Today, we started the day off by learning about belief systems. Students started exploring how belief systems have changed over time. Our class discussion revolved around belief systems, values, religion, philosophy, etc. The discussion was rich and thought provoking. We all learned something new today and it really got all of us thinking. Our discussion also revolved around how our beliefs, values, and identity is often influenced by our environment and upbringing. In the afternoon, students learned about pH with acids and bases. We will start our pH indicator lab tomorrow!

IMPORTANT:
LEARNING:
1.) MATH: Workbook questions due by the end of the day tomorrow.

2.) LA/NOVEL APPROACH: Book club session tomorrow.

3.) SOCIAL STUDIES: Read and complete #1-3 on pg. 109 in Socials textbook.

4.) POST A RESPONSE:

Today, we started learning about belief systems. Discussions are a great way to learn and research shows it is one of the best. It gets students thinking about the topics of discussion. The questions you come up with provoke thought and curiosity as was shown in class today. And remember, questions are one of the BIG 6 learning principles.
LEARNING INTENTION: I can ask 3 questions about what was discussed in class today or from today's readings.
SUCCESS CRITERIA:
1.) Paragraph format (intro, body, and conclusion)
2.) Intro must be engaging based on what was learned in class today.
3.) In your questions/supporting sentences, you must include at least 3 of the terms you
learned about in Social Studies class today. Refer to pg. 104-109 of your Social Studies
textbook.
4.) Do your best to make your questions thought provoking.
5.) Respond to at least one question from one of your classmates. You can respond with
questions or a thoughtful response.

Today, we learned about world views in social studies. In my opinion these subjects are very interesting. The main things we learned about were region, spirituality, and philosophy. Religion is an organized collection of beliefs, cultural systems, and world views that relate humanity to an order of existence. Many religions have narratives, symbols, and sacred histories that are intended to explain the meaning of life and/or to explain the origin of life or the Universe. Spirituality involves the recognition of a feeling or sense or belief that there is something greater than myself, something more to being human than sensory experience, and that the greater whole of which we are part is cosmic or divine in nature. Philosophy is the study of underlying things. This means philosophy tries to understand the reasons or basis for things. It also tries to understand how things should be. "Philosophia" is the Ancient Greek word for the "love of wisdom". Philosophy is a way of thinking about the world, the universe, and society. Worlds views, values, and beliefs vary from person to person. The way you see the world is up to you and you only, what is your world view?

Our beliefs spread across our imaginations which help build our character. Though great minds may think alike, they also may think entirely differently. Through what we believe in, our actions and how we decide to interact with the world help determine who we are. Everyone’s worldview is different, this is what we learned in class today. With this in mind, we also learnt about the differences between religions, spirituality, and philosophy. To sympathize, religions are beliefs that a religious community believe in. Though there are multiple religions, there is no right or wrong. Secondly, spirituality is a personal reverence in which you cannot obtain or seek from others. Lastly, philosophy is the study of ideas. This is where people try to search for the answer as to why we are here and what is Earth’s true nature? Though, the three share a similarity. Each topic has a goal in which they try to find an answer as to how and why we are on Earth. Personally, I am Christian. From my worldview, I often wonder as to what goes beyond the universe and further? Though this is a wide topic that would take time that’s probably unmeasurable, I also must wonder as to who we are and if there was something deeper that we didn’t know about. These are lingering questions that people most likely ask themselves, though through the time that we currently have, I believe that each action and word we use is valuable. This is why everyone is entitled to their beliefs, therefore, the world can be over watched by billions of perspectives so that it can stay well.

What are the belief systems and why is it so important? All of people’s experiences, beliefs, and values affect their worldview. Everything around us and everything we do affects the way we see the world, this varies and differs for every individual in the world. A religion is a system of beliefs, rituals, and rules shared by people in a religious community. While a religion is the belief system of a whole community, spirituality is personal reverence of something sacred. In addition, Philosophy is the study of ideas, to seek answers about human existence and the nature of reality. All these three tie up and are connected because they involve a quest to understand the world and our place in it. With this in mind, I do have a few questions towards this topic. To me, I’ve always wondered what happens after death? This question intrigued me because there is no evidence towards what happens to us after we die, and that is a reason why I find it so interesting because we know almost nothing about it. Another question that I have; what does it mean to live a good life? Although I want a life to be filled with joy and purpose, I also want it to be worthwhile. And lastly, what are your own beliefs?

