Wednesday: The Elements of Art

Today, you learned about the importance of the Elements of Art and how they are utilized in different forms of art. It is my hope that you start noticing the different elements in the work you create and the artwork you see around you. By using the different elements, you can create amazing effects.

2.) POST A RESPONSE:
a.) WONDER - Via started to realize that Miranda was still the same person she was before. She started to understand that Miranda, really didn't change at all. How do you think Via is starting to feel about the way she was behaving? Describe when you were in a similar situation. Provide enough details to describe how you felt and what the situation was.

b.) ART - Which elements of art did you use in your Picasso self-portraits? Review the video link below and comment on at least 2 elements you used in your portrait and how they helped the overall effect you were going for.

3.) MATH 6 - Complete Chapter 3 worksheet #1 handout.

a.) Via probably feels a lot better because that means she still has her old friend. I was in her position once in real life, I felt like a detective trying to find out why my friend changed but he/she (not being specific) is still the same. Changing your decisions is one thing you want to do but you can't always do it.

b.) I used the elements; Colour, Lines, Value, Form, Shape and Texture. I mainly used lines, colour, form and shape. Lines for outline, colour for appeal, value for bright and dark tones, form for face pieces, texture to spread pastel and shape for the head and body.

Hi Slender Man! I think you did a great response although, I have a few suggestions for you. Firstly, I think you should add a little more detail if you can. For example, you can write “Miranda” so people know who you are talking about. Secondly, add more transition words if you want to build a more proper sentence structure. Thirdly, try to clarify your last sentence a little bit, because I can not really understand how it relates to the response. Lastly, like I was saying before, grammar is important to have a strong response.

Via is feeling better because Miranda is still the same person from her old school, just different appearance.

My grandma came back form the eye doctor with one eye behind a patch. After the eye healed up, it was seeing a lot better. She could not drive until both eyes were fixed, but now she is the same grandma again.

Hi Gamer! Great job on your post today, there are a few mistakes you have and some suggestions I have for you. First of all, I feel like you can add more detail, because in part “A” you only wrote one sentence. Next time when you add more detail, remember to use transition words. Secondly in part “B” you spelled “from”, “form”. Remember to look out for those silly mistakes! Thirdly, I noticed that you have some grammatical errors. Meaning that your post doesn’t really make sense. Lastly, in part “B”, add how you were in the same position as Via. Other than that, awesome job!

Via is feeling better about Miranda after they spent some time together and she realized that even though was wearing different types of clothing, and dyed her hair that deep down she was the same girl as before.

A sense of relief, because she knows Miranda is the same person she was, just a difference in appearance, but not a change of heart. Also, excitement because she now knows Miranda loves her like a big sister and always will. So now Via is looking forward to school and to see Miranda- Her true friend. I have been in this situation before, I mean who hasn't? At the time my friends and I said we will be friends no matter what class we were going into. Then the following year, we didn't hang out anymore both of us thought we weren't friends anymore. Obviously we started to make ourselves try to have a reason for not hanging out with each other anymore, so we started to say she changed. Even though I actually did miss her. Now, look at us, we are in the same class and she hasn't changed a bit so that is a true friend.

Hi Sandy! You have added a lot of detail I can see which is a thumbs up! But, there are a few little suggestions I want to give you. You have used some transition words but I think you can use them in a proper manner. This meaning after you use “Firstly”, continue on with “Secondly”, and so on. Also, In Part “B”, I noticed that you kept on saying “we”, but who is this “we”? Also you had put commas in alot of places, but I suggest to look very closely and see where yo really need to put them.

I just wanted to add the second part of the post a response. I added lines to divide my face into different parts. I also used value with different shades like dark colours and light colours and when I added a light and dark colour together, it made the entire portrait pop out! This is called creating contrast.

A.) I think that Via is thinking a sense of relief that Miranda isn't so much different after all. When I was younger I had a really great friend that I had been friends with for a long time and when the summer was over and school started he was totally different like he had a buzz cut, braces and started wearing really weird clothes but then after a few days he was practically the same except his appearance was different.

Hi Gary! Great response today, although I have a few suggestions for you! Firstly, I think you should replace the word “Thinking”, with “Feeling” because didn’t she show her emotions in her excitement? Secondly, I think you should add more detail about Via and Miranda, because it seemed a little short. I think that Via is starting to feel relieved, because she was so sad and worrying about it so much. Just because Miranda had changed her image and the way she dressed, it really doesn't mean that Miranda's personality has changed. She still is a nice girl and cares alot about Auggie. Which is a great thing to have a friend that cares about your brother that is deformed. This isn't exactly what Via experienced, but it is kind of similar. Anyway, in grade two Sandy came after school and had started an was a new student. I was assigned the job to make friends with her and show her around the school. I really did not like her, I felt like she wasn't the type of friend I wanted or I should have. After year we became best friends, and today she is my best friend in the WHOLE WIDE WORLD!

Hi Pooh Bear! I think you did an awesome job, especially how you compared Via and Miranda to your best friend story, although everyone can improve something even though they don’t need to! Firstly, I think you should explain a little deeper in the very first sentence, like what is “It”.Secondly, watch out for little spelling mistakes such as, “A lot”, it’s two words. Thirdly, add some transition words to make it flow more easily. Lastly, pay attention to your grammar. There are a few missing words like “A”, between the words “After” and “Year”.

