WORD CHOICE

WORD CHOICE in writing is important!

Today, students demonstrated outstanding self-regulation at all points in the day! This included self-regulating themselves coming into the school, during our math and language arts lessons, walking in the halls, lunch/read aloud, and our physical health education class in the gym. Students were also very engaged in demonstrating and reinforcing their learning during a math quiz on divisibility rules, identifying errors in writing, and dribbling, passing, performing a jump-shot, and doing a layup in basketball. We ended the day with a trip to the playground!

When you write a paragraph, do you check the writing for any mistakes? Every time you write something, there is always a different way to say it either good or bad. Mistakes are commonly found in English frequently and we do nothing about it. I think Word Choice is important because it makes your writing more professional. Like say you are writing a job application and you make a spelling mistake, the boss isn't going to take you seriously. Another reason why Word Choice is important is because you might find yourself writing about drugs and you forget a word so instead of you writing "NO MORE DRUGS", you write "MORE DRUGS". I also think that the video was a very good example to Word Choice. The blind, homeless man was helped so much, all with just different words. How will you write your next paragraph and how will you mark it?

Another reason why Word Choice is important is because you might find yourself writing about AHEM drugs and you forget a word so instead of you writing "NO MORE DRUGS", you write "MORE DRUGS". The second last sentence is very passive. Word choice is not capitalized btw. You should separate your paragraphs and ideas and be more clear on what you're saying. Please revise your work!

I think you didn't need the "more", or capitalizing Word Choice in the sentence "I think Word Choice is important because it makes your writing more professional". Like say doesn't sound very professional, you can use other words like ""for example"

@ Nathan - Remember when you give people suggestions for improvements, you must do it in a respectful manner. We don't tell people their writing is 'horrible'. This is not good 'WORD CHOICE' and is not SOARING behaviour. We will review how to give descriptive feedback in class next week. We do appreciate you trying to help people. Have you heard of the word choice? Has anyone ever said that someone writes skillfully? Word choice is a colourful way of using words while enlightening the reader. Word choice is important in this society because some can use word choice to persuade the reader into doing something they may have not done or better, have interest and open their eyes to the situation that has been happening right in front of our eyes. Now let’s say, there is a blind man on the streets with the sign: ‘I’m blind please help’. Most people won’t really pay attention to them as they may be busy or that they have their own problems, but what if they used word choice? What if we could write it in a way that people would pay interest? In this example, a girl had walked past and decided to change up the sign a bit, no not with decorations but with the words. She had written: ‘It’s a beautiful day and I can’t see it.’ Soon, numerous people start giving change and money they have for him as they realize just the amount of things he misses out on. As you just read, that was an example for word choice and how it could make a difference on the situation, I wouldn’t take someone seriously about their claim if they wrote like a 1st grader. Imagine being an employee for like Roblox and have a kid report someone’s account while breaking three of the policy rules in the writing (swearing etc.). Word choice could make a huge impact on how people review things, like how Voldemort manipulated his clients to give him their stuff to put horcruxes in. My point is, word choice is an important key to reaching your goals and passing in grades, work, and much more, if we all took more time out of our days to learn about word choices and how to write them... maybe we could change their perspective.

Words is a vital thing important to everyone's day to day lives. for example which sentence is better Im blind please help or is it a beautiful day outside im blind. There is a big difference, better word choice is what helps people understand. By using words smarter, you can make a paragraph into two or three paragraphs because of you're words will be longer and more understandable and you can save a little more time so you can look and read it so it makes sense. HOW DID THE BLIND MAN WRITE ON THAT CARDBOARD, and why did the stranger have a sharpie in the purse. It still got the message to me and probably others too.

