The wonderful Mr. Collins!

Today, Mr. Collins took the Grade 6 students to the Planetarium and Mr. Hong stayed with the Grade 7 students. The Grade 7s started the day off with our S.O.A.R. assembly and Fitness Friday! We are so lucky to have Ms. Capit at our school. She is a professional hip hop dancer and we have learned so much from her. After recess, we engaged in our book clubs and worked on our Social Studies Inquiry Projects. In the afternoon, we had a lesson on composition, reviewed some criteria for well composed photos and continued our lesson on rule of 1/3's and perspective/leading lines. Students uploaded their practice images to a Google Slideshow for more ongoing feedback and to document their work.

IMPORTANT:

FIELD TRIP ON MONDAY:
- All students should be at the school, ready by 8:00am
- Lunch will be provided by subway and compass cards will be provided for bus fare.
- Dress in athletic wear as we will be playing soccer against many other elementary schools at B.C. Place for the entire day. Division 1 and 2 will split up into 7 or 8 teams.
- If you haven't brought in your forms, you will not be able to participate if you don't return it on Monday morning. (Dennis, Logan, Kevin, and Daniel)

The past week has been a busy week full of learning. With field trips to Granville Island and outdoor science classes for the grade 7s, I learned a lot. One thing that I learned is that we will be having a pizza party soon. A reason why this is something you should all agree with me that this is something worth learning is because, who doesn’t want to have a pizza party?

Another thing I learned about is the difference between crystalline and amorphous solids is that crystalline solids have a definite structure and amorphous solids have no strict structure.

So this week, Monday was a holiday, Tuesday was normal, Wednesday was student-teacher exchange day, and Thursday and Friday was field trips. And then one the following Monday we have another field trip. The question is: what did I learn? Well, I know it means what facts I learned, but really, I didn't learn anything. it was a busy week. Maybe I did learn something, however I don't think it counts. I learned that teachers can have messy schedules for students. Like they put three field trips in a row. That's kind of insane if you ask me, but like after this, were not going to have any field trips for the rest of the year.

Thank you for the feedback RZ! But don't you think these field trips taught you anything? The whole reason that we set up field trips is so that you can all learn something outside of the school! What we did this week was give you a whole bunch of time to learn out in the world. So what did you learn on these field trips?
Look at some of your peers' responses and see if you learned some similar things as them.

STOP USING ARTIFICIAL LIGHTS!!!!! thousands and thousands of birds die because of the lamp post at street corners in the middle of the nigh. The light blinds them so the cant see properly. This does not just affect birds but a lot of other animals like moths, fire flies, nocturnal animals, animals that life near cities. Also artificial lights dont just hurt animals but us HUMANS ARE EFFECTED by this. During night time if you are near a lot of artificial lights such as, the room you sleep in is lit with lights ( not including the moon) or being on devices before bed or in bed etc. That's causes the melatonin to decrease. For people who dont know what melatonin is, it is the natural chemical your body produces that puts you to sleep every nigh. These are some of things that reduce melatonin, devices within 30 mins of when you go to bed, devices in bed at night, lights on when you are about to sleep or are in bed. I learned this at the space station yesterday. Hope these facts helped you

This week was bursting with excitement. We had gone to Granville Island on Thursday to go see a play, then we were given free time to have fun. On Friday, the grade sixes had gone to the space center, as part of their science unit. On Monday, we will be visiting B.C place to play football against many different schools. This week was quite enjoyable for me, as it was a departure from our usual days of math and such. Even though Friday was a normal day for us grade 7s, I enjoyed the things we had done that day, and we even got to stay outside for the last remaining hour. It was fun learning new subjects that were explained and taught in an enjoyable way.

The best thing I learned this week is not from the field trip, but our time alone on Friday. During photography, Mr. Hong had taught us how to compose photos using the rule of thirds, and a new technique, known as leading lines. We were given an hour to take our own photos of stationary in the class, and I had taken a photo of some chips, and my water bottle. I had a surprisingly good time, because I was allowed to be creative with the angles of my object, and what my object was.

