Yesterday, your PAR was related to social media and friendships. Today, we want you to dig a little deeper into how social media affects everyone. Watch today's video and use your personal connections to complete the PAR. Make sure you take this seriously. Mr. Fisher and I hope that we can build your background knowledge enough to help you become more critical in the decisions you make daily when you're using your social media, chats, etc. #ThinkBeforeYouClick

Digital citizenship is something that we should always keep in our minds when you are using the internet. There is a video called Teen Voices: the pressure to stay connected. It talks about how when using the internet, your friends want you to stay connected and talk to them longer. Sometimes they will say things to pressure you into staying on longer. That is what the video is about. It is about some teens who are talking about the pressure that social media and their friends bring on them. It talks about good thing and bad things about it. A goods thing about it is that you can connect with your friends easily if you are lonely or if you have a question about something. A bad thing about social media is that it is time consuming. I can sort of relate to this, I sometime watch videos and I want to watch the next episode, so I do. Then it goes on and on until I realize what time it is. It can be very time consuming. Just remember, don't spend so much time on the internet. Spend time with your friends and family.

Have you ever been on your phone for hours on end? I think we all have. Technology has slowly, but surely taking over our lives. Kids have bin spending a long time on their devices, neglecting other things, like homework. Today I watched a video about the pressure to stay connected, and I'll be talking about the big idea.

I think the big idea is about how social media is addictive. In the video the teens say that they spend hours on their devices. For example one teen says that he watched the first season of a show in one day! One connection is that I used to watch TV almost every time that I was free, and when my mom wasn't home. It's a good thing I don't do it anymore. A pro of social media is that you get to stay connected with friends. On the other hand a con is that you have a pressure to stay connected, which means you might be on your phone to much. I think the reason that people are on their phones a lot, is because phones and apps are meant to be addicting.

In conclusion social media is addictive, and people shouldn't spend to much time on their devices.

The big idea that I took away from this video was that social media can be very addictive and time consuming. It's also sometimes peer presure that gets you involved in social media. Sometimes when I'm hanging out with my friends and they go on there phones it feels akward if I dont also do it, I dont really like those situations.

In conclusion I think that social media in general can be addictive but helpful if used properly and responsibly.

Staying connected. We, humans, love to stay connected to one another, and talk about everything. There can be pros and cons to this.

I think the big idea for the video is that we tend to spend a lot of time on social media. Its okay to spend some time chatting with your friends, but we should get up and do some fun activities. Sometimes, playing a game or maybe shopping is better than looking up stuff online with your phone.

Moreover, I have a personal connection to this video. On of the kids said that they don't want to miss out on any big event online. We, humans, always want to be in on the biggest event. I feel like this is the same for me because I like to catch up the daily news and what's happening with the world. When I miss something that my friends caught, I felt like I am left out from the good information. An inference I can make that I can make is that when I get my phone I will probably get addicted to it. I really don't like missing out on the big news.

Lastly, one pro of being connected is that you know what is going on in the world. You can have early warnings or maybe extra information. You can also easily contact friends or family in case of a emergency or just for fun. The down side to staying connected is that we tend to spend a lot of time on screens. Also, when we miss something, we feel obliged to look for it. For example, if I didn’t here yesterdays news, I want to focus on it. I might forget everything else.

In conclusion, I think the big idea for the video is that we should stay connected but not to the point where we are glued to our screens.

When using social media/the internet, I find that it's like quicksand, slowly but steadily dragging me into the depths of the online world. I think that the big idea of this video is that we need to be more aware of the influence social media has on our lives. I don't feel a need to stay connected but maybe others do. My connection is when I'm scrolling through memes, videos, etc, and I don't even notice the time slipping by. Then I have to rush through my homework, which shows how terrific my time management skills are. There are also instances where I'm aware of the time but insist on one more video or minute. Every. Single. Time. As I said, it's like quicksand, dragging me down.

