explain how it would be different.
4.) JOB APPLICATION: Submit an application for our class jobs here!
5.) IDEAS FOR "QUESTION OF THE DAY": If you have an idea for "Question of the Day" (the question on the board for attendance each morning), please submit your question here!

Yes it would be different because if they did not fight we might not know what it would be like today. We might be in danger with no one caring because just because of a couple hundred/thousand people.

Hi ATV BOY! I think you did a good job but here are a few suggestion for you.
- Try to focus on punctuation. For example, I think you should add a comma after "Yes", or after "Because".
- Focus on grammar/spelling. You had mentioned "Because" twice near the end.
- Also, try to add a little more detail. Remember, you want the reader to know what the question was, just by looking at your answer!

Overall, good job. :)

I think that we give 2 minutes of silence to honor the ones who fell for our country and to show that we have respect to any one who goes to war for a honourable reason like United States of America for freedom or Canada fighting along with U.S. to stop the world wars. All of our lives would have changed if the men who fell for us didn't fall, some of us wouldn't be in Canada in the first place and we would be different from hat each one uf us is now.

Hi Slender man! I think you did a good job, but here are a few suggestions for you.
- The first sentence could actually be split into two sentences. You know what this means.. It's a run on! So basically, focus on your punctuation.
- Sentence structure. Try to add a few transition words if you can. It makes the paragraph flow better.
- Try to clarify the last sentence towards the ending. I got a little confused of what you were saying.

it would be very different if the soldiers of canada did not fight because we might be part of Germany for example or maybe still at war. Canadian soldiers are very brave because they fought for our country because they knew that Canada is a wonderful country.

- Add transition words. It makes your paragraph flow better.
- Your second sentence has the word because twice.

It would be diffrent because we wouldn't be adlle to live your lives like we do and we wouldn't get the freedom we have now. If they didn't we would probly be slaves and not have freedom like we have.

Hi Princesa! Your response looks great, but their are a few suggestion I want to give you.

- There are few spelling errors, I suggest that you read over before you submit you post, also look out for the red line that comes under the word that you have misspelled.

- Maybe you could add more detail but I think if you add some transition words your sentences would "flow" better.

Other than that, I think you did a great job! :)

Princessa, it does not mean that the person is mean or nasty. It could be for their own personal reasons to. Also, people from a different country now living here doesn't really have to if they don't want to. You can see why that person wouldn't really celebrate it. Anyways, there are always two sides of a story, but I think you have a good point as well.

We take two minutes of silence on november 11th ever year to honor the soldiers who fought inn the war.If the soldiers didn't fight for us we wouldn't have any freedom.

@ Noonoo - Which freedoms do you believe are the most important ones in Canada? Have you heard dog the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms? If so, what do you know about it? If not, do some research and see what you can find! :)

- There are a few errors with some capitals in your response. Example, "November" should have a capital in the beginning.

- I noticed one spelling error, the word "in" only has one "n" not two.

- I think that if you had some transition words at the beginning, your sentence structure would sound better.

I think that we have to be silent for 2 minutes because we get to remember those who fought the great world wars and we give 2 minutes of peace for them to pest in peace in there graves in flanders fields and other places around the world. If the brave soldiers did not fight for the country we would not have the type of land we have today and not the type of peace that we have.

We should give 2 minutes of silence for the soldiers who fought and died for us because they fought for us, and us only, they had no other reason. If they didn't fight for us, some of our ancestors wouldn't be alive, and if they weren't alive, we wouldn't be either. If someone does not want to give 2 minutes, 120 seconds to the people who saved their lives, they are stupid.

I think we should give 2 mins of silence because they faught for the country they lost there lives the sacarficed there self for us so we should give them 2 mins of honnor.If we didnt have them maybe war could of came to Canada?.

We should give 2 minutes of our time to remember the soldiers that died or went missing in action because with out them canada would'nt be the same. There would probably always be fighting and no peace. They sacrificed themselves to give us a better life. Without the people who gave their lives in that war or even the people alive today canada wouldn't be the canada we know it as.

In my opinion we give 2 minutes to remember the solders that have fought for us because, if they didn't do that then Canada wouldn't be the same, because then there would be no peace and we would have to be very cautious going outside. Also if they never fought then we might not even be alive.

We have 2 minutes of silence to respect the people who fought for our country and to let them/their family that we care. We need to show that we thank them for fighting. It is to remember what they did. It is a time when some people cry, or when some people are too speech less to even talk.

I think they do the 2 minuets of silence because it is to honour the people that fought in the war and did not come back. And it is when you remember what they did for us, and like Judy Moody said some people cry.

I think we have 2 minutes because we want to thank those that have fallen for our country and those that are willing to give their lives to save our freedom. Also I think everyone should respect the ones that did this for us and everyone should participate in the 2 minutes.

I think that we have 2 minutes of silent to give our respects to the soldiers that fought or died during the war. if it wasn't for them Canada would be much different because the soldiers aren't just fighting for their respects and freedom they are fighting for the whole countries freedom and respect.
2 minutes of your time i think is not a big enough gratitude to show to the soldiers but it is better than nothing.

We give the soliders 2 minutes of silence becuase its respect to show them that we care about them dieing for fighting for are country. If it wasnt for the Soliders, right now we wouldnt have freedom.

I think we give the brave soldiers the 2 minutes of silence to show our respect for them, to give them peace as they are resting, tell them thank you. I believe that if it wasn't for the soldiers who fought for us we would not have the freedom and the government that we have today.

In my opinion, we give our Canadian soldiers 2 minutes of silence is to give respect. These people risked their own lives to give Canada a brighter future. The least we can do is give them 2 minutes of silence in honor of the soldiers. I think that if they didn't fight for us.... Canada wouldn't be as peaceful as it is today. Life would be different. We probably wouldn't have a charter of rights and freedoms. Which gives us the right to believe in anything we want, and the freedom of going anywhere we want.

The two minutes of silence on Remeberance Day is to show our appreciation for the men and women who went to war to keep us safe here in Canada.

If they did not go to war, the balance of power would be diffrent in Europe; and this would have affected the foreign policies and culture of Europe and North America.