I really enjoy freedom, if I am given a big project, I want as much freedom as possible, to be able to customize it to my liking. There have been times where we have been given assignments that rely on creativity, but the restrictions made the end result much less enjoyable as I had originally wished for. Freedom is important when given projects of choice, if there are too many restrictions, it feels as though it is simply a linear assignment.

These fast few days have been pure bliss for me, the subjects we were learning were enjoyable, and I got to go on a nice field trip. I look forward to Monday, where we will be going to B.C place.

During the past week, our class has been learning and getting involved a lot, whether if it's the field trip to Grandville Island or having an outside class for science with Mr. Hong, we are always learning and expanding our background knowledge. I think during this week, I learned most when we do science classes. This is due to the foreignness of the classes; I've never learned about chemistry. This week I learned about the Particle Theory of Matter. They include 6 rules and that all matters are made of particles, even us. The most interesting thing I learned was the difference in the structure of a crystalline solid and amorphous solids. Crystalline solids have a complex and structured pattern, whereas amorphous solids' builds are randomized.

In conclusion, this week was fruitful and fun!

In this week, I learned a lot of new things that surprised me. In the book, the boy who harnessed the wind, I didn't know it was real, and how William actually made the windmill using scrap parts. I learned that you can make something spin and make electricity by using a dynamo, like in windmills, and in water wheels. At the space station, I learned that moon rock is very hard because the one there was so heavy. I can't even lift it up with one hand. And it was only the size of your two hands together. I think it is heavy because if your on the moon, there will be less gravity so when you pick this up, it will be like a normal rock. But since gravity here is stronger, it will pull down the object more.

Books are a great way to learn new things, but I'm surprised that you were able to learn so much about science from a story. That's pretty cool!
What do you think it was about the space rock that made it so heavy? Do you think it was made from different stuff, or do you think there's something special about space that made it heavier?

I think it is heavy because the gravity is weaker there, so it would be lifted like a normal rock on the moon

This week is a quite busy week. We don’t have school on Monday and have a field trip on Thursday. The grade 6’s were way luckier, they had two field trips. So basically, they are just on schools on Tuesday and Wednesday. Whether we are grade 6's or not, we were still getting involved in a lot of activities and projects these days, especially this week. We learned a lot about science, art. Moreover, we were taught about more photographing skills and the rule of thirds. We are always expanding and increasing our knowledge through this week and every single day at school. Furthermore, on Monday, we are going to be involved in a B.C. soccer match with other different Elementary schools. I guess no one will not be excited about that.

The best thing I loved or I feel comfortable for learning will definitely be field trips. Imagine, you could walk with your friends and partners, play within learning in the sunny shiny day. Everyone likes field trips, mostly I think. And the most reason I like field trips is because there’re plenty of surprises through the journey, and it’s the exact opposite against school days at school. We have plans every day, we got schedules and stuff we already know. However, field trips are totally different. Remember when I have received the field trip form of the waterfront theatre. We never know what are we going to see in the journey, we don’t know the way of our learning and the path beside the journey. Although we have already know what we are going to watch and play. There’re still infinite surprises could be hidden in the journey.

Who will know that we are going to do window shopping in downtown? Who knows we are going to be walking around in the market on Granville Island? I guess no one will think of to play at the mini water park. The reason I said that is because no one will know what will happen next in our journey. Field trips may seem boring, so what? A lot of stuff that we will never think of which always appears in front of us. Full of surprises hidden in our journey of learning and this is also the reason learning never stops!

Is it possible that there are other species of intelligent life somewhere out there? Yes!

At the H.R. MacMillan Space Centre I learned that there are multiple universes. So I’m wondering if there could be a duplicate of Earth somewhere within the multiverse. Maybe that Earth also has humans, humans that are more advanced than us! I learned in class that some planets have extreme and unliveable environments, but just like the creatures that live in the deep sea, can’t they adapt to live on their planet? For example, if the planet is really cold can’t wouldn’t the creature just have really thick fur on its body to keep it warm?

I think that this is really interesting because there are so many possibilities! There is so much more to learn about the galaxy! When the Sun explodes do you think that in some universe there is still a Sun? I just think that there are so many things to learn about the night sky, it would be pretty cool to know what’s going on out there don’t you think?