After watching this video, an inference I have is that others feel the same as I do, sinking into the depths of the internet. My reasoning is because there must be a reason for the creators to see a need to make this video. With that in mind, social media is a great way to keep up with everything around you, but there are many downsides. For example, to some people, it can be very addicting, myself included. Another con is that it's harder to decipher somebody's intentions. They could be pulling a prank or trying to scam you, but you might not be able to tell since you can't see/hear the signs. In conclusion, I need to be more aware of the time I spend on social media or the internet in general.

Social media has taken the phrase "staying connected" to another level. With social media, it is so easy to feel connected to all of your friends and family, even though they're not physically with you. However, there is a point where you may feel pressured to stay on social media for hours on end, just so you can get a feeling of satisfaction of being 'up-to-date' with others. This is what I believe is the big idea of this video. With social media, it is very easy to feel like you know all of the latest news, and that you're connected to your friends and family. However there is a point where it can be less communicating and more addicting. You may feel like you need to be on social media every aspect of your day, and that if you're not, you'll feel left out or lonely. There is in fact a point where it's too far, and you'll spend all of your time on your devices. Personally, I can connect to this because I remember a few years back, I was unhealthily obsessed with my Instagram follower count, and I'd constantly ask my sister for shoutouts. An inference I can make is that many teenagers that use social media worry about their follower count, etc., in an unhealthy way. It becomes so obsessive social media simply becomes a competition rather than a platform to connect with others. Like everything, social media has its pros. For instance, social media is such a fast, easy, and simple way to stay connected with old friends or far-away relatives. On the other hand, social media can be addicting to the point where it's not a platform to communicate with, but rather a platform to judge one's popularity.
Social media, when used correctly, can be extremely convenient and entertaining. On the other hand, it can be very catastrophic if used incorrectly.

We all use social media, we sometimes use social media for hours. In my opinion, the big idea of the video is how teens are way too addicted to social media (I know people have done the same big idea). The reason we all use social media is mostly for education, friends or mainly entertainment. In my case I use social media for friends and entertainment (sometimes for education). Social media can be super addictive and for some people they tend to think that they have to be online 24/7, mostly because of youtube, instagram or some random website with games. Some things I learned from the video was that teens think they need to be online all the time because they don’t wanna miss out on any events that are happening. For example, when one of your friends or classmates asks everyone if they wanted to join them for bubble tea. But, you weren't online and seeing posts of everyone who were available and met up, it made them feel left out. Another reason why social media can be addictive for teens, is the shows they can watch online. In the video some people have said they use social media mostly for shows and youtube or something. I mean I can’t blame them. I do the same thing, but I don’t think I’m as addicted as some people. Next I'll be telling you 1 negative and 1 positive of social media. I’ll start with a positive, when you can’t find anything you needed for a project or assignment you can use the internet to find the answer. A negative is that there are a lot of scams and false information online, some people fell for some of these tricks and some people even lost real money over these scams. In conclusion, social media is great and bad at the same time and always remember to turn off your phone from time to time and get some fresh air or hang out with friends for awhile and not use social media.

The big idea of this video is that many people feel a pressure or dependency on social media/technology. One plus of social media is that you can always connect with people, even people who aren't near you. Although, this can also turn into a problem because there is a pressure to keep up with all the new content or posts. The aspect of this video that resonated with the most was the auto-play feature, I do find that I may intend to watch one video but end up watching five or more! One thing I noticed was that although the students recognized the negative implications of always being connected they still find it very hard to not use their phones all the time.

