We will have daily check-ins at 10 am unless otherwise stated. Always meet in the 'MORNING CHECK-IN' channel in Teams. I will be available on school days from 9am - 12pm and 1 - 3pm to support your learning. If you need have any questions, please feel free to send me a message on Teams directly or within one of the related channels (Math, Science, etc).

IMPORTANT:

All students who have not kept up the work will receive a call from me today or tomorrow.
Wednesday morning check-in will be on TEAMS at 10:15 am. You can enter the channel now and check-in by giving the attendance comment/pic a thumbs up and by reply directly to it by saying 'GOOD MORNING'. This will be part of our daily routine.

1.) WORD WORK:
LEARNING INTENTION: I can collaborate with my 'FEEDBACK GROUP' in my WORD WORK
  GROUP channel!
SUCCESS CRITERIA:
1.) There are 3 WORD WORK GROUP channels. Enter your group. Your name will be within
each of these groups. Find yours and collaborate in it.
1.) Each group member must ask at least 2 questions to members of the group.
2.) Each member must give at least 1 helpful and supportive piece of feedback to a person or the
entire group.
3.) Support each of your group members with positive emojis when they give you descriptive
  feedback.
4.) Feedback should be polite, respectful, and you must use your skills of digital citizenship.

2.) MATH:

Complete this Khan Academy Lesson.
Watch all videos and complete practice questions you feel you need. Each student will complete as many as they need depending on your current background knowledge.
Complete Assignment #2: Interactions Pg. 92 #1-8.

3.) SCIENCE:

Continue working on your lab write-ups.
Ask questions on the 'SCIENCE' channel if you are unsure of anything.

4.) READING:

30 minutes and log it on your calendar

5.) PE:

In Japan, many companies and schools get warmed up by doing a group warm-up together. Watch both videos to get an idea of how to do it. | Japanese Taiso Work Out 1 | Japanese Tasio Work Out 2 |
We will discuss this in this morning's meeting.
Complete PE With Joe or 30 minutes of any other physical activity.
Post evidence of your learning on FreshGrade for 'PE - WEEKLY ACTIVITIES'. (A video of you doing your Japanese Warm-up)
CHALLENGE: Make a creative video that includes you and some of your friends. For example, it can be you both doing it side by side or one that has multiple students and goes from one student to the next.

6.) LA:

Many of you have cc-ed me on the emails you have sent out to healthcare workers.
Some of you still need to make your edits/revisions based on the feedback on your Google Docs and the general feedback posted on the class website.
Tomorrow, you will be given information on who to send these to next. The nurses and doctors from Fraser health are looking forward to reading them.

6.) POST RESPONSE:

The Learning Never Stops

The 'LEARNING' truly never stops! The large majority of you have been very active in your learning over the last week. In order to be successful, you must embrace the BIG 6 learning principles even more that ever have! Remote learning requires a great deal of motivation and hard work! Most of all, you will need to:

1.) 'READ' everything posted on a daily basis. Don't just skim and scan.
2.) Pay attention to learning intentions and follow success criteria.
3.) Engage in the self/peer/teacher feedback loop! (Respond to feedback to improve your work)
4.) Share your work with others and submit it to be assessed regularly.

IMPORTANT INFO:

Microsoft Teams Meeting today from 10:00am - 10:45am. I expect everyone to be present. Check your District Outlook email for details and invite.
Today, I want to see if you can follow instructions and navigate yourself around the various platforms that we have been using this year.
To be successful today, you will need to read carefully and follow instructions/criteria.
Do your best. If you have any questions whatsoever, be sure to post them here.

Today, we will have our first Monday Morning 'CHECK-IN'. We will meet from 10:00 am - 10:30 on Office 365 - Teams. If you need help logging on, be sure to check the announcements on FreshGrade or the email sent to you and your parents last night. If you encounter problems logging on, please email Mr. Hong right away. Over the next few weeks, you will become more familiar with the Office 365 District platform.

Word Work test will be tomorrow on Office 365 - Teams at 10:00am sharp! Don't be late, or you will miss it! I will send everyone an invite to the meeting/pretest.

4.) POST A RESPONSE:

Remote learning requires hard work, focus, and time management.
In paragraph form, please write about 4-5 points that you feel are expected of you during your this time.
Think of this as a 'C-CHART' for EXPECTATIONS for REMOTE LEARNING.
LEARNING INTENTION: I can write a paragraph of the expectations my parents and I have for myself during remote learning.
SUCCESS CRITERIA:
1.) Paragraph format (intro, body w/ 4-5 supporting points/examples, and conclusion)
2.) 4-5 points are supported with examples, statistics, quotations, or other form of support.
3.) Intro/hook is engaging
4.) Conclusion sums up the main idea of the paragraph and leaves the reader wanting to learn more.
5.) Read a peer's paragraph from your table groups. Give them feedback on the above criteria and the givens (grammar, capitals, punctuation, spelling, and sentence structure).
6.) Edit/revise based on feedback you receive. If you do not receive peer feedback within 2 hours, then complete a self-assessment, post it as a reply to your paragraph, and then edit/revise your work.

