Today, the students dove deeper into learning about the hot topics surrounding the 2015 elections. They learned about the pros and cons to some topics from vaccinations to government surveillance and also about privacy and freedom. Next week, a candidate from the Liberal party of the Cloverdale riding will be coming to talk to the students about his platform. We are hoping to have the other candidates come to Hillcrest to talk about what they hope to do if they are elected.

1.) MATH 6:

Watch this video for extra review.
Complete Chapter 3 Lesson 2 Questions #1 a-f
Complete String art and follow the instructions carefully on pg 77 of your textbook. Don't forget to answer all 4 questions on pg 77.
Use different colours and continue connecting the lines with multiples of 6,7,8, etc.

MATH 7 Middleton and Wilson:

Watch this video on divisibility with your parents. It will help you understand your divisibility rules.

2.) Social Studies:

Show your parents one of the issues from the canada.isidewith.com website that you haven't read about on your own yet and try to explain what the statistics (pie graph) means and what some of the pros and cons may be.
Ask them if they can think of any pros and cons.

3.) POST A RESPONSE:

Many of you have expressed an interest in the fine arts (painting, drawing, drama, digital art, photography, dance, etc).
Post a short paragraph about any fine arts topic that you are interesting in learning about this year.
In your paragraph, be sure to use the structure you learned about in class: a.) a topic sentence b.) supporting sentences / details c.) concluding sentence
Provide at least 2-3 reason why you want to learn about a given topic and be sure to include examples for each reason.
Post a positive and encouraging comment for one other student and give the same person at least 2 suggestions for improving their paragraph.

Learning photography is my goal. This year I want to learn how photography is properly done. I want to learn this to capture life's memories. For example, when I earn an achievement, like winning a ribbon in a race I will be able to take a good picture. Also learning photography would be an awesome new hobby for me! It will be an amazing thing if I could take pictures of nature and wildlife! I can't wait to learn photography!

Something I've always wanted to try to learn was photography . I am always trying to take pictures of random things but they don't turn out so well! I would love how to learn to take a really nice photo and how to edit it. In conclusion what I am trying to say is that my choice is photography📷

Good start in using transition words I like how you said in conclusion to start of your conclusing just make sure that you add more detail like Ally said because remember you hamburger chart 3 topic sentences and then detail to support you supporting sentences. Over all good job!

Learning how to digital art and photography is my goal. This year I want to learn how photography is done properly and how to edit. so I can capture those memories and how to edit so I can have a really good picture.I also want to learn how to do digital art so again i know how to use photo shop and how to edit but also get better at drawing maybe after i know how to do digital art i might like drawing and i can improve on my drawing.

I would like to learn about digital art. I like to do lots of digital stuff with art and I want to try the pencils to pixels thing. I would like to learn how to make good art online. I saw 2 kids from Mr. Hong's class's art from pencils to pixel and they were really cool. Also, I would like to look into animation. I think thats a form of digital art?? Anyways, I hope I can try some digital art this year!

I would like to learn about digital art because it look fun I saw some out in the hall so I wanted to do it too. Oh and Mr. Potato said it was fun last 2 years ago in Mr Austins class. I also want to do this because I do some digital art too but its not so great if you have ever seen any of my art. I hope we can do some digital art over this year since we never got to last year. And maybe we can do some soap stone this year.

This year I'm interested in learning about drama. The first reason why is because I think it's really fun. I think it's fun because you get to make up skits and perform them to the class. The second reason why is because I'm starting to do extra work in tv shows and stuff and it would be good to get some more practice. The last reason is that I is this in grade 4 a lot and I thought it was really fun so I want to do it again. To conclude I love doing drama and I think it would be awesome if we did some this year.

This year for fine arts, I would like to learn about digital art photography. I want to learn about this because I think digital art is cool, as you can make video games, videos and do creative art just for fun. digital art it everywhere today. You can see digital art like posters, magazines, books, toy boxes etc. learning digital art would help me do a lot of amazing things as well as help me create my own ideas. Digital art is amazing and I'm excited to start!!

This year I would like to learn about animation. I recently watched Wreck-it Ralph and I wondered how they do the details. For example the kids, the arcade and the electricity going through the cord. Another reason why I want to learn animation is because someday I really want to make a movie such as Tangled, Frozen and Wreck-it Ralph. It will be a challenge and I would learn a lot but it would be fun!!!

