Transition Word Overload

Today, the students learned more about writing fluency by learning not to overload 'TRANSITION WORDS' into their writing. Scott and Damian volunteered for the demo. In the image, each book represents a transition word you may see in a piece of writing. Clearly they were overloaded by them. 1.) MATH 6: Chapter 7 Lesson 5 Worksheet and textbook questions #1-10. Also, Watch this video to review today's lesson.
MATH 7: Any assigned work.

2.) LA: If you haven't done so yet, review the learning intentions for the Novel Approach with your parents. I will be contacting each of your parents to make sure you have done this.

3.) POST A RESPONSE:

We have been working on writing down your thinking onto your reading materials.
1 - Today, I would like you to post your VISIBLE THINKING in paragraph form on how you read the daily post on our class website. (IE Thoughts, questions, connections, ideas, experiences, vocabulary, phrases, explanations, etc.)
2 - In addition to your visible thinking, I also want you to write down 3 different purposes when you read the daily post on our class website. Surely you all read it several times to check to see if you have completed everything and to make sure you have not missed something.
3 - Keep in mind the different sections and the types of things that you see here on a daily basis. Be sure to comment on these.
4 - Comment on one other person's response and reply to any comments you receive.

1: The way i read the daily post is, first to make sure I know what I have to do. Then i check to see if i did anything wrong. I also go over the post many times to get it in my head. Then when i am done i post my response.

2: My purposes are: For understanding, To get it in my head and to make sure I did everything right.

3: On the blog we see different kinds of pictures and videos. We also see any reminders about homework. We can also see on each section what we did on that subject.

@Xbox Man, I think you did a good job on your post, you forgot to capitalize an "I" or an "i". Grammar matters wherever you go, so should the world you made that banner.

I actually never realize this but whenever I read the post I actually set a purpose. 1. I read quickly 2. I try to understand very carefully so I can meet the criteria. 3. I go back and forth with my post to meet the criteria and make sure I have the right things.
MY VISIBLE THINKING:
Everyday I like how the post a response is clear, and like we talked today, it is very well written not too much transition words. It is just right. A question I have is why is the blog's theme this purticular layout? With all the layouts weebly offers you and just this one.

@ Azbo - I use the current theme because I think it looks quite nice, it is professional looking, and has a clean and simply look to it. Do you think we should change it? If so, to which theme?

Mr. Hong is the Langauge arts thing on Google docs due tomorrow? It does not say so.
Aswell I was bored so I just made a very simple program saying hello world incase anyone is intrested:
var helloWorld = function(){
fill(0);
textSize(30);
text("Hello World!", 200, 200, 200, 200);
};
helloWorld();

If you type that using a JavaScript launcher the word Hello World! will pop up. By the way Hello World is very popular that is the first code ever written (I THINK) however many programmers first code was hello world so whatever :)

Thanks!! What the code is doing is first, I make a function I call this function helloWorld. Then I wrap it in the curly braces and put the chunck of code in it. I set the fill color to 0 whitch is black and then I say make the text size 30. After I tell the computer to text "hello world!" at 200x and 200y and the width and height is also 200. So now I have it but wait?!?! Its not showing!! Thats the problem lots of people forget. I made this code in a function so it is easy to reuse it just. So now I made but now I need to say to do it! So then I put helloWorld(); and it is all done!! Try itt at home if you can find a proseesing.js launcher or main.js launcher!!Have fun!!

I read the post to see what I'm up for, than I reread too see what I need to do than I go back and follow the directions.

The blog is pretty clear with not a lot of transition words witch makes it easy to read.

When I read the post I go over it about 3 times. The first time is to see what I am needing to do for the P.A.R. The second time I read is to understand what I have to do more. For example, I have to read through to make sure I'm doing witch a lot of the time I do not do the post right. The third time is to check over my work. I think the blog is clear to read because It has transition words but not to many witch makes it easy to read.

Whenever I read, I always set a purpose and all the purposes I set are the same.

- Predict what it will be based about. (Unless its something like the blog.)

- Read for fun

- Re-read to understand

- Re-read again to ask questions and try to find out the authors message.

When I come on the website, I always wonder (Predict) what he will post for the daily blurb, then whenever I hear anything I don't understand I re-read (Understand) to help me understand it more and read the words around. At the same time I get connections to all the familiar words I hear (Visualize, connecting). But that's not all, I also do it for the post to help me understand, read to know what I will be posting, and connect to all the familiar words.

@Mr. Hong, when will we be working on our class websites? I'm very interested in doing them. Right now I have a few websites that are different languages such as French, Korean, Spanish, German, Filipino, Dutch, and of course English.

Some of the steps I do when I visit the website is : I skim through the message of the day and then read again for more important things.