DAY 5 - SHAPE OF THE DAY

Gabe's #HeartsInWindows

Week 1 is almost over. You have been working diligently! By the sounds of it, you were all working hard yesterday completing your maps by collaborating with your peers! Collaborating with your peers will be integral in your learning over the next few months! This will also help keep you motivated to learn! Keep communicating with your peers to stay motivated to succeed! If you have any questions or need me to review anything, please send me an email.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

Expect a schedule and ACTION CRITERIA for expectations for remote learning by Monday Morning
Morning meetings/check-ins (virtual) will start on Monday morning (attendance)

1.) MATH: NO MATH TODAY

2.) LA:

Talk to your parents/family to see if they know anyone who is working on the front lines during this pandemic.
Try to get the contact details of this friend. If you don't know anyone, do some research online for one of the local hospitals, nurses union, your family doctor, etc.
After you have made edits/revisions to your letter, send it out to this person and wait for a reply.
Once you receive a reply, upload this on your FreshGrade activity where you uploaded your letter.
Post a proper learning reflection about this activity. Be sure to mention why this was important to do. Be sure to include who you are sending your letter to. Feel free to CC me on the email.

3.) ART:

Go to this link and read what the Getty Museum is asking of people in self-isolation.
This link shows you examples of some artwork that people around the world have created during their time in self-isolation.
LEARNING INTENTION: I can recreate a work of art with objects (and people) in my home.

SUCCESS CRITERIA:
1.) Choose your favourite artwork
2.) Use at least 3 items lying around your house to recreate your masterpiece. You may use more
  than 3.
3.) Recreate the artwork with those items to make it look just similar to the original
4.) You must go to the FRESHGRADE activity and post your images there.
5.) You must also comment on this FRESHGRADE activity giving the information about the original
  piece of art (title and artist).
6.) In your comment on FRESHGRADE, you must also explain how you went about recreating the
  piece of art.

4.) PE / FITNESS FRIDAY:
LEARNING INTENTION: I can maintain my personal health by staying active!

You need to stay active during this time!
Like you did a few days ago, take your resting heart rate and your active heart rate as soon as you stop your work out.
Post this on FreshGrade! There is a new activity!
We want to see your resting/active heart rate over time. Be sure to post it here whenever you have a PE lesson.) You may want to start tracking this by date on a Google Sheet or Doc. You will submit your data later on to be assessed.
Post a short video clip of yourself doing some of the 'PE WITH JOE's' exercises on FreshGrade too!.

Mr. Fisher and I fully expect all students to complete all assigned work to the best of your abilities.

SUCCESS CRITERIA:
1.) Read each post from this week CAREFULLY (Monitor Comprehension) Don't rush this!
2.) Any missed details must be completed.
For example, only 15 students have completed everything asked of you for the #HeartsInWindows activity. There are still 15 students who have to upload their images/video to the slideshow. Keep in mind, you were asked to take a picture/video of yourself making noise at 7pm in addition to pictures of your hearts on your window. Many of you have yet to upload this pic/video.
4.) Respond to all feedback you have received from your peers and teacher to improve your work (on the daily PAR, FreshGrade, and on your Google DOCS - everyone has received feedback on their letters and math). Make necessary edits/revisions.
5.) Post a message here stating you have read 'EVERYTHING' and if you are confident you have completed everything.
6.) I will assess your work for completion over the weekend. Parents will be sent updates of your work over the weekend.

Good morning!

I hope you are all doing well. I am currently updating the website. Keep refreshing the website to see if it has been updated. In the mean time, please do everything below.

IMPORTANT:

Make sure you have everything completed from this week for tomorrow!
Mr. Fisher and I will post expectations and a schedule for next week over the weekend!
If your parents haven't already done so, ask them to complete the learning survey that was sent out to them last night! This will help me plan your individualized learning plan!

LA - Reading/Writing

1.) LA:

Make sure you have posted your link to your letter of appreciation on your FreshGrade. Most of you have, but here are still a few of you who have not.
The instructions asked you to post on our class website and FreshGrade.
Look at the feedback all of you received on FreshGrade and make your edits/revisions.
Once you have completed this, I want you to post a reply to your link here and a comment on FreshGrade stating how you have improved your letter.

General Feedback:
1.) Add a brief introduction (first name only, age, grade, school name, teacher name, and why you are writing).
2.) Make sure you have looked at the example letters I posted so you know how to format your letter (mailing address, return address, and end greeting).
3.) A few of you need to add to your letters as you only did the bare minimum.

The Big 6 Learning Principles applies to how humans learn! When you are completing your learning activities at home, be sure to always think about:

1.) Learning Intentions
2.) Success Criteria
3.) Questions to push your learning forward
4.) Self/peer assessment
5.) Descriptive Feedback
6.) Ownership.

Today, your activities will revolve around these learning principles!

IMPORTANT: If your parents haven't already done so, please remind them to reply to the email that was sent out yesterday. The school needs to confirm their email addresses. Ask them to include your name in the email. (Kyungsun, Dennis, and Ethel.)

1.) PE / WORKOUT WEDNESDAY:

Record your resting heart rate. Click here if you have forgotten how to do this.

LEARNING INTENTION: I can monitor my comprehension by completing a self-assessment of my

- Based on the feedback I gave you on your MONDAY PAR, try a different type of hook and
conclusion. Also, don't forget about your transition words to improve the flow of your writing.
2.) Pay attention to the 6+1 Write Traits
3.) BODY: include 2-3 examples of how you completed your self-assessment of your
work on Monday and Tuesday. Include an example of something you saw you overlooked after
completing your self-assessment.
4.) CONCLUSION: Mention how you will make sure you do a self-assessment next time and why
this is important.
5.) Edit/revise your original based on a self-assessment of the 6+1 Write traits.