Social media has became a big part of our life, but it has it's own pros and cons. I think that the message they are trying to send through is that social media has taken way too much time in our lives and we should be aware so that we only use it to do the right thing. In the video, all the kids getting interviewed check their social media way too often and spend way too much time on it just because they keep in thinking that they can watch one more episode, they wasted way too much time. This is related to my life and probably a lot of other kid’s life too. I usually go home after school and say to myself that I’m only going to watch one video today, but end up watching at least five before I realize that I don’t have time for my homework. Now, I realized how harmful it can be to my life so I try to finish some of my work first and then watch something. Even though social media can be harmful in some ways if you use it correctly, then it can also benefit you in many ways. One way it can benefit you is that it can help you connect and not feel lonely when you are by yourself. You can also use social media to share things you love to do with other people. For instance, if I liked drawing maybe I can share some of my artworks with my friends.

In conclusion, I think people shouldn’t feel the pressure to stay connected since when you’re at school or at work, you have better things to do. Like, face to face conversations with your friends, learning new things, etc.

Today, we got another video about digital citizenship on the PAR. I think the big idea of this video is that social media can be very addictive. A pro about the pressure to stay connected is that you can talk to your friends even when you're not standing right in front of each other, and you can meet new people. A con is that people easily get addicted because social media is always changing. This also prevents kids from doing their homework, because who would rather do homework when you can wash videos? An inference I have is that more and more kids will start to use social media. A connection that I have is that I often get addicted when using social media.

“Did you hear about what happened with them?” “Did you see that new club that everyone’s going too?” Some teenagers and kids feel pressured to stay connected with social media because they feel like if they get off social media then they will be missing out on everything, the truth is many people feel the pressure to stay on social media.

The big idea I got out of this is that social media is addictive and In just one click of a button you will be hooked. Maybe you said to yourself “just one more minute” next thing you know it’s like 4 and you have to wake up at 6 for school. After getting addicted, just one day away from social media is just horrible because you go on it constantly everyday. So I think the big idea is addiction.
My connection is based on a tv show that I have been watching recently. The main character is a pushover and is easily pressured to do whatever he’s told to do, he’s friend is also a pushover too. The main character always gets pressured to do things that even he doesn’t want to do but he just does it. He’s also pressured to stay at school because he doesn’t just want to stay at home because he’s afraid he will miss out on what’s new at school even though he is terrified to go to school.
The cons of being pressured to stay on social media is probably feeling excluded if you miss a few days of being on Instagram or whatever social media app you use, because you might miss something “important” that will be the subject of everyone’s conversations you hear in the halls.
The pros of being pressured to stay on social media is if something really important is happening, and they are trying to get everyone to learn about it or help in some way you will already be pressured to go on social media to get yourself caught up on what’s happening.
Some negative things about being pressured is that you can lose yourself in social media and forget about what’s really important like family and good grades (if you think that’s important) and you would just spend 24/7 on social media locking yourself from the outside world and if you actually go on it constantly, losing it might mean a great deal to you.

In conclusion, being pressured to stay on social media isn’t that good but it has its pros (somewhat).

I believe the big idea of this video is that people get hooked and feel the urge to keep checking their phones to keep up with their notifications and instagram feed or whatever they use. My connection to this is that I am kind of the opposite the only thing I have in common with the people in the video is that I will just watch random YouTube videos for a long while the thing that I don't connect with is checking my phone all the time I don’t really get notifications because no-one texts me. I think a pro of social medias pressure to stay connected is that you get ALL THE NEWS a con of it is that you will be always checking your phone to see random news titles like “Kid drops teddy bear in toilet” or other random stuff.

Have you ever felt pressured like everyone is counting on you or you just want to fit in? Well in social media, many teens are pressured to stay connected with others. Although it is good to talk to friends, but if you keep looking at your phone like every time you get back home from school, when you drink water, go to bed, wake up. These are examples of how many teens keep track on social media. They are afraid to miss out of things. It is very addictive and nowadays, checking social media is like an everyday base. One connection I have is that I check on this website everyday in the morning, checking if I got any feedback from my peers.

In conclusion, I believe teens shouldn't pay attention to social media very often because they need to do things more productive then sit around starring at their phones.