During this week, we learned a lot of things, and go through a lot of activities, they are all very fun, and they help me in my real life. If I have to choose one activity that I had the most interested in during this week, it must be the art lesson or the field trip that we had.

The art lesson that we learn this week is very different from the other art lesson I'd ever learned, because this one taught me how to be a good photographer, (how to take photo). During the art lesson, I leanred Rules of third. Rules of thirds is an important skills that can keep your photo even, and more beautiful.

We also had a wonderful field trip in a big sunny day. We went to Grandville Island, and watched the theatre, the senior art school's performances is well done. We also went to the market, I didn't learn anything in Grandville market, but I did buy some food. :)

After this week, I learned a lot of things and had a lot of fun.

During the week, we went on several field trips, and we learned about different things and activities. There was one place we went that really got me thinking; The MacMillan Space Centre!

It was the part where there was a show and a hostess talked about space. I was deeply interested in the things that were said during the presentation. Like the history of space discovery and all that. With the alien life talks and how there was a chance that there could be life wat out there in the void, questions flooded me the whole time. What was really cool was the multiverse theory. I knew about this theory long ago but never put much thought into it, until they talked more and more about. Which got me thinking, if there truly is a another universe somewhere, how will we get there? Will it be possible? And most importantly, will it be similar to our current universe or different?

With all the possibilities, who knows? Maybe someone will actually find the answers the all the questions. That'd be really cool!

Something that interests me is Art. Art has some meaning to it, like when you even draw something simple, it comes from your heart and mind. A cat drawing for example, maybe you are just living a simple life like a cat. Or another picture that shows you're listening to music, you might like to be in your own space an hum to tunes. In conclusion, drawings might have lots of meaning and show different ideas and what your personality might be.

This week has been full of fun and learning, with field trips, socials, chemistry, and many more things. Our knowledge has been expanded this week, and one of the more interesting things that we have been doing this week is photography, in our art unit.

We have started this unit with just a couple of techniques that can be used to better our picture-taking skills. To begin, we have learned about the rule of thirds, where there are three lines creating a grid in the middle of your screen. One way to use this grid is to line up your object with one of the vertical or horizontal lines. Another way is to center it in one of the four points where the lines intersect. This is very interesting because it seems to "balance" out the picture so it's more relaxing to look at. Even though the rule of thirds is a good method to develop amazing pictures, you could also break this rule to create striking pictures. We also learned to use perspective to make photos centered on a specific object by focusing on it. We could also bring that object closer to the screen so it seems more like the main object. Lastly, we learned to block out as much of the background as possible so the viewer doesn't have anything distracting to look at in the photo.

In conclusion, there are many things to be learned everyday. I think that this week the most interesting was photography but there is always more to learn.

Learning isn’t all about memorizing words and completing worksheets. Sometimes, it can be surprisingly fun. Experiencing and trying something physically is a better way to learn. This week, I learnt many things, while still having fun along the way. I had a holiday, a field trip, and a lot of outdoors time.

I had a holiday on Monday, so I enjoyed my time off with my family. We went out for shopping and had lots of fun. I had to admit that it was way better than playing videogames in my room. This connects to my Novel Approach book, “Follow the Elephant”. In the story, Ben, the main character, starts off being obsessed with videogames and his PlayStation. He discovers that there are much more in the outer world than his games by going on a trip to India with his grandmother. He experiences and sees new things that he would never have with videogames. He builds on his relationship with his grandmother and learns many things from being responsible to understanding the culture of Hinduism.

On Thursday, Division 2 was lucky to be able to go watch “Animal Farm” at the Waterfront Theatre. The play presented a meaningful message about leadership, power, and corruption. I learnt from watching this play that power can easily lead to corruption and change someone’s personality and intentions completely.

On Friday, the grade 7’s stayed at school and continued to learn about new photography skills. Personally, I enjoyed it a lot because I got to use my own creativity in this assignment. I had to choose a good subject, a good background, and a good angle to take the picture from. I can really tell the difference in my pictures after learning about the Rule of Thirds and leading lines.