I do not want you to leave not knowing what I said, so, that is why I make sure to use the correct words. To talk and be able to express what we feel, see, taste and hear is a privilege, it is not one that everyone gets. That is why we must be grateful and use what we have and make use of it. So when I speak, I do not want you to leave thinking I just had to say something, because I had something to say. In a way, when you speak, the words you use can be heard differently. If I simply said "I like to eat." rather than "I find pizza delicious.", would you find me interesting? The way you shape your sentence and words can impact others differently, you need to make sure you're not always repeating a word and to use appropriate words. Use synonyms and abbreviations to change the flow of a sentence or the meaning behind it. Our word choices can change many things. We could choose to stay silent, but if we speak, we can show that we have a message. The words we choose can tell our listeners a different meaning depending on what we'd like to say. It is vital to show our passion and not hurt anyone as we do. Everyone's perspectives and opinions are different, with the words that we choose, we want them to understand what we say in OUR perspective. This way, others can understand our message in our point of view.

Can you imagine how word choices are important? Lets say you are going to interview a person to get a job, and without right word choices, you won't get that job because of your first impression. But if you make a good impression with your words, not just that you would be hired, but you could be promoted to a better one. Based on the video I have watched, I learned that people will be nicer with a choice of words, for example "give me money" is not good enough, but you could say "I am desperate. Please, I need money to survive." Word choices can make a big difference by choosing the right one, but choosing the wrong one could make your life miserable depending on what you said. Word choices are one of the most relevant things you need to learn!

After watching the video. I realized how important word choice is. Now first, what is word choice? Word choice is the way on how you use your words. For example, in this video the first sentence on the carboard sign was “I AM BLIND PLEASE HELP”. After the lady changing it to “Its a beautiful day and I can't see it”, it changed how the reader though of this. Word choice is super important because it can help you when you are writing a paragraph to your teacher about word choice and also if you want to change the readers thoughts. Even though some say word choice isn't important, it can convince people to do things that they wouldn’t do if they thought about it. That’s why stores do 1.99 instead of 2 dollars. Word choice changed their perspective on things. Word choice is also important because it tell the reader your perspective or just tells the reader what they need to know in an easier format. That’s why I think word choice is something you should definitely take interest too!

The magic of words. Words are what change people, if you use them correctly that is. Have you ever read a normal chapter book and you just cant visualize the text? That is not your visualizing skills, the book is guilty. If a text has well described visuals the rest is up to you, simply imagine! Here are some examples:

1.) They had arrived! Josh looked around and there was lots of houses.

2.) after that long, frightening journey Josh wanted to rest. He looked around there was an endless neighborhood of identical bricked houses that faded to the nights fog. he had finally made it home...

As shown in the video, the lady's words were more appealing than the man's words. The text made the readers sad, they felt bad about him. Here are the strategies that the lady used.
She used CAPITAL letters which are more appealing than lowercase letters. She also used bold letters.

Word choice is so incredibly important because nobody wants to read a plain, boring and dull text. What we want to see is interesting, strong and deep words that can grab your readers attention. For example, which phrase sounds more interesting and appealing to you? ‘I’m blind please help’ or ‘It’s a beautiful day and I can’t see it’ The first phrase brings out and boldly states the point, but the second phrase adds more perspective and shows a very strong and deep meaning. Instead of ignoring, the people showed mercy and kindness to the homeless by giving him money. The man thanked her at the end because of what she has done for him. What's a way you can sharpen your sentence? To make it better than the first? Why not try fixing your word choice? Word choice, is a way of making your sentence better. "Please help, I'm blind" and "It's a beautiful day, and I can't see it." Those two phrases are very similar but the second one was much more well written. That's what word choice is. It can make a sentence sound so much prettier and powerful. In summary, word choice is a great skill that could do astonishing things to your work from something boring that's hard to read, to something alluring and capturing.