A good thing about social media is that you could be up to date with the news. Something bad about social media are scams. A scam could say do you want free money? If you do put your credit card information here. A connection I have was when I was playing a video game. There was this ad that said do you want free money to this game? If you do put your username and password here.

If scams never existed, the world would be a better place. Never put any private information on the internet. Remember think before you click.

Social Media I would say has the exact same amount of pros as it has cons. I am absolutely telling the truth. People can easily benefit from Social Media, for example some people may find easy to do business or sell items on Social Media because of how many people use Social Media. But others may find this as the weapon of mass destruction being used against them, people can be mentally and physiologically scared by things people may write, or tell you.

I am going to be very honest, I have Never Ever Felt pressure to stay connected at all. I understand people want to spend their young days like a kid, to be honest I just want a clear and clean profile, so I do not hurt my future, which is why I tend to turn away offers from The Popular Kids, not to hurt them, but because I feel their are two outcomes to being in a popular group, they could be jerks and trouble makers that are trying to ruin everyone's reputation, on the other hand they could be nice and accepting friends. Even though this may seem like a good deal, I simply would not take my chances.

Moving on Social Media can benefit people in many ways. I have a reputation to be a decent photographer, for example I have a account on GuruShots and I also am part of a photography group based in Vancouver that is a 11 to 20 kids group. The Idea is whoever takes the best photo wins a large or substantial amount of prize money, ranging from 50 to 100 dollars Canadian. I have won about 3 of these contests, and won a total of 170 dollars from taking good pictures and photos. I plan on saving this money for a better lens FYI. In conclusion Social Media is a great platform to learn and share, without question, but it can also be a corner for bullies and people that intend to hurt others. Stay safe online and offline. Think before you click.

Social media has become a big part of people's lives, not just kids, and I have spent a good amount of time on it myself. Social media can be a great place to keep in touch with others and learn new things but it can also be a place of addiction and unhappiness. Having social media is very much a good thing because you can stay connected to those close to you but we need to learn self control and become educated about our digital footprint.

Your doing homework and your halfway done but then you decide to give yourself a ten minute break, so you go on instagram and your watching a video then another then another then your alarm goes off and you say to yourself I’ll just finish the video so you do then in 3 seconds another one pops up so you watch it too this happens till it’s time for dinner and you haven’t even touched your homework. You might be thinking “well I would never do that I’m responsible” well this is a common occurrence in the kids of today so there’s a high percent chance that this has or will happen to you.

Today for PAR we watched a video about staying connected to social media and what I got from this video was addictive. It seemed like most of the kids got distracted by social media and couldn’t stop. I’m going to show you all my points of views on social media. The thing about social media is that it’s easy to stay on it when they were designing instagram they made it so that right after a video another one would pop up do it would be harder to leave you feel like you have to watch it like it’s your obligation not to do homework but to watch random video. It’s like ads people who make ads make it so that always somehow you end up on a screen where you can get it and they make it so that the x is so small your finger can barely touch it sometimes they even hide it, that’s what social media’s like you are stuck on it and it’s so hard to leave. You also can feel pressure to be connected is you have your device confiscated or lose it or any situation where you can’t go on to social media people will star talking about trends or memes and you have no idea what they are talking about and your friends might hangout with someone else to relate with them if there not good friends you’ll feel lonely and sad because you are left out. A personal connection is that before I had a phone or access to social media I felt kind of left out of things when I saw things classmates were talking about I was confused and didn’t know what was going on. Another point of view is that in social media it's that social media can help you in a dark time to see something funny or an animal video or even just a short comic it helps to see something cheerful. It is a platform as they said in the video you can display whatever you feel proud of or something you made and get feedback on how to improve. Also you can sell stuff that you made on an account that is popular and I see many accounts who do that and end up wildly successful.

In conclusion I think that social media has good sides of it but you have to be carefull.