Good idea's however, movies like Wreck-it-ralph and so on require years and years of work and is not something easy and the animator probably have degrees in animation and very good computers with high specs and use very expensive and high tech software like final cut pro and so on. @ Pizza, I like you paragraph but if you had to pick something what would it be? Also,I would try to make your paragraph longer and try to be more descriptive and add transition words like we did in class today. You also have some spelling every and don't forget that you have to have capitals and get into that type of format. A good way to get in the habit of that is when you are texting , (if you do text) is writing sentences with full words not like u and using capital and periods. This is what i did and now it come naturally to me and that is how I am when I text. But, thats all great job!

Tic tic tic tic, that is the sound of me finishing up my master piece of software. Firstly, this year I am really interested in programming and making apps that allow users to make art. So far our plans are to make an app where you can add pixels to images - like a pixel create app for the users. Making a utility to edit your images for and making it cross platform it will be awesome especially because I am soon going to make utilities in my bussiness and I can learn now because I am only fimiliar with game development currently, plus I need to learn a new programming langauge called nodeJS which I am sort of fimiliar with however, I'm not fluent in it so I can be on the same track as Tacosuar and Batman. Plus lots of people said they wanna learn photgraphy and that will be cool to use our app.To illustrate, they can add cool affects such as stickers and props custom made! To conclude, with the new iPhone 6S, Android marshmellow, iOS 9, tvOS2, iPad pro and more we can make new features in the new API's like maybe force touch. This will allow for a much new user experience and iterface like none other before. Using software to make beter software run over it. Tic tic tic tic tic, thats the sound I can't wait to here when I make my next masterpiece of software!

A topic that interests me is digital art. My plan is to help Ryan make an app that turns regular pictures into pixel pictures. We are going to learn a new type of code that will allow this to work. What our app does is takes and ordanary picture and puts makes it pixelized.

The reason why I want to do this is because it will be a good learning experience about how long it takes an app and to see if this app would be good on the App Store.

"Ohh no I broke a nail!" said the girl in Drama class. The thing that I would like to do the most in the Fine Arts is Drama. I don't know why but it has always interested me. Firstly, I would like to do Drama because it is not something most people can do right off the spot it is a skill that has to be taught most of the time and I would like to master it. Secondly, I like it because there are so many different types of styles to do with it. Its like a cake with many layers. For example, you could do humorous or sad, happy, dramatic, angry, etc. Thirdly, when doing drama you get to express you self. To explain, the way your hands move, you posture, facial expressions, appearance, etc. To illustrate, this is why I would like to drama because I like how you can be yourself while doing it and be unique.

I for one would love to do drama. The first reason is just I have always felt drawn to drama it really excites me. I also wish to do drama because every February I go up to Cultis lake for a children's retreat and as a tradition I always choose drama as one of my activity's. The third and final reason I wish to do drama is it gets me pumped and I wish to be an actor ( for my Disney career ). I of course wish to do other things but Drama as my first choice.

I want to learn Photography the most because for one, you can look at things from a different angle. Secondly it allows you to get up close and personal with random objects. Finally, You could even add in a little digital effects to make a random picture look really bright and colourful. Anyways, thats just my opinion on what I would like to do.

Great Job @Chicken! I agree with you I think that photography would be a greaat thing to learn. But, in the beginning your topic sentence should not have any details in it. Some other things are you should be more specific, like when you said, "It allows you to get up close and personal with random objects." One last thing is on your second to last sentence there is something that should not be capitalized. Other than those few things, good job!

For fine arts I would love to design clothes and make them because I think it will be tons of fun and really helpful for dance if I could make my own costumes. Since I really like to draw and sketch I think it will be a great thing for me to do. I really enjoy sewing, sketcing dresses, designing things and making things look pretty. Another thing I would love to do is drama because I love acting and it will definetly help in dance with emotion and if I audition for a role in a movie. I've always wanted to do drama. I would always bug my parents about acting and drama because I really enjoy it. For fine arts I would really like to design clothes or do drama because these two were my top picks and I really enjoy doing them.

Something that I would like to learn this year is computer art. My reason for this is because I feel confident in my art (most of the time) like when I'm drawing, painting, ect. Also, I would like to explore my possibilities as a "artist". The third reason for wanting to learn computer art because it would be a nice expirence for me to have. For example, instead of spending so much of my time on a project on colouring, or drawing, and all that other stuff, I could just go on a computer and print out something for that prroject which would take less that a minute. Lastly I would love to learn computer art, I think I would have lots of fun learning it, and this year I hope I get a chance to.
