WEDNESDAY: WONDER by R.J. PALACIO

FIRST NATIONS INSPIRED ART

Today, students were dismissed early in order for parents to meet with their teachers. I met with some parents today and will meet with more tomorrow to discuss your education with them.

Also, we started reading from 'WONDER' today. It is a novel written by R.J. Palacio and is an excellent novel about a boy who faces adversity. I'm looking forward to reading it what all of you over the next month.

Of course, if you have had your 1 on 1 conference with me, you should edit/revise your research according to the feedback you received. If you haven't met with me yet, be sure to follow your criteria sheet closely.
Your infographic is due on Friday. Digital form is acceptable.

I think that the book Wonder will be about a boy who's face is abnormal. Then, on his first day at public school I think he will get bullied and won't have any friends. I also think that people will judge him for his appearence rather than his personality. I don't have a deep connection but I do have a connection. I remember my first day of Grade 5.

I think it is going to be about a kid who is really ordinary. And he thinks that people outside will judge him because the way he looks. So he doesn't feel confident in him self. He will also have a few friends that would never judge him and look out for him. I also think he would always be happy no matter what. He could also be one of the wierd kids around where he lives thats why he would always stay inside becasue he would think no one would like him. But I don't think he knows that he can be the popular kid around his area or not. So that is my prediction for " WONDER "

I think this story is going to be about a boy who is really ordinary and he probably thinks that people in the real world wouldn't like him from the way he looks. So what I mean is that he doesn't feel confident for him self he thinks he is lonley with no one. But he would have a few friends that will care about him and watch his back. He probably thinks that he is a wierd kid and he is not like others so he thinks people are going to judge his personality. But that's what he probably thinks he could be the popular kid around his area or not. He might think that people will bully him and he would never want to step out of his door. Thats my prediction for " WONDER "

CONNECTION:
When I was younger I used to think no one would like me at school because the way I am. I used to think the negative about me. But I made a friend that would actually respect me and treat me like a friend he made my life happy. But I still thought to my self that I wouldn't make other friends. So I started becoming wierd and tryed to make more friends. Then my friend moved away the next year and I had to make another friend or I will be the lonley kid. But thats what I thought. I started making more friends every year. Thats my connection for this story. It was mostly about making friends.

I think it would help to put the name of the book in the beginning so it is clearer to the reader what you are talking about before they reach the end.

I think That it is about a boy who has a facial disorder and dose not go to school and he is home schooled and he had about 20 surgery's and he is only in grade 5 and he has three best friends and he dose not go to school because he might be bulled or be looked at funny by other people. I can connect with this by being bulled and being looked at funny while wearing a eye patch when I hurt my eye

I think is about a boy that is really nice but since he has a face that people don't think is normal he will be made fun when really,e he is the same as everyone else and he didn't want that to happen to him. in my life I haven't had many connections with this but behind the school at save on foods there is a worker and he has the same thing where his face has been through many surgeries so he can only has one eye. but on the inside he is a really nice guy and whenever I see him I say hi.

Maybe that is why it only shows one eye on the cover of the book. You missed some capitals and in your connection one part doesn't make sense. Also you put an e after really for some reason.

I think it will be about bullying and August will have trouble making friends. People will WONDER why his face looks like that and might always stare at him. Also from the cover showing an eye I think the his eye is the only thing normal. My connection from what we read today isn't deep but I sometimes catch people staring at me or they catch me staring at them I quickly look somewhere else but if I catch someone staring at me and they keep staring at me it gets really awkward.

I think it will be about how the kid will get bullied but later he meets really nice friends that will help him stand up for himself and tell bully's bullying is not nice and you can hurt someone from it.
My connection is when I join this school kids used to tease me of my weight and I told that's not nice and I said look who's talking they used to say things like your a fatty ect.

He can wonder about how life will be in a public school, how they act, etc so he wonders about thats stuff. I also think the boy August is exploring new things such as going to a new school. Since in the biggening he is saying how people look at him weird I think he is different than every thing else.

I also think since he had lots of surgery he probaly has lots of scars and so people think he is ugly (not saying he is). However the thing August is NOT wondering about is every one is different and unique in different ways.. He doesn't know that and he doesn't even wonder about it.

In conclusion, I think August is wondering about the WRONG stuff and thats how he's turning to be weird.

A connection I have is I really enjoy learning new things on my own time at home on Google and doing stuff on computers (as you may know) and when everybody is playing video games, having fun, etc and I am at home learning new things I do not feel ordaniry because I am doing what other people are not doing. From what I predict, I predict that this story will be about that mysterious character explaining his/her life of how rough it was, maybe smooth, or something else. And what everyone thinks about that person and what that character thinks about itself. I also predict that at some point of the story the character's life will get rougher and rougher, as we go more deeper in the book.

While we were reading the book, I was too busy visualizing about what the story would be about and didn't make any connections of some sort but one not-very-meaningful connection. And that was when I thought I wasn't an ordinary person at my preschool when I used to live in England. And my parents would say so that I am an ordinary person.