There are lots of cons and pros about social media, and a pro is being able to talk someone whenever you want and you could also play games and personally I'm really addicted to my phone and I'm online way too much. Now a con about social media is that some people would procrastinate and not do their homework, like me since I procrastinate til night and do it and that's kind of what I'm doing since I'm doing my par at 10;00. Another bad habit is that occasionally I'll just be like oh okay I've worked hard now it's time for a break short break but whenever I have a break it will always go longer than I intend the break to be. I have these longer breaks since I usually watch a video but then I see a recommended video that seems cool or in my interest, so I watch it and it goes in a loop until I finally decide to stop watching videos and do my homework. I really wished that I could be less addicted to my phone since these habits happen occasionally and I want to quit these habits.

In conclusion, social media has it's pros and cons but the cons will affect us a lot because it's addicting but social media is still a great thing to have.

Social media is a place to talk, chill, and of course, socialize. But, there are also negative stuff about it. Sometimes if your friend left the chat, u feel alone, which is pretty normal. Sometimes when you friends are here, you are pretty chatty and you want to talk more and more and more. However, the downsides are you can't see their facial expressions, so you don't know how they feel. Sometimes, if you even got kicked out of a group chat, you will feel excluded. Social media is helpful, but don't be online too long. But always, talking to your friends face to face is the best idea. :)

i think the big idea is that people fear missing out and not being included on social media because that is where all the people are talking these days. Because of that they feel pressure to stay connected online and always be active so that they don't miss out. I don't really connect to this because i don't really care if i miss out, but i stay online a lot because i don't want to miss out on the latest hockey news or updates. a pro is that you can talk to your friends, a con is that it becomes addicting and you can't stop.

Social media is a huge part of my life. At the moment I am on my phone checking my Instagram while doing the par. Starting from the age of 11, I don't think I ever left the house without my phone. You would always see me holding my phone or having it in my bag.
I think that the big idea of this video is that people feel pressured to have social media because everyone else is on it and they all talk on it. Without social media, you'll be kind of outcasted because so much happens online whether It's on a group chat, text, story, or post. so much more happens online than at school. a pro of social media is that it keeps everyone connected and it's easy to contact people. The con of social media is that without it, you'll feel almost empty. A connection I have to this video is how when I dropped my phone down a drain two years ago, I didn't have a phone for almost a month. Throughout this month I didn't have the comfort of always having a source of communication on me. At home, I would have my iPad but while I was out, I felt insecure.
In conclusion, i think that social media can be addicting and can turn into an obsession but it can also be used for good purposes.

I think the big idea for the video, is that sometimes people just want to be watched on and know everything that is happening at their school or basically anything. Social media can be a great place to know whats happening, because people might be posting all sorts of things and texting in group chats. If they do not know what is happening, the feel left out and fallen behind. A pro is that you can chat with your friends and ask them to come outside and play, but a con is that some people are always on there device and does not know whats actually happening in the real world.

Phones are important. A smartphone is essentially one of the main parts of most people`s EDCs. It's up there with keys wallets and pocket knives. A side effect of this is is the fact that people are on their phones more often. What does this mean though? This means that there's more people on social media talking to each other. And this means that people are feeling like they should also being on social media as they might miss out on something. For example lets say a important celebrity was assassinated in a drive by crossbowing at 8:25am on a sunday and you not being a boomer don't watch news or read newspapers. So you go to school. everyone in class is just talking about his/her death and you are sad because they died and because you can`t talk about it. This is what i think the big idea is. The fear of missing out is real and can be useful in some ways but it isnt in many ways.
in conclusion the fear of missing out may help people stay up to date but it also has disadvantages such as being pressured to be on your phone more often

Today I watched video on the pressure to stay connected, and I’ll share with you what I thought the big idea was. I think the big idea of this video is that people get hooked and feel the urge to keep checking their phones to keep up with their notifications and instagram feed or whatever they use so they won’t feel left out. However, I really don’t have to worry about that because I don’t really care about what’s going on anyways. In other words, this is not needed. You miss something, so what? Just check it some other day or ask your friends.