Today, We learned about the world's views as a class in social studies. To me this was interesting to learn about. The main things I heard before zoning out for a bit was: religion, spirits and something about artifacts that had some unknown origin of who wore it. Religion is about some belief's, culture and cultural systems, and the world's view's that relate to a order of existence and a side of fries. Lots of religions have a narrative, a symbol, and sacred histories. Spirits or Spirituality is sometimes confused and some people say its a religion I think. It involves the recognition of a feeling of/or susne or belief that there is something greater than You or myself, the only other thing I remember is that only your or you're own soul can teach you. Philosophy Is when I didn't pay attention but I think it mentioned that it was a love or passion for wisdom.

Many people have a religion, or belief system. A belief system is a group of people who have faith in and believe in the existence of a higher power, like a god. A few of the largest belief systems are Christianity, Hinduism, and Islam. I personally have no religion - I'm not, by most definitions, an atheist, because I don't actively believe there is no higher power or afterlife, but I don't actively believe in them either. A few questions I have are: is there an afterlife or a god? Why are humans so much more advanced than other animals? How does consciousness work? There are lots of questions to be asked about life, and the people who do ask them, and try to answer them, are philosophers. These questions do interest me a little, but not enough to try and answer them - my worldview is more 'this is what you have, do with it what you will.' However, many people do like to know exactly what brought them to where they are, and how the place around them came to be. I just try to enjoy life as it is - in my opinion, it's too short not to. Everyone has different beliefs and worldviews, and it's important to embrace all of them.

Very broad definitions:

Christianity is a belief based around Jesus of Nazareth, and his teachings, life, and death.

I did a bit of research on Hinduism, and it seems to be a general term for many things - I don't really understand yet.

Islam is the belief of Allah, the only God of Islam. The Prophet Muhammed is also a big part of Islam. In Arabic, islām means 'surrender' - Islam is all about surrendering to the will of Allah.

Religious people may say we';; sorted into two places based off our actions for the afterlife or die into nothingness. So, what is the meaning of life? This is a question frequently asked by everyone and it's normal to have different perspectives and beliefs. However, without knowing why we are here puts our actions with no consequence which is most likely to be the downfall of humanity in that case. I mean if there is no after or reason, why should we care about what we do? Of course, being able to be happy for moments is enough for me to have value in what I do, but I can't help but wonder sometimes. Lastly, is what we see really the truth? Don't we misread or remember things when they were otherwise? Is what we se processed in our minds before to arrange reality? In fact, it's not far off after knowing your brain deletes memories they find unhelpful. Evidently, we won't know these answers till we reach the end and personally I'm willing to wait as long as I exist.

Firstly, religion is a beliefs, rituals and rules created by a religious group or community. However, spirituality is a personal reference of something sacred. Lastly, philosophy, is of ideas to seek answers about human existence and nature of reality. Our perspectives are all different. Therefore, if I agree to to eat chocolates, however, some may disagree to my choice. Having to say that, my mother was born in Hong Kong, so as she grew up, she attended a Catholic school. Therefore, that may change my beliefs. However, my father was born in China, he and his family believed in Buddhism an that also may affect my beliefs. After all that, I came to a question that really made me curious. During, the video, they mentioned about the great king "Sutton Hoo" was discovered in England, I wondered how Basil Brown was able to discover Sutoon Hoo, even though he was buried in such a great depth. Overall, I was really fascinated and learned plenty throughout our lesson.

Today I learned about religion, spirituality, and philosophy. Religion is a system of beliefs, and one of the largest belief systems in the world in Christianity. People worship gods in churches, and this is a good example of religion. Secondly, spirituality. Spirituality is to believe in something greater than one other, and believing in spirits etc. Finally, philosophy is a study of ideas. It is mainly made up with seeking answers to questions for example; "why do I think what I think?" or "why do I do what I do.?" In the other hand, I also have questions, like "why are most of the population are somewhat religious?" "Why do they believe in spirits if there is no way to prove it?" and "Why do they want answers to things that science have already solved?" In conclusion, most people in the world have certain beliefs.

