Creativity is alive and well in Division 4! The image to the left is an example of what the Grade 6/7 students created using a pencil and a computer. Amazing to say the least!

The holiday season is upon us and we are working hard at Hillcrest to prepare for the play. The students are working hard like Santa's little helpers. They are are creating props, stage scenes (Thanks to Ms. Wilson), and practicing their dance routines diligently every day! The excitement is in the air and we can't wait to perform next week!

1.) MATH 6 - Complete the following for your 'INVESTMENT' portfolio in Google Docs/Drive:
a.) Complete 1 calculation and 1 estimate for each of the companies you have bought shares in.
b.) Update your spreadsheets to show the 'TOTAL VALUE' of your stocks with today's closing prices. Use the formula =sum(TODAY'S CLOSING PRICE * NUMBER OF SHARES YOU OWN)
c.) If you have any questions, post them here.
MATH 7 - Any assigned work.

2.) WRITE A RESPONSE - Find a reliable news article on a global issue and complete the following (choose a topic you haven't written about yet):
a.) Read the entire article and post a LINK here.
b.) Post your opinion on the article here.
c.) Provide at least 2-3 supporting sentences (examples, statistics, quotes, etc) to support your opinion.

3.) DONATIONS - Bring non-perishable food items to donate to the Food Bank.

On paper:
So you should have 9 companies. With those 9 companies, "buy" the closing price and see how much shares you want. Then you have to multiply them. Do an estimate (rounding) and a calculation.

On computer:
On your spreadsheet, update to the current information via Google Finance or Stock House.

That's all you need to do! Just show your work and do it neatly.

On computer:
On your spreadsheet, update to the current information via Google Finance or Stock House.
THEN, you do the exact same thing you did on paper (without the estimates) on the computer and when you're multiplying use =sum then ( and click on your spreadsheet the section you're buy price (closing price) then put a little * then click how many shares you bought. Press "enter" and the answer will be given.

Tumblr went out a couple hours ago because of a network issue. A lot of people in the world (8,600) were disconnected. Many issues like this happened. In October, a hacker group called, GNAA claimed responsibility for the attack that made Tumblr fall. Should we keep using Tumblr?

I mean if you have Tumblr, yes you should because all your info is stored.
If you don't, don't use it, there are way better social media sites like FaceBook and Twitter.

In my opinion people should stop polluting by car pooling, buying electric cars,and not using your car unless it is needed. Some examples are like if someone lives ten minutes away from thier school and could walk but instead they drive, or two people are going to the same place but instead of carpooling they take thier own cars, and lastly if people are buying a new car instead of thinking about the environment they go ahead and get the new GAS car wich pollute the eviroment. That is my opinion, what is yours?

I think that the article is neutral because it is stating that the company made a mistake and soled vehicles that were unsafe also, there are 52,441 cars in Canada that have been recalled and in total there is about 870,000 cars that have been recalled in the world but so far there have been no injures and the reason they have been recalled is because they can roll back without the keys in the ignition. There is more info on that in the article.

According to the news station, there was a study done and that they proved that using a mobile app that tracks your eating and your exercise could help you lose wait. Also keep it off. In my opinion- I think that an app could help you lose weight because maybe if you we're trying to lose weight and u didn't know what you were eating maybe if you had the app you could see what your eating daily and how much you are eating and if you should stop eating that much of that type of food. Also it could tell you how much exercise you are getting and how much more exercise you need to get to reach your fitness goal. :)

According to an ex-cast member of the reality show storage wars the show is rigged. They place valuables in the lockers so that the contesstants will bid. After the people buy the lockers they take the things they put in out. So really they are'nt getting valuable items. I my opinion there is no proof this isnt true and there is none it is, but I believe that the ex contesstant is telling the truth because if they put these items in the lockers people will want to bid on them so it will make the show more exciting.

@ Judy Moody - No. You do not have to show your estimate and calculations unless you want to. The important thing for your spreadsheet is to input the Total Value of your stocks for today using the closing price of each stock. Does that make sense? If not, let me know.

This fighter jet cost $45.8 billion dollars up for buy's, but the government says that he is not too sure to fly it. In my opinion well.. first I think that that is a CRAZY amount of money, anyways who would have that kind of money just to buy a air craft that you don't even know if you can use. 2) to pay that amount but.. it is not even fixed by damage of flying and also it needs some parts still.

