1.) Math 6 Pg 302 (#1-6)
MATH 7 - Worksheet and corrections
2.) Science
- Make edits/revisions as suggested by your partners (peer feedback from yesterday - make sure you read the comments in your google docs/email). Do the edits to your 'SUMMARY' files and not your 'POWERPOINTS'.
- Once you finish making all your edits/revisions, please email it (SUMMARY FILE) to your partner and to me. (attach the file as an attachment). If you don't know how to do this, post a message.
3.) LA - Thesis statement worksheet corrections, Thesis statement quiz tomorrow, and Writing Rocket worksheet. (The majority of you have completed the worksheets already)
4.) POST A MESSAGE - We discussed the 'Stop Online Piracy Act' (S.O.P.A.) in class today and how the U.S. government is trying to censor certain websites that have to do with the online streaming of tv shows, movies, etc. China is a communist nation and their government blocks/censors many websites so their people are unable to learn about certain topics that the government deems inappropriate.
- Define censorship in your own words.
- In your opinion, do you believe that censorship is good or bad? Give at least one good reason why you chose your answer.

To me I think censor means blocking or covering up just like censorship, it means kind of like people are deciding what I can or cannot view!

I think censorship is bad because it feels as though we are powerless against this. Also, I think people should have the right to view what they want, instead of people making this decision for us.
So all in all I feel censorship is wrong/bad, we all need our freedom.

It is also bad because if we need the free online websites do view we cant do anything about being blocked. It also feels like they are banning something. We need certain websites to keep the world evolving into better things, so now I am wondering how much the world is going to change, (for the better or for the worse) and how long we can put up with it.

Another word for censorship is ban because censorship means your forbidden to do something.

I think it's good and bad. Because something like drugs should definitely be banned. But on the other side shutting down websites like wikipidia would make it harder for other people to get research they need. It's also bad because some people put movies on youtube or some other website that people can watch it for free.
That's why I think it's good and bad.

I think that censorship means that people want your site to be shut down so the public can not see it get knowledge from it.

I think censorship is good because if somebody posts a website on the internet that is talking about classified information I am sure somebody will not want people around the world to see it

Censorship is to cover something up or suppress the view of it. I think that censorship is good in covering up things that should not be shown although, what SOPA is trying to do is take away our freedom to view the internet as we do today. In this case censorship is bad. "Imagine a world without free knowledge". That's what wikipedia made their main page say because if SOPA does pass we will lose all the things that TONS and I mean TONS!!!! of social, research, and media sites that every human that is using the internet is used to having. Imagine a world without Youtube, a world without Wikipedia, a world without Facebook and Twitter. I think that SOPA is a horrible thing that the US is trying to pass. This is censorship that has gone much to far.

@ Joe - You bring up some good points! If we didn't have free knowledge (not referring to the intellectual property of others), it would be very difficult to learn at the pace you currently learn.

I think that cencorship is to block or cover up the writen word and other information or in this case to block the world wide web from the public access.

I think that cencorship can be good in a way because it locks down on all the illigal things on the web. But, at the same time it ristricts many sites that we use in our everyday life like google or parts of wikipedia. So i think that if SOPA were to take place as a law our society would be restricted ever so much but helped in the tineist way that it would probaly change our lifes as we kow it.

@ Klopso/Katniss - Great points! SOPA could be good for people who have their music/videos/movies stolen on the internet. Every person who illegally downloads an mp3 or a divx movie is breaking the law. The rightful creators/owners of those products do not receive any money for their hard work. Although to some people, downloading a Justin Bieber song illegally might not seem like stealing, it is in fact exactly that.....stealing.

On the other hand, SOPA could be a bad thing in respect to access of information that would otherwise be inaccessible to the general public.

Obviously, this is just my opinion and I haven't done enough research into the details of SOPA to really understand it all. There are pros and cons to everything. In this case, there are pros and cons to both.

I think censorship means to block something or someone out of your website or something like that. Or it means to block not just one person but maybe an entire city or maybe country if possible for the on that blocks it.

In my opinon it is both good and a bad thing because it can stop people from downloading the wrong info but a bad thing because it can cause a uprise which is very or not a good thing to have going

Censorship is covering something up or making it unable yo be viewd. If censorship is good or not (in my opinion) depends on what is being covered up. If it is bad or illegal things like piracy over the Internet then I believe it is good. That being said I think if it's something the government doesn't want us a the public to know it is bad because everyone should have the freedom to read and learn and know what they want to.

Censorship is blocking somthing from the public and it makes it unable to veiw.In my opinion it depeneds on what their are blocking like if it is illegal things then I would be okay with it because it is illegal and I would just probly just ignor it.If the government cvers sommething like a really relible website I would be cureous to what they blocked for.

You do not have to work on it today. Simply work on making the changes to your summary files using the feedback from your partners as well as the additional information that you need to add (as discussed in class today).

Definition: Censorship means to block, cover-up or delete from the public eye.
In my opinion, I think censorship is good and bad. If it's something inappropriate or illegal, then I think it should be censored. But, I also think that it's bad because your taking away the freedom to learn or read what you want.

Censoring means to block out or hide something. I think that censorship can be good or bad, depending on whatever is being censored. For example, if you censor a website that is used for a bad reason, then you are doing the right thing. If you censor a website that is reliable and useful, you are doing the wrong thing. I wouldn't blame the government if they blocked out a few pages from wikipedia, considering it is made by people.

Censorship means to block something from happening. I think censorship is good and bad. It is good because people do illegal things like download something from the internet, put inappropriate things etc. But I also think it is bad because most of the websites that are blocked are the most used websites. Like Wikipedia is one of the most used site for information and now it is blocked.

Censorship is to block something or remove or hide, I think censorship is bad because all the websites that are being blocked are the most best or most used sites like for example facebook, Facebook is one of the most used sites to chat with people all over the world, Wikipedia, Wikipedia is most used too, to get information but I don't think it's the most reliable website.

@ Greg - Do not post any email addresses. If you need to send it to a classmate, simply email it to them.

You need to work on your Summary files. Improve them by making the suggestions given in class and the suggestions from your partners.

Well my opinion Is I think Censorship is good and bad because I think is good to block it off because some stuff on the internet is very bad and shold be blocked off for a good reason and I think they should only block off the things that arent good for people to view and that we sholdent know or learn. But I think its bad because we should all be able to have a freedom to go online and if we have to search something on the internet I think we should be able to do that because also you can learn and it will help your research skills in life and some of the websites that they are banning people use those websites like every day such as facebook, youtube and other sorts of websites and I think they shouldent ban those websites because alot of people in the world uses those websites alot.

Censorship is like blocking people their right of speech.
I think censorship is bad because of for example google gets blocked almost every child will not be able to do online homework or even updated research, and also because google is a very popular search engine that makes a lot of money.

Censorship is to block something so that it cannot be viewed by other people.

SOPA is both good and bad. The good thing about SOPA is the fact that it will block any illegal site. Since, the U.S. doesn't own the world, the only have the ability to censor any infringing domain name based in the U.S. but a lot of good websites we know of today are based in the U.S. such as Google and Facebook. They would probably abuse this power and completely stop you from expressing yourself on the internet. In a way, they are trying to control the internet which, in my opinion, is impossible.

TL;DR:
Good - They are taking down illegal websites
Bad - They will take your freedom out of the internet