We are currently learning about religion, beliefs, spirituality, and philosophy at school right now. These are all very important as religion, as beliefs and religions can change your life as your beliefs can change the way you do things, say things, and think in different ways. Some of the most common religions are Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, and Buddhism. These religions all believe in different things but some things can be similar, such as the afterlife, believers in Islam and Christianity believe in the afterlife as it is promised by god in their religions. Religions can cause war as well, mainly because some believe on something while others don't. While spirituality is when you believe that something is always bigger than you and people who are spiritual often think about their soul over their physical body. A person who studies on these things or in general thoughts is a philosopher. My top 3 questions about these topics are mainly about why some people started to believe in religions or such. Such as, why do people believe in religions? What causes people to start believing in religions? Or why does one become spiritual? These are all questions of mine and I hope to have an answer to them one day.

today during class we learned about social studies and the way of believing, spirituality and philosophy. for ways of believing we used clues for what happened. the thing I remember hearing and read was about a old boat shattered a ancient gold I think helmet that was for king rædweld. I don't remember anything that happened but i read about spiritualty, the difference between spiritualty and religion and philosophy. the only thing i remember was that spiritually is a personal reverence that is sacred. the difference of spiritualty is that spiritualty is about exploring matters and religion is a system of belief. The word philosophy is the word for love of wisdom. i didn't have any questions of what happened.

Everyone doesn't think the same. We all think differently, because of our BK and our experiences and our beliefs. Today, we learned about Religions, Spirituality, and Philosophy. Religion is a belief that is practiced by people who are religious. Spirituality is when a person believes in spirits and they want to know the meaning of life. Philosophy is studying human ideas. People think about why humans exist and the nature of reality. Everybody is unique and there are no right and wrong answers to people's beliefs.

First, how long do philosophers think about a question before they move on? Do they think about several at the same time? Second, Where does religion come from? If you aren't able to prove it is true or false, how do you get others to believe? Lastly, do you think that Atheism is a religion? Norse Paganism. Hellenic Pantheon. Sikhism. How many more can you name?

World view is basically just how someone see's the world. An example from the pages we read today, someone who grows up thinking every living thing should be respected might start a campaign to protect a rare species of animals, mean while someone who grew up not caring will. Unfortunately, as your example stated, Christianity is a belief and the only living proof of proof that it is real is through text. The same can be said about other religions. If there was specific proof that it WAS actually real, then probably almost everyone would convert to worshipping that higher power. We don't have any specific proof that even one of these religions are real, but we can always read the texts.

Today in Social Studies, we learned about how our beliefs, values and experiences can change the way we view the world. There are 3 main beliefs. Religion, spirituality, and philosophy. This was a very interesting subject, as this made me think what could've been the push of humanity to make theses assumptions. Three questions that I have with these in mind are, when was the first religion started and how? Was spirituality invented by a religious person? Confucius was considered a philosopher in China, how does that relate to religion and spirituality in terms of thinking that there is a higher power?

Being in a religon is believing or worshipping a leader, a god, goddess, buddist, etc. Though religon seems like an easy topic to comprehend, religon goes in deeper. There are more than one religon and depenind on the person, believing different religons can change the way you think and change your perspective towards something. Spirituality is your own person's respect or belief of someone/something. Spirituality however, is not religon. You can still be in a religon and also have spirituality. Spirituality can also be finding an object or thing cute and pretty looking even though it isn't alive. It also doesn't have to be an object. It can be your great grandparents that might be deceased or a spirit. Philosophy. To be a philosopher, you would often have questions like "How can we know what we know?" and "Why do we think what we think?". In other words, even if scientific research can answer those questions, philosophers will still look deeper into the topic. Like "How was earth formed? By different elements? Or did it just appear?" Think of it almost as an inquiry. I'm glad I learned about these things today but I also did come across some questions. Like, even if spirituality is your own personal thoughts, can more than one person have the same spirituality and think the same ways? And how did philosophers come to these questions? The questions philosophers make are like impossible questions, so how do they try to solve them? And lastly, is it possible to make your own religon? Spirituality is your own person's respect or belief of someone/something. Spirituality however, is not religion. You can still be in a religion and also have spirituality. Spirituality can also be finding an object or thing cute and pretty looking even though it isn't alive. It also doesn't have to be an object. It can be your great grandparents that might be deceased or a spirit. Philosophy. To be a philosopher, you would often have questions like "How can we know what we know?" and "Why do we think what we think?". In other words, even if scientific research can answer those questions, philosophers will still look deeper into the topic. Like "How was earth formed? By different elements? Or did it just appear?" Think of it almost as an inquiry. I'm glad I learned about these things today but I also did come across some questions. Like, even if spirituality is your own personal thoughts, can more than one person have the same spirituality and think the same ways? And how did philosophers come to these questions? The questions philosophers make are like impossible questions, so how do they try to solve them? And lastly, is it possible to make your own religion? How do other people make a religion and make so many other people believe in that religion? To sum it up, religion, philosophy, and spirituality has a more deeper meaning than just beliefs, questions, and spirits. There is much more I don't know about and I hope to learn more about it in the future