I think that Via is feeling kind of stupid and kind of relieved stupid because Via just thought that Miranda change her personality because of her apperance was differernt. But if someone just changes there apperence you should not automatically think that whole persons personality changed. a.) Via started to avoid Miranda one of her best friends because she looked different and acted differently. But always wanted to be her friend In my opinion, Via felt relieved because she thought she was going to lose one of her best friends. That's why she asked Auggie if Miranda said anything else. I have a similar text to self connection that is when one of my friends turned into grade 8 and as I thought, totally changed. But there was nothing to worry about because he was just the same!

b.) The 2 elements that would make a huge difference if it wasn't there, were line and colour. If my Picasso self portrait didn't have colour it wouldn't have the same effect as it would with it. And without lines, my art would look messed up!

When Via understood that Miranda just changed her appearance, she became overjoyed and excited.

Once when my best friend didn't come outside to play with me, I got mad and I never wanted to see him again and he made excuses "Oh I have to go to tennis class." But I noticed that his parents told him to rest a little because he had sports. I felt relieved, very relieved.

I think colour is important because it "shines" up the drawing and "WOWS" it. And I also think lines is important too, because, if you do not have lines, you don't have a picture, lines can be curvy, straight, or spiky.

Firstly, when Via asked August what Miranda had said when she called August, August told Via Miranda misses her and wonders why she doesn't hang out with her. After hearing what August had said, Via was overjoyed and so excited.

Secondly, is my connection. My connection is when my friend's rang my doorbell I didn't answer it. They thought I was ignoring them. But I just went to a vacation and when I got back, I explained everything. It wasn't much of a good connection, but at least I have one.

Thirdly, some of the rules of art I used is colour. Colour is important because it "shines" up the drawing and "WOWS" it. And I also think lines are important too, because, if you do not have lines, you don't have a picture or shape. Some examples of the styles of lines are... curvy, straight, or spiky.

Via thought that Mirranda would be meaner because she looked different then she did before her summer camp. And another reason Via thought Mirranda was not as nice as before because she was now hanging out with the popular group of teenagers.
For the Picasso art I used colour and lines. I used a bunch of different colours to make it look like abstract art. I also used lines to draw the face and shoulders.

a) I think Via is feeling better now that she knows that Mirranda still wants to be friends. Via thought that Mirranda didn't want to be friends with her because she started hanging out with other teenagers and looked a lot different than she did before she went to the summer camp she went to. A similar situation i've been in is when my best friend went to the movies with my family and pretty much ignored me the whole time he was with us, he just played on his ipod. The only difference is that he still ignores me.
b) I think two of the elements of art we used were colour and lines. The reason I chose colour was because we used colour to make the art abstract so it POP's. I chose lines because without lines we wouldn't have shape and without shape we wouldn't have form and without form we would just have a big BLOB of colour.

The two elements of art that are important is colour and lines. Lines can be wavy or straight , thin or thick.

I think Olivia is feeling really happy right now because of what her grandmother said , I have never experienst this before but I would probably feel a bit happy but sad. Miranda has changed in the book and Olivia doesn't want to tell her what she thinks of her now.

Nice response Percy! But you have a few capitalization, grammar, spelling, and punctuation errors. Spelling : I'm guessing sh is she and in the Canadian dictionary color is spelt colour. Grammar : I think Miranda when she was at the. It should of been : I think that Miranda when she was at the. Capitalization : The " W " in well should not be a capital. Punctuation : You do not have to add another period after a exclamation mark. Also, there needs to be a period after line.

I think Via feels bad because she judged Miranda by her looks (she judged the book by its cover) which is wrong because she at least should have talked to Miranda to see if she changed.

I think that the two elements of art I used was colour, and line I thought those two were the most valuable when I was doing my Picasso art because like what you said in class today I wouldn't want to look at my picasso art if there was no colour because the colour was the thing that makes it really POP out (stand out). Also lines, lines are what makes my art, because if I couldn't use lines then my art would just be a blank sheet of paper!

A- I think that Via is feelin a bit sad that she though her best friend changed but at the same time she's glad to know that she hasn't changed.I don't think I've been in this kind of situation before.

B- During the time that I was doing the Picasso portraits I mainly used three elements of art which we're colors, lines, and shapes. The colors helped by making the portrait stand out, the lines helped with shaping the portrait and the shapes came in handy with the head and eyes.

Once again Gaia, don't use the word "Cuz" in blogs like this, it just looks wrong and its easy enough to type because, i'm sorry but that one thing really gets on my nerves. A lot of things can be improved in your post, add more details, make it longer, we need more ten a sentence here Gaia, we need more of everything here, and also you need to awnser the art question, and please just improve all your posts so they look like a grade 6 wrote it, please.

Hello Gaia i think that you should not really use "cuz" in your paragraph and 'i' need to be a capital :) an 'friends' is spelt like that :)

Gaia, I think you are going in the right direction, however you need to be more detailed with your response. Also, take care with your spelling and watch the grammar and using slang terms for certain ( ie. cuz)

b) The elements of art i used where: lines-created shape and form. shape-oval,circle and square. form-it helped mace every thing look how it is. color- it is what made it POP. textchure-the textchure is oily.

A- Via is feeling happy and relieved that Miranda was the same person on the inside but mabye not the out side my connection is my friend looked kind of like a bully but he wasn't

b- for are Picasso paintings I put light and dark colours to it stand out we also used lines and shapes to make it look nice and doing the painting was fun