The article is encouraging the students to vote for the increased U-Pass fees with known face value for the next 3 years.

The majority of students need to vote for this; for this to be approved.

The U-Pass fee for next year is $35; where a regular one zone fare is $91; a two zone $124; and a three zone is $170.

Even if some of the students are supporting their fellows if they do not use transit them self's; this is a benefit they need to support the larger student body.

in my opinion i think bouncy castles are safe at times but if you're fooling around and not thinking about safety, then you can get injured. bouncy castles are very safe at times because if you are just bouncing then you have nothing to worry about. bouncy castles can be dangerous at times only if your rough housing or trying to do flips then you can injure your self. Bouncers beware!

Recent study's have shown that bounce houses are very unsafe for anyone. 😱 There have been many major injuries over the past 10 years. These injuries have happend to kids age 17 and younger. It has been told that parents should take caution when there kids are in a bounce house. There should be room for one kid on a bounce house at a time.

This article is about school boards cutting the arts, and I completely agree with all statements inn this article.
First of all, they talk about how the arts are so important, seeing as it helps kids get through life, seeing as kids these days are told to absorb information and then spit it back out, and not do the real work that helps the brain study, while art trains the mind, teaching it things it can learn form. It also talks about what art can do for you, it helps people get high paying jobs and life skills, like in one class room they are told to use different shades of skin tones, instead of always using beige, teaching against racism, and in another class they are taught to see the human body in a different way, how to make the lines even and not have things look like the work of everyone else. I believe that we are doing the right thing in our classroom to, because we give our self's criticism and that makes us stronger at better at the subject, we are not just taking the info and then spiting it back, and that's how it should be, so this is why they shouldn't cut back the arts.

This article was about banning body checking in kids hockey. In my opinion, I think that we should keep the body checking. Not because I love that people get hurt. But, when you get to a higher level with bigger, stronger people, you wouldn't be ready. If they body checked you they would totally knock you over! Let's say you already had body checking, then you would be prepared on taking and giving a hit. In addition, it makes you more aware. Because you will be making sure you don't put yourself in a bad position.

According to CNN news there will be 911 texting in 2014. the top four US carriers have agreed to apply texting to emergency service. The service will not work with third-party texting apps like text plus. In the mean time anyone that sends messages to 911 will be sent a message saying that their message has not been received. Most 911 systems are managed locally, but the next-generation 911 project will push to update the systems to handle modern communications, including calls over the Internet, images and photos. I think that this attempt is partly a good idea and a bad idea. Firstly It's bad because it would be hard to run away from someone while texting and I think it's good because it will be moving with time because most people are starting sing mobile devices for communication.

This is artical talking about the nhl lockout. People really want the nhl to get back in play but it possible want happen sadly. The hole argument to the sides of the story are. One side has the nhl players on it and they are arguing that they should not get paid less than they already are getting paid also the nhl staff/owners are making slight changes to the game of nhl hockey that some of the nhl players dont like.

Lately parents of kids are saying that the internet is harming kids who use it for school. They're saying that the information online can't be relied on and its hard to keep things private. On the other hand, some parents are saying that its a good way to communicate and collaborate.

In my opinion technology makes school fun. On a computer you can copy and paste very easily. On paper you have to write everything out again and again. So I think that technology is a good thing to have in schools.

I thought this article was actually very informational, and funny! In my opinion, I thought they have just revealed a great way to save money. Although, they do say it's just for Hybrids/Smart cars. It saves you a quick buck, so I guess if you want to save a few dollars, you could do that. People are getting a little angry though because they think it's a little unfair that they get to have free parking. But, in the end of the article she learned a valuable lesson. "If you find a good place to park downtown, keep it to yourself."

In my opinion, this is slightly biased and is very strange thing to report on. This article is strange because it sounds biased at first, it kinda is but when you read the article, you know it isn't biased as much as you thought at first. According to Time for kids, More children in Philadelphia, New York and Los Angeles are losing weight so there are less Obese kids. CDC director, Thomas.R Frieden said "“Obese children are more likely to have asthma, depression, diabetes, and other serious and costly health problems". The schools in Philadelphia are working with an organization called Food Trust. Food Trust connects schools with local farms and brings fruits and vegetables to cafetirias. I think this will increase or mostly stop the decreasing population, since obese kids are more likely to get a desease and die.