For example, in the video attached to today's PAR, a blind homeless man has a sign that says "IM BLIND PLEASE HELP". Eventually, a young woman comes along. At first she just walks past him, but then she turns back and decides to help him. She changes his sign to have better word choice, which helped a lot and made people donate a lot more. Some words are also more descriptive than others, and provide a more detailed mental picture. An example of this is the word 'talk'. This word can be improved to be more descriptive in many ways, depending on the way the character is talking. You could say 'shout', 'whisper', or 'exclaim'. These all mean basically the same thing, but in a different way. In conclusion, word choice is a big part of writing in many ways.

Word choice. It can change everything. We can see this in the Power of Words video. There was a blind man sitting on the sidewalk with a sign that said "I'm blind please help". He was getting some money thrown at him, but not often. Then a kind lady walked by and saw his sign. She thought that she could make the sign attract more people. So she wrote on the back of the sign, "It's a beautiful day but I can't see it". Her choice of words attracted more people. These people gave him several coins each, and didn't throw them at him. Instead, they put them directly in front of his hands. Another example of why word choice is important is: if you don't choose your words correctly, you might offend some people a lot. You might offend someone if you say "I hate the President of The United States". But if you say "I'm not really a fan of The President of The United States", they are more likely to be just fine. Choosing your words carefully can help you continue to have friends. In some cases though, it would not really matter how you say it. Both of these sentences that I stated would offend a person that loves the current POTUS. Word choice is something that we need to use for most things that have anything to do with writing and speaking. Carefully choosing your words can be invaluable.

Instead, they put them directly in front of his hands. Another example of why word choice is important is: if you don't choose your words correctly, you might offend some people a lot. You might offend someone if you say "I hate the President of The United States". But if you say "I'm not really a fan of The President of The United States", they are more likely to be just fine. Choosing your words carefully can help you continue to have friends. In some cases though, it would not really matter how you say it. Both of these sentences that I stated would offend a person that loves the current POTUS (President of The United States). Word choice is something that we need to use for most things that have anything to do with writing and speaking. Carefully choosing your words can be invaluable.

A method to do so is by picking colourful words that cause readers to visualize and connect to what we try to express. In the video, the words which the girl used allowed everyone to connect to what the blind man was experiencing, while what he wrote was bold and dull. In conclusion, choosing the correct words forces readers to connect to our descriptions, and ultimately remembering our ideas.

What is word choice? Word choice is the choice of words you use when you write a paragraph the slightest of words can change the whole thing, in the video the blind man simply wrote "please help im blind" but the woman came and changed it up to :its a beautiful day and i cant see" she doesent really mean its a beautiful day, its a metaphor to get sympathy, no offense. Read the two kinds of word choices and think, which one would you give your spare coins to? I would give mine to the second way because it simply has a better choice of words and its very sad and i would just give it to him because i would've felt bad, now im gonna write two seperate sentences and your gonna choose whoch one is better and comment 1 or 2. Here we go! "It was a beautiful day outside" or "it was a beautiful sunny day outside, the birds were chirping and John was having a blast with his friends!-" now you honestly know which one is better, dont make me throw up reading everyone saying 1. Lastly word choice is useful overall! From doing your school work to applying for a job, no one wants to accept someone who spelled "someone " wrong by accident! Take care!

Word choice is when you’re writing something and you’re using different choices on how you use the word, like sometimes a few different words can change the whole meaning, like in the video the blind man wrote “please help i’m blind” but then someone came and changed the sign to “it’s a beautiful day and I can’t see”. Even though it doesn’t seem like that much of a difference, it changed the whole meaning.

Word choice is when you’re writing something and you’re using different choices on how you use the word, sometimes a few different words can change the whole meaning, like in the video the blind man wrote “please help i’m blind” but then someone cane and changed the sign to “its a beautiful day and I can’t see”. Even though it doesn’t seem like that much of a difference, it changed the whole meaning.

Example 1: There were leves on the sidewalk
Example 2: There were bright orange and yellow leaves on the uneven sidewalk

Which one do you think is better, obviously it’s example 2, it has more detail, and example 1 has a spelling mistake, if you put the first example in a story and hand it in you’ll get a worse mark.