Firstly, I think this book is about a boy named August who was born with a facial difference that had to have 27 surgeries when he was born. I also, think he will be prevented from going to school because, he is different from the other students, and he probably thinks no one likes him. Lastly, I think this book is about a boy who is afraid to go to school because, the classmates would probably laugh at him.

Overall, I remember, when I first came into a grade 5 class, I had a black eye from falling off my bike the last day. I thought people would laugh at me, but it turns out they didn't. I also, remember when one of my friends started hanging out with other people, and to be honest I was really sad just because, my friend played with other people but me. And now, I have many friends just because I am a great athlete, and a good soccer player.

My perdition is that a boy will tell us about how others treat him because of his face and why he needed to have 27 surgeries, that's right 27. Maybe he will tell the bad the good things about going to 5th grade at Beaver creek elementary. In the first part he said that people would look at him like was a different person. He said it was about his face, and on the cover it has animated face, one eye, hair and nothing else so maybe his eye looks weird or he has no eye at all or something close to that.

He always had a sense of humor for me and my friends and then one day moved away across the world to a new home. I always wonder what he does now and then and hope he is doing great. One of my connections is, I care a little too much about looks and I try to fit in too sometime, and sometimes I think I'm ugly too mostly because my sister told me that, but I never let those things get to me. You know what they say "beauty is only skin deep"

My connection is that in grade 4 some of my friends did not hang out with me for a while so then I kind of felt sad so I decided to make new friends to play with.

I have already read Wonder, so I don't want to give anything away. However, I think that it is a very good book and it teaches many lessons about not letting your weaknesses or disabilities hold you back. My connection to what we read is going to high school. I am still deciding which high school I am going to, and which ever one I go to, it will be a new start for me. It will be a lot different from elementary school and I am a little bit nervous. The reason this is my connection is because August is going to Beecher Prep and it is a new beginning for him while I am going to high school and it is a new beginning for me.

I think he might try going to school for the first time and he wonders about what it would be like if he had a proper face. He is probably made fun of by other people because of his face and wonders why is my face like this

I think in "Wonder" the boy is going to be teased by bullies and only one or two people will not teas him and stand up for him. Then he is going to do something so every one respects him. One time I went to a brand new school and I didn't know any one there so I needed to find new friend

I believe that the book "wonder" will be about one kid who doesn't fit in trying to make friends. I believe that there will be an obstacle in the book because most authors have one to keep the book interesting. I think that the kid will be trying to fit in because he said in the first chapter that he looks strange but feels normal inside like everyone else, then in the second chapter he said people stare at him and sometimes kids run away at playgrounds. I believe he will make a friend with a student a teacher or both that will help him through this. I think that because without it the book would be less interesting and authors of fiction books want it to be interesting so people enjoy that and buy them.

Those are my thoughts on the book "wonder"

I think Wonder is about a kid with a facel deformity. The kid is going to try to fit in with the other kids. There will probably be ups and downs in this book where he/she makes friends and when he/she is bullied.
My connection is that I use to change schools a lot. It was always hard to make new friends and kids were mean. I hated changes schools I didn't like leaving old friends behind. It was sad because when you are little you don't really have a phone to text or to call school is the only time you see your kids. Also I had a hair pulling problem I would uncontrollably pull my hair out. So I had a good sized bald spot. That made it really hard to make friends. Every one would tease and point. That's my connection.

Wonder? Wonder? Are you wondering what I think the book wonder is going to be about? Well if you are keep reading because I'm going to tell you! Firstly, I think its going to be about a boy that has a bad experience when he enters grade 5. Secondly, I think he's going to going to get bullied and want to get home schooled again until he meets a boy or girl that changes his life. This is my prediction! What's yours?

My connection is that he is homeschooled and I have always wanted to be homeschooled basically at the start of the year. This came up to me when we were reading the book because he is homeschooled.

I though that this book is about a boy who is really nice, kind, and funny but because of his face deformity kids make fun of him and never see how nice he is. So this kid takes it for about 3 years when something snaps inside of his brain and makes him go crazy. He has a mission from the "little people" (he calls them) inside his head to kill everyone who has ever made fun of him. After his mission is done he kills himself so the police can never find him.

But then I thought "we would never read this kind of story in school so I revised.

I think it is about a boy with a face deformity. I also think that when ever he goes to school almost everyone makes fun of him. After a while of all the teasing and making fun of him and he decides that there is only one way to stop all of this and it is to end it where it all began... Him.

I didnt really have a DEEP connection but in the book the dude says people do this weird look at him then look away think and I have had that happen to me because I sat in a wheelchair while my mom was pushing me around. There was nothing wrong with me I just thought it would be fun and so many people looked at me and smile while others looked at me, then when I looked at the, looked away.

@ Fish Sticks - Thank you for putting more effort into your work. Please try to post you work the day the assignment is posted. If you post in the morning, you miss out on learning opportunities. Also, the other students don't really get to learn from your responses because the majority of them post the night before. Keep this in mind going forward. We have had this discussion on numerous occasions.