Next I see if there is a video and then I watch it

Then I read the post a couple times then I read some posts to get a good idea

Lastly I do the post and try to respond to other people

When I get on the website I scan through everything then if I wasn't there that day I would read the math homework then language arts, science, social studies, etc. Then I read the P.A.R. several times the I actually do it.

The Purposes I Read The P.A.R. .................
1. To see what my homework is and what I missed if I was gone.
2. To see what I have to do for the P.A.R.
3. To ask questions about the homework I'm stuck on.

I read the criteria the first time so I know what to do, the second time during writing and a third time to check if my post needs to be edited.
I think the website is very useful. sometimes what we need to do for homework is more clear on the website than it is when I write it in my planner. the videos that are posted help me understand those subjects. the post a response helps me get extra practice on L.A. and other subjects. I like the website overall.

Firstly, when I enter the class website I do a quick read through to know what we did in class today and what's for homework. I do this by, reading each word/ sentence carefully to make sure that I do not miss anything that could help me alot. For example, If I had a sentence saying, “Grade 7 math worksheets for homework”and I missed the words, “Grade” and “7”, I won't know if the worksheets were assigned for the grade sevens or the grade sixes. This is why reading carefully can help a lot. On the second read I usually read the criteria step-by-step for the P.A.R. I do this by, reading each step carefully so I can make sure I didn't miss anything I was supposed to do. Also, If I find a word I do not understand on the steps I look up a dictionary and I search the word that I didn't understand so that I can make sure I understand it. Thirdly, If I am not sure what to do for the P.A.R I ask questions, then after if someone replied to me I look back and I re-read the steps. That is how I follow step-by-step for the P.A.R. Lastly, on the third read I usually re-read again to make sure I followed everything correctly, I do this by making a last quick read through.

1.) To check for home work. I Can be forgetful so it is very helpful.

3.) To read the blurb. I read the blurb so I have a refresher on what I learned.

You are just saying different things you read or do on the website, your supposed to say what purposes you use when you are reading the P.A.R instructions.

How I read the daily post is I first read what we have for homework and what we learned in class. Then I read the P.A.R. After that I start writing out my post a response and then I edit/revise my post. I sometimes post on others posts and give them feedback and I also respond to feedback given to me.

1.) You read the daily post so that you can review what we learned in class that day.

2.) You read the daily post so that you know what is for homework.

3.) You read the daily post so that you know what to post for the P.A.R.

The way I read the daily post is what is the homework and read the blurb. Next, I watch the video. Then, I read what is the P.A.R, and work on it.
To check the homework so I could know what to do.
To do the P.A.R so I could learn more.
To read the blurb so I cold review what we learned today.

Second I read the criteria closely so I know whats for homework

1. I check the blog as soon as I get home if Mr. Hong hasn't posted yet I check again in another 1/2 hour.

2. I read once just to see how easy/time consuming it is then If it's a paragraph type answer I wait until I do the less time consuming homework I have to do. I read the second time to understand. I read it a 3rd time cause my mom/dad usually reads what Mr. Hong wrote. 4th I watch whichever video the teacher posted for us.

3. If I forgot a question I could post on the website asking what it was or ask Mr. Hong by E-Mail

The way I read the daily post is by looking at everything from the top to the bottom. My three purposes are,

1. Reading the message and then the P.A.R.
2. Reading comments (if there are any).
3. Think of my P.A.R assignment and write down my thoughts or facts for research.

When I read the message I think about how it might relate to the P.A.R and predict what it's going to be about. Then I look at the instructions for it and go down to read the comments for any examples or ideas if I am stuck or just for fun. I then think of my P.A.R and how I'm going to write it.

The way I read the post is that I only read the part at which I can get a mark for school for example the post a response.

When I first read the post I read it so I can get a feel for what I have to do.

Then I read more closely so I can do the post and not have to redo it

And finally I read it one more time so I didn't miss anything.

1.) for the class website I will first look at the date and see if it's the today's date and if it is all read the blurb then skim past grade 6 math to grade7 math the to the post a response and go back and forth answering each question.
2.) 3 purposes I read the daily blog are for my learning because I need to know what's the home work, and another is because Mr.Hong wants us too and finally because sometimes if there are big things coming up its is posted on the blog and that's how I remember then.

The first time I check the website is just for fun or a feel you might say, and to see how much homework I have.Second time I check is to see if Mr.Hong has updated anything or changed anything.Finally the last time I check is to double check I have done every thing and if anyone commented on my post.

I usually set a purpose my first purpose would be to see what we need to do, for my second purpose I go back and forth after I finish each step and check that I did it right and for my third purpose I read to see that I didn't miss anything and for my fourth purpose I check that I met the criteria then I post and refresh the page to see if Mr. Hong changed anything or if someone responded to my post.