In conclusion, these are the main things I learnt this week. I hope that tomorrow we’ll have even more fun playing soccer at the BC Place.

Why are women not famous in astronomy? And mens are. That is very fair! Also why are animals threatened in the past during the Russian Revolution?

This week is very easy and quick. On Thursday, we went to went to Granville Island. On Friday, the grade 6s went to H.R MacMillan Space Centre. On Monday, we are going B.C place to play soccer. The thing that at the planetarium. because I learned lot of facts about space. The coolest thing I learned animal farm is a true story but it has a sad ending.

In conclusion, I learned lot this week and I am excited to going on another field trip.

It has been an agitating week, with lots of surprises and lots of learning going on. We had some outdoor educations on Thursday and Friday. No doubt, I enjoyed it so much and now I’m going to share some of the knowledge I gained during this busy week.

The most stirring things I learned this week would be the field trip we went on Thursday and another dramatic Friday we had. As mentioned, on Thursday we went on a field trip to Granville Island to watch Animal Farm being performed by the teenagers at the Waterfront Theatre. It was being well performed, each fragment was very dramatic. It keeps on affecting me, making guesses about what’s gonna happen next. I learned that we should treat animals fairly and equally. Therefore, they have feelings and thoughts going on and on as we do.

In addition, on Friday I discovered lots of useful skills in photographing. Such as perspectives photography and the rules of third placement. One thing I liked about this lesson is that we get to choose how are we’re going to demonstrate our photos. Furthermore, we’ll combine our creativity and critical thinking while picturing the shots. From now on, the skills I learned this Friday would always remind and improve when I’m taking a photo.

What an nice and good week I have. So, this week, Monday was a holiday, Tuesday has nothing special. Wednesday Mr.Collin was not here instande there is an another student-teacher which I figure out later it is a student-teacher exchange day, and Thursday we have a field trip to Granville Island and Friday a day without grade six since they have a field trip. So the PAR is what I learn from this week? Well, I finally unstander what animal farm this book/ show is about. At first when I read the book I have no idea what is it about, then after the show I finally kind of know what it is about.

Do you enjoy having many activities in one week?

First things first art! In art with started photography. We already did our Mother’s Day cards which involved photography, but now we’re started to learn more about rules of thirds. We started focusing on one object and using a grid to help us match everything up together. I’m hoping to do more photography this week! Next came French. In French we’ve been learning about the different types of pizzas and how to make them. We’ve even came up with so many ideas to throw a pizza party! I enjoy French and I hope we could actually throw a pizza party one day! I’m science we’re learning about chemistry. We’ve learned about the different particles such as Gas, Liquid, and solid. We’ve been comparing all of them, and seeing what happens when we add hot or coldness to them. I hope to do more experiments with this! Our class is also working on N.A. Everyone has to finish their PR by this Friday! Hopefully everyone can get N.A done in time! Last but not least, our field trip! Our week has already been packed, but it got even more packed with more field trips! On Thursday we went to granville island to watch a performance called “animal farm.” I enjoyed the play because it shows that not everyone gets treated fairly, and in general life isn’t fair. After we watched the play, we had some time to get some food and drinks. It’s was very nice to go to granville island because it was a beautiful day, and everyone was happy. On Friday the grade six’s had their own field trip. That meant all the grade 7s had to stay at school which was fine.

Last week was busy! But this week will be just as busy! We have a field trip today, and a lot of things due. Don’t stress too much Div 2!

On Friday, grade 6s from div.2 and 3 went to The MacMillan Space Centre! Also known as the Vancouver space centre to get a feel and understand what and how Astronomy works.

To me science is the only subject I lack expertise in, and for once I think science is quite interesting and ever since I was a little boy and I heard that we discovered possible water on Mars, deep below. And at that time I was really a person who really cared about the Earths environment. And I am really excited to learn more about space and how a solar system works.

And on that day I finally understood what a black hole consisted of, and I realized a black hole is actually a region of space having a gravitational field so intense that no matter or radiation can escape. And other than that the way different people looked at the star constellations, is so interesting.