When we talk about the afterlife and spirits we think about how its a religion and how it might not even be true. We think this since our society has a lot of culture around religion, philosophy, spirituality, and Confucianism. Lets talk about each of them individually. Firstly religion. What is religion/ Religion is a system, or/and ritual shared by a group of people. Secondly philosphy,is when the study of ideas. Philosophy is when we when we understand how society works and understanding our place in society. Whats Spirituality? Spirituality is when we connecting to the spiritual way of our lives., For example finding someting more personal inside ourselves. Spirituality is more like when we are seeking to connect eith something within ourselves so that we have a reason to seek something more personal and within ourselves. Lastly, Confucianism is when another branch of philosophy thats more based on morals and principles. Confucianism is from a chinese philopher who lived 2.5 thousand years ago. Confucius belived in indness, loyalty and obedience. Confusious is now very important and visible in culture today through some of the most important values in our lives. One really big question I have is how the timeline matches up with early humans and the bible. These are impossible to proven, especially since these events occurred much to long ago. How did we come to believe? What strange thoughts were put into heads? That we call beliefs. Did the things in the past actually happen or was it some crazy story that people started to believe? I don't know, and no-one will for sure. To try and make some of them true we have philosophy. It tries to answer things, some of them are, but others aren't. What if I or you want to believe in things that are not proven anyways? This time spirituality jumps in. What brings the mind, body and spirit together. You can believe through spirituality for countless things. How about the people that want to value their beliefs? There is religion. Religion is the practice of a ritual based on beliefs. Sometimes it does not make sense, for example like drilling holes into others heads... Though sometimes It makes some more sense, like praying to connect with god or a god. Can you be more of these things? Or in-between them? Yes you can. You can be spiritual and religious at the same time. A spiritual person might meditate, do yoga, or communicate with elders to discuss possible answers to their questions. A religious person could practice their beliefs by attending community events such as ceremonies and rituals. Spiritual people may or may not be religious and religious people may or may not be spiritual. This brings us to philosophy. Philosophy is the study of the fundamental nature of knowledge, reality and existence. Philosophers tend to make theories on how things work using logic, to seek answers of things that are seemingly impossible to prove otherwise. Religion, spirituality, and philosophy are all similar in a way, because they all try to solve all the mysteries and truly understand the world, because they all change the way one views the world. A question I always think about is how and why everything exists, about where it all came from. How do we have a massive universe with trillions of galaxies? Where did all that matter come from? Molecules are made from atoms; atoms are made of protons, neutrons, and electrons; and even these are made of smaller things called quarks — it seems like the list is infinite. These questions could be impossible to answer, but people will continue thinking and coming up with new theories. Until we get to the bottom of all this, the thing that is truly frustrating and eternal is our search for answers.

Cultures can be built around religion or beliefs and destroyed by them too. In class today, we discussed different beliefs and religions that people have. I don’t mind what others believe in as long as it isn’t hurting anyone even though I personally don’t believe in a higher power or lack there of. I am however, open to the possibilities of either. I find it very interesting to observe how by growing up with parents that do or don’t believe in a religion, the things you learn and the way in which you are taught, and those who you meet can effect your beliefs, actions, morals, and your overall identity. This is all fascinating to know that everything that you experience effects you in so many ways. On another note, many thought provoking and philosophical questions may be asked about the beliefs that religions have. A somewhat strange question I think of some times is that, if we are not the only beings in the universe, and there are aliens, and a higher power is real, dose that mean that they too have a god watching over them? On another note, many religions believe there is a life after death. If this is true, dose that mean that when you go to the afterlife, do you bring a physical form with you or are you just a thought? A memory? Could you feel? These are interesting questions that I have thought about a few times. Lastly, to leave you on a nice little existential thought, if the universe is infinite, and there is no higher power, and we are but a speck in the cosmos, dose anything we do really matter? Is there a point to what we do? Is it all just pointless? These are questions to think about.

They were “created” thousands of years ago so we don’t know for sure and we could have just misinterpreted stuff. There’s a lot I don’t know about spirituality and religion so I hope to learn more.
